Always a pleasure to see this Joe! Absolute madness again in this board, but it sounds so good. Might need to build myself another board later this year and pinch some of your ideas!

It's nice when you've just bought a pedal (in my case the Secret Preamp) to see that Joe Perkins has it on his board.

I am all but finished my board that is wired as 3 boards with a switcher and has a total of 68 pedals. I use every one live to cover 35 original tunes. I just turned 78, LOL. I have given in to the pressure of clubs wanting me to switch to a modeler!!! I lied, LOL ____I bought a Friedman IR-X tube pre. Everyone is happy. I can still tote my Plexi but at 78 if I strain a muscle it takes forever to heal. I am not amazed that the pedal sounds great but I am amazed it feels like my Plexi. I just have it dialed unto the one light Crunch I use on the real amp and I am ready to go. I do find A few pedals need a tweak. Mostly Delays and Reverbs that are now too wet. There isn't any logic to it but my single coils seem to not pick up any signals that boost the noise floor and are now reliably always usable. The great thing is I can get my exact same sound at any volume level. My only digital pedals are 3 Reverbs. All else is analog just like it has been since the mid 60's 😇 WOW your rig is to die for. I hope you have it insured!!! I checked on many as you were demoing them. I am in Canada and everything has import duties and taxes so they all are eye watering pricy. Add 100 pounds more to anything you would pay. ouch!

I find it interesting that, in general, transistors are scorned for amplifiers but can be a holy grail for pedals. Not talking about this channel, but I just thought about it when Joe pulled out those tube pedals. Speaking of which, I wonder what kind of amazing tube preamp "pedals" one could create out of real guitar amps. (Preamp out into another amp - maybe with a re-amp box in between?) I don't know much about this stuff, just thinking out loud....

I concur on the Effectrode compressor - I have the leveling amp. It is smooth as silk. And the Crucial Audio delay. I have the Echo Nugget. Only the AnalogMan Dual Delay comes close to that otherwise you need to get a true tape delay to get that amazing vintage feel. I have always loved the secret preamp. It’s on every board

Cheers Tim! It almost didn't happen, but it felt wrong to not do any sort of build to start the year :-)

Since the AnalogMan Chorus is also derived from the Small Clone, does the Kurt's Cologne edge it out due to the extra controls/versatility?
@JoePerkinsMusic18 сағат бұрын
I did compare the two - they could get very close sonically, but as you say, the PastFX has load more settings :-)

While this board is quite impressive, you have so much money invested in it that you could probably just sell off most of these pedals and any amps or guitars your not crazy about and build your ultimate 3 amp, 3 guitar, 6 pedal rig. How many problems would be solved by owning a Friedman Smallbox and a Brownface Fender Princeton? Add a delay, a phaser, and a couple of fuzz pedals. You might not even want the rest. Well, to each their own. You're always enjoyable to watch. I'm glad you're having fun making music!
@JoePerkinsMusic18 сағат бұрын
True - but it's definitely the inspiration factor that I build these boards for....many different sounds easily accessible to see what sparks the creativity. :-) Glad you've been enjoying the videos!!
@GuitarUnderground18 сағат бұрын
@@JoePerkinsMusic Sure, different approaches. Everything is valid, but just remember that there more complication can lead to more creative limitation than having a more curated palette of tools. Analysis paralysis. Sounds can spark creativity, but relying on that can be limiting as well. Bands like the Beatles, CCR, Zep, even the Police didn't have a lot of sounds, but they consistently found creativity through the songwriting process and then added sounds to fit what they wrote. It's something think about-where did they find their inspiration?

I’m building my second board as my first is 20 years old 😂. The small board is for classic rock and the new one (classic Pro) will be for ambient and Dream Pop and many digital pedals (sorry Perky lol). I opted to not get a pedal switcher for the same reason you tend to plug straight in. Better to move cables by hand and save $1500 😂. 😊
@JoePerkinsMusic18 сағат бұрын
You lost me at digital ;-) haha Very true RE saving money on switchers though - unless you're playing live, and if you have the time to plug things in & out, it's a much cheaper way of doing it!!
