I’m having 2 problems with this book. 1) In verse 1 of chapter 1 it says, “ in the 25th year of the reign of Jeconiah, king of Judah ... “ But there was no 25th year of the reign of Jeconiah King Of Judah! Jeconiah’s reign only lasted 3 months, and then he was carried off captive to Babylon (2 Kings 24:8-15) 2) In 2 Baruch 10:1-5 it says that God told Baruch to tell Jeremiah that he was to go to Babylon, and that he went. Whereas in Jeremiah we read that Jeremiah was instead taken to Egypt against his will. (See Jeremiah 43:1-7.) I’m actually upset that I’ve found these discrepancies, as I was really enjoying the book and wanted to be able to trust it. Now I’m not sure how much of it is truth and how much of it is not. 🤔

Thanks for bringing this up! There are actually scholars that believe the author (or translators) confused Jehoiachin with Jehoiakim as Jehoiakim was 25 years of age (2 Chronicles 36:5) when he began to reign and the names were very closely translated. As for Jeremiah, I'll have to take a closer look into it. Although it is important to note that historical knowledge should be treated a little bit differently because of these unknown factors, it is definitely a good thing to be alert as there as some books to stay away from, however there isn'ts always a need to throw out the baby with the bath water.
@onlyhis58703 жыл бұрын
@@sonsofjacobministries Thank you for your response and I hear what you’re saying, however I’m studying Jeremiah at the moment - and even Jehoiakim only reigned for 11 years from 609-598BC, so there was no ‘25th year’ of his reign either. There is certainly some really interesting material in the book, however this gives me great pause and concern ... You look at writings like the Agrapha, and you see how subtle and deceptive the enemy is in mixing truth with error. Also, in Jeremiah chapter 45 is a Word from the Lord specifically for Baruch, and it seems from verse 5 that Baruch May have been a little too ambitious, and needed to be brought back into line. So it’s possible that HE had his own personal agenda in making a name for himself ... or in being a prophet in his own right. I’m only guessing that God is referring to this here, but there was definitely something going on with the guy. 5 “And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the Lord: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.”
@sonsofjacobministries3 жыл бұрын
Maybe I wasnt as clear as I would have hoped, allow me to clarify, I was not saying he reigned for 25 years, I was saying that there are scholars who believe there was a possible mix up because the names of Jehoiakim and Jehoiachin were spelled similarly and the number 25 shows up as the age of Jehoiakim when he began to reign. Regardless, your conscience must guide you and you should trust what your spirit bears witness to and spit out the bones. Your Bible says the name Jesus throughout, and you know that wasn't his name, but you didn't put the book down, because you see truth and take it for its value, while forgiving certain hiccups that are natural in manuscripts that survive millenia. The same can be applied here, as your lifelong study progresses, the Highest will guide you through His Holy Spirit.

@Sons Of Jacob Ministries Oh He’s guiding me alright, and this text is not fit to be posted and put forth as ‘truth.’ It is clearly a deception. You should delete it now that you know that it is unscriptural, and stop trying to make excuses! I’m removing my subscription.
