How did you go about not getting water in the air filter while cleaning it?

We cut out an old plastic vehicle license plate to fit in the hole to hose the bike off or you can pull the side cover and use a shower cap. We use an airbox cover made by twin air when we wash the bike, you take the filter off and put the cover in it's place and it completely seals off the airbox.
