What do you do when it’s 8 degrees outside? Sit by the “fire” and listen to your DX-150. Nice group of radio’s, picked up a DX-150 a few years ago, but it didn’t have the speaker, hooked up a substitute until I find an original. Stay warm!
@FarpointFarms15 күн бұрын
Ugh, nothing like 8 degrees and 8" of snow is coming, the fire sounds really good right about now.

Looks like you found some nice stuff! I'm looking forward to seeing that DX-150 in action! I saw lots of stuff there I thought about buying but I've got so many neglected projects already that I talked myself out of brining anything home. Even though I didn't buy anything, Shelby 2024 was one of the most memorable hamfests I have ever attended. Meeting up with you after all this time was the highlight of the whole trip for me, but as you said everyone I talked to was friendly and genuine and that made my day. Taking a solo road trip, camping, and playing radio along the way was something I had wanted to do for a long time and I'm really glad I finally was able to do it. The only bummer was not being able to meet up with my sister who lives near Shelby like I had originally planned as she had to go out of town at the last minute to help out her granddaughter that weekend.

Maybe we can do it again this year. Maybe you can take a few radios home this time. It was a great trip meeting up with you

The DX-150 was a cool radio back in the late 70s. I have a friend that had one as his novice receiver . He later owned a Radio Shack franchise for ten years. He picked up another DX-150 for nostalgia. he has a lot of RS product stories.
@FarpointFarms13 күн бұрын
Those Radio Shack franchise stories are always interesting! Maybe he'll let you share one of them sometime?

I owned the DX-394 in the late 90s. Due to Surgery I was unable to make it to Shelby this year. If I had that receiver would be on my desk 😁. Hope you got a good price on it. I've not been able to find one under $200 over the past couple of years. 73 KO4T

My experience with the RS DX-150B: Single conversion at 455KHz IF images of stronger stations will be evident. Use of a preselector ahead of the radio helps quite a bit. Sensitivity above 21 MHz is lower, but some stuff can be heard. After purchasing my 150B, I heard AM broadcast stations in the daytime I had never heard before which was a lot of fun. 73

Hello Erik; great video as always. I have owned and used a cobra 142 gtl and the JC penny ssb mobile rig. The jc penny ssb is actually a good radio with good receiver. Getting the ssb side aligned is always the problem with those. But once properly aligned and tuned it will and can be a great go to rig. Unfortunately it doesn't like automotive computer systems and will hear noises you never knew existed. Its best used as a base radio on a power supply. The colt mobile ssb is similar. Nice radio shack receivers, good to have. 73 GOD bless Earnest K5EWM 👍.
@FarpointFarms14 күн бұрын
IT sounds like you found out the hard way on that one.
@earnestmatlock969414 күн бұрын
@FarpointFarms the old jc penny ssb mobile was a basic design with very little noise reduction. Sensitivity was good just hard to deal with extra generated noise like ignition/alternator whine/any brush type dc motor within 5k yards/. But if it was quiet, it would out hear most other radios including the cobra 142 gtl which is no slouch on receiver. Of course you may be accused of "ghost talking" if you make contact with a really weak station. 73 GOD bless Earnest K5EWM 👍.

Hey erik, my dad was heavily into cb radios back in the day and I'd like to have his own make as a collectors item. I asked him the other day about his old radio and he thinks it's a kenwood cb radio. Is there a place I can go to nail down his same make and model? I think it would be cool to have.
