I don't know what it is about 2024 but it seems like we've come so far from the days of the pandemic and music has just been so consistently good this year. It reminds me of years in my childhood like 2014 or 2015. And I think we all saw that celebrated at the VMAs last night! Sabrina and Chappell winning their first VMAs ever after having SUCH a breakout year when they've been working hard for over a DECADE. Katy, although I'm not crazy about her new era, my childhood was relived seeing her video vanguard performance and her being honored after everything she's been through. I'm so proud of Megan for being the host + her having a great year as well, and being independent at that! Taylor Swift and Post Malone's moment. Taylor honoring 9/11 + urging fans to vote. Taylor and Megan FINALLY embracing each other after the many times they've shown love to each other. I could go on and on. This award show was just a testament to how great 2024 has been, music-wise.

Taylor Swift’s beautiful and classy tribute to 9/11 as well as urging people to vote was great as always. And agreed, I loved 2014 and 15 not necessarily bc of just the great music but the variety in stars. This year, we saw so many older voices get their respect and newer ones rise seemingly out of nowhere. Music was the emphasis of last night and I’m so excited for the Grammys even if they are gonna be a bloodbath, this was the reset year I think the 2020’s needed!

Speaking as someone who didn't watch it live, I think it was a good decision they gave more time to the performances than the awards. Most of us still bother to tune in to these shows BECAUSE of the performances, and it seems fitting to make the show a celebration of music given what a great year 2024 has been for pop (as opposed to stoking the flames of fan wars and all that).

With the VMA's I really don't pay much attention to the awards since 1 It's primarily based on fan vote and 2 The VMAs can literally choose who they want to win (Katy getting an attendance trophy over Gaga for most iconic performance). YESSSSS THE VMAS WERE SOO GODDAMN GOOD THIS YEAR!!! Literally the only reasons I thought about tuning in at all was because of my girls Sabrina and Chappell, and don't get me wrong, they absolutely ate, but there was so much other great stuff that happened as well! Megan was an absolutely amazing and funny host/performer, I'm so happy that Sabrina and Chappell got their first awards EVER (for Sabrina, it's post-Disney awards), all the other performers from Glorilla to LISA to Karol G to Katy Perry to even Benson Boone (even if I don't personally care for him at all) absolutely ATE DOWN, Tyla's iconic camera shot will go down in Meme History for Stan Twitter (Mark my words) and the show in general was just so much damn fun compared to other years! Also, Taylor using her speech to shine light on not only 9/11 but also to tell people to register to vote in this year's upcoming election is so BASED!

I loved the show this year but it had some ...problems. First, there were way too many ads. They outnumbered the awards and the performances. I loved the emphasis on the performances, which were all bangers, but missed out on seeing some of the major awards. I mean really, it's what I'm hearing the most complaints about and what I missed the most. Cutting the Artist of the Year, THE main award? What were they thinking? Need to look at who is producing this and making these decisions, cause that needs major attention. In all though, it WAS the best VMA's I've seen in years.

I really liked some of the performances this year but I thought the show itself was dragging and it was so weirdly paced? And I don’t get the point of fan voting and then not giving away the majority of these awards during the show like?? I kind of get why a lot of artists don’t attend anymore

The day of the show itself this year was pretty messy… choosing to put it on 9/11 was a weird stunt the more you think about it. I feel like had it been on 9/10 or 9/12 Taylor may have announced Rep TV or a few absentees would have come but I still do think performance-wise this was one of the best shows just bc the last few years were kinda meh

"Not Like Us" was definitely robbed though. Yes "Espresso" was a huge hit, but the impact "Not Like Us" has made is insane. To be honest I don't think we would have this huge wave of people's behavior getting exposed if that song was never released.

I ate up the performances and was really impressed with all of the backing dancers. They were wielding swords, were moving props, and alien kissing. Takes a lot of planning to put in a show like that.

First of all how did Fortnight win song of the summer😭😭. that was so random they just got bored and gave it to her. no one even hyped fortnight like they did with songs like please please please, espresso, or good luck babe. I think charli should’ve won something. also you should do a video on “If I Can’t Have Love I Want Power” I’m not a big fan of her earlier work but I love that album I feel like she channeled every ounce of halsey into that album. i feel like she has finally found her footing and she knows what she is where i feel like on hopeless fountain kingdom and BADLANDS she thought she was like lana del rey but better but now she knows what she is😭😭

the only thing i didnt like was fortnight getting song of the summer, otherwise it was perfect. Chappel i have no words for her she can do no wrong one of the best performances of the night, and she deserves everything. sabrina also deserved the award she got plus performing taste in front of shawn mendes and camila cabello was so funny to me. and as much as i dislike cxoxo camilla did perform the only 2 songs i like off it so cant complain. katy perry's performance almost made up for how bad womans world was, almost (fuck dr luke).
