Ever use an OCC knife? They are in the same price range and IMHO are overall better quality than Flexcut, especially the small detail knife. The small OCC handle doesn’t get in the way like the Flexcut handle does. I do like the Flexcut roughout for debarking and getting the exterior surface “found” wood . No doubt that Flexcut knives are good bargain and decent quality for beginners, but there are other options.

Yeah , I pick them up and use them a lot. And if i break one they are cheap enough to replace pretty easily.

Thank you for your review. Didn't know you needed so few knives to cut some of the works of art you produced.

These three knives are in Flexcut's 3-knife starter set KN500 that comes with stropping compound on Amazon for $45.98. Happy Carving.

Thank you great video. I do have the 1st one you showed. Can you please recommend a good strop. I did make 1 about 15 years ago but I wouldn't mind purchasing a good one. Thank you.

This is the one I use nowadays if you'd like to try it. If not flexcut makes others cheaper.....amzn.to/2R6FGPc

Hey one more quick question. Does the strop have 2 different textures on either side.? 1 course in 1 fine?
@stixandstonescarving4 жыл бұрын
@@yobabybubba Yes, one smooth and one rough. And i think you get the polishing compound with it also.

Have you ever tried a Helvie knive? Top notch! Not many carving knives can compete with helvie knives. Not even flexcut.
@stixandstonescarving4 жыл бұрын
I have helvies, they are a good knife , but still not as cheap as flexcuts . I will review those down the road also. This video is about the best for the lowest price and with all the flexcut sets out there , they are still the best buy I think for beginners.

Will the helvie knives work on poplar ?? Because the helvie I was told only good for soft wood !!!!
@tbrew82223 жыл бұрын
Im not online enough to do the wait list thing for helvies or drake. Ive made quite a few of my own that suit my needs though.

I see these. Knives are too thick where the blade comes from the handle, if we’re to have one of these knives I would cut away much of the wood and also cross hatch the top front area so your thumb won’t slip off, I use the thumb pushing thumb method, 55 years of carving. I do like the handle tapering down giving more ability for heavy cutting. Thanks
