Snow rated tires are something you never really need until you REALLY need them. I can get away with normal OEM all seasons on my 1/2 ton 99% of the time when not off roading, but when roads ice over or haven’t been plowed yet after a 12” snow storm, the difference between snow rated and non-snow rated tires becomes very clear, even for A/T tires.

We have owned Chevy Tahoes for the past 17 years as our family vehicles. They have been great. There is no need to mention rock crawling and the Tahoe in the same breath. That is not what it is designed for. For everything else it has always been a great vehicle to own. Plenty of room for passengers and luggage for road trips. With the LS engine options they have always been super reliable. They tow pretty well and they handle snow in the winter quite well. The AUTO 4WD option is a very nice feature that has been around for about 20 years now and gives it a bit of a taste of AWD when you aren't sure if you need to be in 4HI. They are expensive so we tend to hold onto them for 10 years but they are good vehicles.
@Cloud3000015 күн бұрын
An SUV with a truck engine and a truck chassis makes a very capable vehicle. I wouldn’t use a 1/2 ton for rock crawling, nor would I use the Tahoe for very similar reasons, but if I didn’t need every pound of payload for towing then the Tahoe can easily do everything a 1/2 ton can while allowing more room for passengers and climate controlled storage/camping. Especially when you have a family of four and a large dog, which can comfortably go in the back for trips, which the 1/2 tons cannot accommodate.

The family wants one of these and while I do prefer the much more-luxurious and tech-oriented GMC Yukon Denali, the cost differential means that the Chevy Tahoe is about $12,000 cheaper for basically the same drive-chain and frame underpinnings. The Chevy has a much more Work-Like interior which means it's EASIER to clean and keep tidy which bodes very well in its favour with the family market. The interior size is large enough to carry EVERYTHING we need for our busy lives and STILL tow a nice 22 foot trailer which we have ALSO been looking at on the used market! Cost-wise, we have some competitive local dealers in the Metro Vancouver, Canada offering incentives on financing which makes the Chevy Tahoe CHEAPER to buy here in Canada than for Americans buying the U.S. version! We are also looking at the Ford Expedition but that one is priced quite a bit higher BUT it does have more luxury and technology features! That said, the Tahoe's more WORK-oriented interior is a LOT easier to keep clean so those with children and pets would be probably better off with the cheaper Chevy Tahoe trims with vinyl or cloth seats rather than the more luxurious GMC Yukon or Ford Expedition. Just remember to spend some money to change out the tires for the deeper-treaded retail versions of the Goodyear Wrangler Territory M/T's so you can drive better in winter snow, during the west coast rainstorms and on some packed-gravel forest service roads to the local lake or river. It’s a beautiful truck too bad the unfortunate truth is 95% of buyers of this trim level will not do anything remotely like you just did. Most buy it for the look and seating capability but it’s nice to see it handle some off roading.

I’ve had one for two years in my 2023 Tahoe with zero issues and 60k miles later

@nyc8452 lol okay fool. Yeah as opposed to what....a "reliable" tundra that has metal shavings in the engine from the factory and blows up at 1500 miles?
@ALMX5DP15 күн бұрын
@@nyc8452you can say something similar for just about every modern engine. Nothing is perfect, everything tends to have an Achilles heal, but generally I think it’s just fine for an individual owner.

It would be good if it was half the price.

No idea the cost but I'm sure it insane. There's a reason there are more loan defaults in the past 2 years than ever before. People love debt but can't afford it.

$84k? I will wait a couple years and pick it up as a lease return and save $30k.

If I could give more than one thumbs up to this comment I would. I was going to say it myself. Every time I follow one down the road I am shocked by how low those are!

FYI Things that completely change traction characteristics. A few degrees in temp Humidity levels/water content in snow Weight of vehicle - Lighter vehicles perform better sometimes, heavier vehicles perform better sometimes. Tires, tires, tires - obviously. If a vehicle goes first in the test, second, third etc - huge difference Unless all the vehicles have the exact same tire, tested on the exact same track and at the exact same time. These tests are useless to determine which vehicle.performs better.

Guys, I normally say anything negative about your editorial choices, I am not particularly shocked a 4wd truck with any all terrain tires do well in snow.

Has GM transitioned from the G80 locking diff to a limited slip diff?
@Japplesnap15 күн бұрын
Who knows? They failed to discuss the 4wd system at all. That's why this channel is mediocre at best.

So you watch to hear about the trucks performance in the snow and he talks about the pretty red tow hooks and the dirty paint on the rear.

I dont think it can replace a truck or a truck bed. I aint gonna haul wood in that trunk lol
@TheCharleseye15 күн бұрын
Who said it would? Nobody is telling you to replace your truck with an SUV. What a weird comment.
@stevenpeterson723415 күн бұрын
@TheCharleseye They said it was like a truck, van and suv. So... how was that a weird comment lol
@TheCharleseye15 күн бұрын
@stevenpeterson7234 Because they didn't say it can replace a truck, van, and SUV. One would have to be pretty simple-minded to think they meant that something without a bed could perform all of the tasks of something with a bed.

@@TheCharleseye 13:15-13:25 Case and i quote: Case says it can potentially replace a truck, van and light duty off road vehicle. So yes they do say it. Where's your wife's purse 👛? Don't put your two cents in!! Can your wife sow? BOOM!! Get her to sow that!! 😂
