For to be beginning, I always hit the "like" button as soon as I get here. It's a simple matter of trust: if I could not expect a tale as tall as it is long, why would I be a subscriber? It's as clear a deal as a deal can be: I subscribe and you inform and entertain. If I feel that my expectations have been betrayed, I'm gone as fast as a fart in a hurricane. And thank you so much for this video! Learning while your mood is good is better than learning by rote nine ways from the Tuesday of your choice.

I'm so glad I found this. I'm working on a series of novellas inspired by various civilizations and their mythology. For the Celtic mythology mythology I am writing my own version of the King Arthur story. So this is helping a lot.

There's a TV miniseries (from 1998) about Merlin, played by Sam Neill. The cast is great: Rutger Hauer, Helena Bonham Carter, Isabella Rossellini, Miranda Richardson, Martin Short, Lena Headey.

Using the Type Moon versions of Arthur and Mordred had me laughing. Great video. It's nice to see people who really enjoy what they're doing too. I like the version where Mordred is the child of his "accidental" coupling with his sister, then getting heckled by Merlin for it. And Arthur collecting all the babies born the month of Mordred's birth and setting them adrift in an empty ship to get rid of him. Heroes were way more fun back then.

The movie "Excaliber" follows what you said fairly closely. With hollywood "enhancements"... Except in that movie, the sword(s) were known as Excaliber only. It was repaired or replaced by "The Lady of the Lake" after Arthur's fight with Lancelot.

It's actually been forever since I've seen any except the Guy Ritchie film(which is a masterpiece, if not very accurate to the lore). Are you talking about the one with Kiera Knightley?

@@BlackDragonTavern You're thinking of the movie called "King Arthur", in which Kiera Knightly plays a Pictish prisoner of a Roman Senator, living in Pict territory. Oddly, she plays the Only version of Guinevere that I have ever liked. Also in this movie, is the only version of Launcelot that I've ever liked. While I'm not sure how accurate this movie may/may not be, I really love the characters. They are all realistically down to earth and behave much like I would imagine real people of that time would be like, instead of being portrayed as some unrealistic, divinely descended.... I don't even know what.... Something as fake as Twilight's sparkling vampires maybe....? Ewww! 😂 I prefer the real, unadulterated history of our world, instead of something like Sir Thomas Mallory's glamourized nonsense, which I personally find absolutely nauseating. I simply watch the movies as purely entertainment. This isn't meant to be a rant, it's just my own perception of certain aspects of the Arthurian legend. All that aside, I have a question. Given the time frame in which Arthur was supposed to have lived, would he have been a Pagan King, or a Christian King, or the king caught in the middle of the two opposing beliefs - ie. transitioning from one to the other? Thanks Castle.

I love the King Arthur myth!! In your family's tales who is Mordred's mother?
@BlackDragonTavern
@BlackDragonTavern 3 жыл бұрын
So, in our lore the majority of these stories are actually copies of other myths that were used by Christians to bring Pagans into the fold. Most of the Arthurian Tales are taken from the mythos of Angus O, and Cuchulain. The original telling of the story Morgause is always the mother of Mordred, but in some versions it is Morgana. What's interesting, is that the conflict between Arthur and Morgana is almost identical to the conflict between Cuchulain and the Morrigan.

Right, this is one of the reasons I enjoy these stories so much, they pull heavily from Norse and Gaelic myth. In this instance it goes in reverse because it was not the true sword of power until it was reforged in the fires of the lake. It's such a fascinating series of tales👆😁

One thing I always think about. If Uther wanted so much to do the dirty with that fair maiden, why he just asked Merlin to enchant his wife to look like the fair maiden. That's what I would do in either places. This old kings were not smart lol

I have an idea for a video. Celtic symbols. I love Celtic crosses. There are many knots. I'm guessing the knots style was around long before the Christians .I found a dara knot I would like to have tattooed on my foot. I don't want to get the wrong one. What are the criteria for a dara knot for example. There are so many pictures online would be cool to see your take on symbolism.

@@BlackDragonTavern I never heard that one. Most people are more interested in Norse mythology. In the Volsunga Saga, Odin puts a sword into a tree saying that the sword will belong to whoever can pull it out. Siegfried does. So it belongs to him, and then he passed it on to his son, Sigurd, who used it to kill Fafnir.
