I rented a brand new "old body style" 2024 Chevy Equinox recently. The 1.5L sounded awfully buzzy and provided barely-decent output within a tiny little window of opportunity. The 1.5L drivability, quivers, and sounds reminded me of when I rented a brand-new 1992 Ford Tempo 2.3L. Dull power with unpleasant noises. After 60 miles of city errands, merging, and maneuvering, the car was returned to Enterprise for a hard-used Durango. Apples to Oranges, but the Durango's old-school RWD driveline and 8-speed transmission clunkiness felt 1000X more satisfying than the Equinox. Is there a point here? Yep, GM's 1.5L left a mark in my memory and I could not imagine spending my own money for one.
