Love listening to any pro talk about double stops. Amazing to see all the different approaches to the exact same thing

I love this!!! It's great seeing someone like you trying to learn something new. I look at you like a master guitarist and honestly it discourages me sometimes. I feel like I won't be good if I don't practice for 22 hours every single day. It's nice to see you struggling with something and working your way through it. It reminds me that we all start somewhere and it all just takes time.

Fantastic video, thank you! Btw, that kick y’all are playing also reminds me of Ira Louvin’s intro on Katie Dear. All of Ira’s breaks are so clear and melodic with great tone and texture!🤘🏽

This was an amazing lesson. I'm a guitarist who has just started with the mandolin. I subscribe to both of your sites and have learned so much. This lesson was groundbreaking for me. Thank you!

On guitar, the first position (major or minor) A , C/D, ad E/F forms let the player use the higher pitched 3 or 4 strings and add the lower pitched two when desired. the scales for each root can be easily built from the selected root chord shape. chords in a progression can be identified by as little as one choice note with no need to play a full chord. I look forward to developing a similar approach on the mandolin I can anticipate a reduction of note from 3 or 4 to only two at most

Very interesting discussion of double stops and mandolin fret board. Maybe I’ll try my hands on mandolin again. I enjoy both of your KZbin channels. Thanks.

I think I just discovered that my favorite mandolin pick is the Dunlop Stubby Triangle 1.5mm over the Big Stubby 2.0 (not a triangle) because it's faster but still solid feeling with less effort to hold.

I’ve really learned a lot about playing mandolin by watching David’s channel. And quite a bit from you guys as well.

I like how David says "You don't have to feel bad about using easy shapes. The cool thing about it is that's how music works here". :-)

Great show, guys. I have had to put my mando playing on hold this winter, as I live in a house full of football and C&W people that DO NOT appreciate mandolin/ old time music. This summer, hopefully, there will be jams, etc. and I can take up mandolin again. Cheers, guys. Bob

Excellent! Monkey see monkey, do doesn't inform monkey why. Scales are a series of single notes correlated by logical relationships. Playing more than one note at a time extends that logic and deepens the relationship. Commonly agreed upon names for the stages of logical extension are helpful for communication but add nothing to the logic which must be experienced. It's the experience which informs and does so far beyond mimicry. Transferring the understanding of logical relationship is the very definition of teaching. Instruction cannot go beyond mimicry.

So much fun & Love, love the wine and cheese, er..beer and brat, 🤔 okay Champaign and Caviar pairing of you both together 😉… but my mind, she’s struggling a bit to keep up 😥! What are the 3, er 6 double-stops that Marcel (we) should be practicing? (Shape names w/ frets, strings & notes again?)

In CAGED, C and D are actually the same shape

In a way yes.... as are G and A... but, the roots are in a different place and they make different open position shapes... but, yes, a 2nd inversion D triad is hidden in a "C" shape" and a 2nd inversion "A" triad is hidden in a "G" shape.

This way of thinking does not naturally take hold with guitar players because of the speed hump. Maybe beginners should be made to just take off the B and hi E strings, learn your way around a 4 stringer, and only put back the speed hump back after 2 or 3 yrs practice?
