I really hope Genesis can pull together and work on the dealership experience because their cars are so great as standalone products, but luxury buyers need to FEEL like they are buying a luxury car too.

They are working hard at it. Our local (Houston) Hyundai/Genesis dealership separated last year into two new facilities, and my experience at the new Genesis dealership was amazing. Interestingly enough, the service at the Hyundai dealership too was vastly improved.

Every time I see a Genesis on the street it immediately catches my eye. What a beautiful interior as well. If only the dealership wasn’t so bad in my country, I would’ve sold my Lexus and bought one by now!

While I miss the regular GV80 having visible exhaust pipes, I can understand why the GV80 Coupe has them since it's the more "sporty-looking model. And while yes, there are large screens inside, they don't go too far beyond the top of the dashboard or look like they were stuck onto it like in BMWs and Mercs. Furthermore, the materials and colors used in the interior of the GV80 are such a breath of fresh air. Most notably, the basalt (volcanic rock) option on the door panel is where they take basalt and turn it into thread, and then they weave the basalt threads into fabric.

Hyundai/Kia still have a reputation of being "throw away cars". Despite being very close to the top of the list in terms of reliability these days it's hard to shake that stigma. The Korean car brands are the first that others like to pick on, especially those who consider themselves "real" luxury car owners (Audi, BMW, Benz, etc). I owned a Hyundai Equus (The Genesis G90 successor) and absolutely adored it. I drove it to 198,000 miles before trading it for a Lexus LS500, and even though that car was much older there's still a few things I think it did better than the Lexus. That being said, when I'm ready to replace my LS for another full size executive sedan I'll probably go back to Genesis and get the new G90.

That's because the engineering /materials is a step below for the most part. Watch mechanic breakdowns of some of these engines.

I really hope they don’t mess with the design too much for future generations. This design is so good and they should keep it as signature Genesis brand styling.

The ‘interesting wood’ is actually recycled newspaper and the black/gray streaks in it are print from the paper. Genesis, and Hyundai, put more effort into interesting and eco friendly materials than any other manufacturer.

This kinda makes me think of the XM. I really think if a brand thats not known as BMW is for sport it would of got alot more attraction. Saw one the other day and was blown away. Literally a tank and the quad exhuast is just epic.

Outside of a fancier interior, the GV80, as pretty as it is, is not a better vehicle. The BMW will dog walk it on the road. Engine, transmission, braking, handling, all vastly better in the BMW with a still comfortable ride. The BMW actually gives a vastly better performance PLUS better efficiency. That is real engineering, not just pretty leather and a blingy grille.

Funny how all the "new" design features are simply a copy of what the GV70 has always had. The infotainment controls, front end, steering wheel...all directly from the GV70. I just bought a GV70. Still dont like the design-less slab of screens stuck on the dash. Every Kia and Hyundai vehicle has exactly the same screen design. Disappointing.

A vehicle should look great at first glance and then followed through by the up close details. This car just doesn’t have it. Everyone immediately has to really focus in to point out something nice but from a distance just looks like a rebranded Buick.

design is better but as a car x5 is way better. x5 is best all around suv currently in the market. I am Korean and I really love genesis but It’s a fact. Almost all Koreans agree that x5 have better ride, powertrain, and overall performance.

Stop it……..No the GV80 isn’t better than the X5. Yes it has a nice interior but it handles far less precisely than the X5. In fact the Acura MDX is a faster vehicle handles far better than the GV80 and also offers an air suspension that the GV80 does not for almost $10K less. I guess it depends on what you value. I still fail to wrap my head around the fact that Hyundai/Genesis did not even try to position themselves as a value option for the Germans but instead priced themselves similarly.
@JDubbs07
@JDubbs07 23 күн бұрын
That air suspension WILL eventually fail. It's not a question of if, but when. Enjoy that repair bill when the time comes. Mercedes, Porche, Jeep, etc. all fall victim to failed air chambers. Compare the ride in person and decide accordingly. Meanwhile, yes, it matters what you value. Most midsize luxury SUVs are purchased by urban/suburban customers, and live their lives sitting in traffic and on passenger duty. Sportiness is of limited importance in the pothole-filled landscapes of today's population centers. I'd rather have the soft riding people mover and the fun car for personal use, but that's just me
@DM-xt3rl
@DM-xt3rl 22 күн бұрын
@ Undoubtedly the MDX air suspension components will be markedly cheaper to replace/repair than the Germans. A lot of people especially these days cannot afford to have a “fun car” hence the need for a versatile vehicle that can do a bit of everything. Any way you slice it $80K + for a GV80 is ridiculous. I almost bought one of the first in 2021 and they were asking about $72K then which I thought was high then for a fully loaded prestige model. That sad people like what they like and will pay for what they like.
@JDubbs07
@JDubbs07 22 күн бұрын
@@DM-xt3rl many of these automakers share suppliers, so I would not be so assured of perceived savings when it comes to parts cost, only labor. The demographic responsibly shopping in the luxury midsize SUV segment does not represent "a lot of people". They are typically 2+ vehicle households. Their "fun" vehicle can be anything they value as fun, from a Miata, to an old Wrangler or Tacoma for offroading, to a sports sedan. Regardless, to place sportiness as the most important thing for a vehicle in this segment is what's actually ridiculous. Again, these are lumbering people movers that sit in traffic all day. While we can celebrate BMW for doing what they did with the X5/6, we must also recognize it's entirely counter to the point of this segment in its entirety. It's only a unique selling proposition, not an expectation. A (non AMG) GLE has no sporting pretensions whatsoever, for example. It's still very popular, and for good reason.

BMW is like Rolex, it has heritage, luxury, prestige and brand recognition which all have been earned through decades of excellence. Genesis is like a nice Casio! it may look and feel as good as a Rolex(and also have a built-in calculator!) but they are not the same. Nobody cross shops a rolex and a casio, nobody pays rolex money for a casio!
