Hi Mogi! I love this series. The pandemic cost me and all of my colleagues our jobs. I started reselling and now I've been reselling for 4 months. Two months ago I transitioned from an in betweener to a High ASP module. I never thought I could actually do this for a living but I am now dedicated to doing this full time! :) I've started posting regularly about my experience on my channel and instagram, but I needed to tell you, you have been my number one resource for help and motivation! Keep going, you are amazing! :)

Mogi. You have been blessed by the Lordt with SUCH a business mind. I’ve been reselling for just shy of 3 years and this is HANDS DOWN the best video I’ve watched relative to our field. I am recognizing some things and this is gold. I would love to hear your outlook on transitioning customers and followers from a Low COGs models into a High ASP once capital is available. Be blessed girl. You’ve helped SO many people today

That is such a good topic Sara! I started my business with rock bottom prices, since all of my inventory was donated/free. I built up a lot of repeat customers, but I'm now sourcing much more expensive items. The transition hasn't been easy, as buyers are still expecting the same prices!

This was a great promo/teaser for your course. Such good information. I was an in-betweener and found myself barely making a profit, and spending a lot of time listing and sourcing for very little return, and getting frustrated. This year I switched to low COGS and that's going to be the plan until I build enough capital to re-evaluate my business model. Excited for you and Matt! Congrats on your course!

Wow, Mogi! I can definitely tell you've done years of research and I thank you so much for offering this video for free. I have learned a lot. I think when I first started on my journey as a reseller, I was all over the place bc I didn't know what I was doing. I naturally began to gravitate toward the High ASP model, probably because I prefer to list things that I myself like/would actually wear. I think as a full-time graduate student, this is also the best model for me bc it requires less time spent on things like listing and shipping. I may have to pay more upfront and wait a little longer to make sales with the High ASP model, but at the end of the day, I am getting to list what I love and I have more time to do focus elsewhere. Not to mention, in the long-run, I end up making more money.

Thank you for reassuring me that profit will come with a high ASP model, but it will take time! Living in California, I knew I really only had one option with a business model. The closest goodwill outlet to me is an hour away and it would be VERY difficult to have a average COG below $7. Location is a huge factor when choosing which model is best for you. Can’t wait to purchase your course! 🤗 -Faith

Thank you for this information! I started reselling a few months ago and I bought high end things to sell and was wondering why they were not selling at the rate as other things. But the way you broke the high asp down and the sell through rate it makes a lot of sense! Fairly new to reselling, new to your channel, and just wanted to say - absolutely love it. When I first started reselling I watched a few KZbin videos (I like learning in the background while I'm organizing inventory/packing for shipping etc). I quickly got bored with so many videos giving the same generic advice. I stumbled across your channel yesterday and it has re-inspired me to watch reselling videos on KZbin (mostly yours lol). Thanks for taking the time and effort to create content that is actually useful!

This is SUCH good info!! I feel super lucky to source in an area (Boston) that has awesome thrifting so I'm lucky enough to have a high asp with an in betweenish COG and a good sell through rate but this is also inspiring me to supplement by "paying up" for certain items so I can keep my ASP even higher since I don't have an easy way to lower my cost of goods. Thanks for the motivation, Mogi!! :)

I feel like I'm in between but not in the way explained here. My business is half and half. Alot of my COGs are at or around $1-$3 but I also retail arbitrage and thrift some higher COG items around $12-$16 but they do sell for $50-$125 on average. While I love the goodwill bins they don't allow children In ours, for obvious reasons, so I rarely can go. And children can only ask about an hour in a cart in the store then they are totally done. So I hit up 90% off sales at other thrift stores and grab larger amounts of items in one go very quickly and I do this a few times a year meaning massive death pile for a week or so and days of listing hundreds of items in one weekend rather than a few items a day. I honestly am kind of straddling a few business models untill all my kids are in school so I can thrift more regularly and be more picky.

I’ve been thinking about this all night. 😂 No need to answer if it’s revealed in the course, but if not... is it beneficial to create a hybrid of low cogs low asp (most available in my area & circumstances), and adding the higher cogs as I can find them? Or does that just wind me up in the same in-betweener category? I’ve been stuck there for a couple years without realizing until you pointed it out!

I guess I have a unicorn because my overhead is nothing more than gas/car maintenance. However I’ve also been a reseller for almost 30 years now & I’m a bit of a beast for this reason. I also time capsuled single stitch band tees back in the 90’s and that alone has made me more money than I care to mention (because it’s literally disgusting). Highly recommend air tight time capsules, y’all! I also have almost zero waste because of all of the levels of sales platforms my inventory eventually goes thru. And I don’t even bother to sell online on Poshmark or eBay anymore! 🤣 Between Marketplace & garage sales it almost all gets sold in the end. Just some food for thought for anyone who needed to hear this. Oh snap… I actually sell to resale stores for the most part, btw. So I’m only getting 30-35% of selling price in cash or 50% in trade (which I often flip between stores too). But when places like Wasteland are selling arena rock concert tees for $200 retail & they give me 35% cash on the spot you can see why I tend to opt to not sit on my merch for the most part. I’m fine with instantly making $70 per shirt & skipping all the work that used to drive me crazy about online sales. Okay, but again, I hope this info finds the right people who needed to hear all of this… you def have options, my fellow reseller.

Thank you for this video! I just started to use the spreadsheet. Is it normal to have a low sell through rate your first couple months while you build inventory? I’ve been listing sooooo much (started with 200 items this month and am at 370), but that has made my sell through rate definitely go down.
@MogiBeth4 жыл бұрын
Hello! Matt here, yes any sudden growth will result in a temporary decrease in sell through rate for two reasons. 1) This is a smaller point especially with regards to you beginning to grow your closet, however I think it is worth mentioning. There is usually a slight diminishing returns to the items you list. Meaning, if your "better" items sell quicker because they are better, naturally your remaining closet would be of less attractive items that take longer to sell. But more importantly 2) There is a lag between you listing an item and it selling. And we measure that by average and median sales days on your spreadsheet. So if the majority of your closet takes 45 days to sell, and you list a bunch of items this month, you won't see the majority of those items sell until a couple of months pass by. So what we have here is you growing your inventory size (as being recorded in THIS month) before allowing enough time to pass for their corresponding sales to occur (which will be recorded in future months), hence driving down the sellthrough rate. So while we would love to retain a constant sell through rate, we find that that is just not the case if you are trying to grow. Hope this helps!

Great breakdown of all aspects of this. Personally, I am watching the markets and what is happening with the pandemic (not at all political just reality) people are looking for clothes that are, during these times, more versatile as far as workwear, and casual wear, and seeking a lower price point overall. Watching all of this even more carefully: how is the economy truly responding as we are possibly looking at this going into 2021, and perhaps beyond as a vaccine implementation is a roll of the dice: when will a safe vaccine be available? (I can speak to this as I have a medical background and right now as of today, we do not, and that for me knowing the science and knowing where we are in treatment and vaccine development is disturbing-- will we be living with this as the new normal forever? as you know for some viruses we have not been able to develop a vaccine and we change our lives to live with it) will a vaccine be accepted to really make a difference and how fast? how fast will it get to the average person? will the average person actually take advantage of it? The economy is one part of it, and but a LARGE part of it. I watch the markets and that does affect the mindset of the buyer, if they are aware of it or not (some do not follow and I get that but job loss and even being furloughed for short time can be devastating and make purchases like clothing seem like a trivial expense except for what is needed. That target market for fast fashion, luxury items, or having a name brand (that is 'trending') is nervous right now --- watching and waiting to see what will happen in the weeks well into November, and December, economists worldwide are discussing how things will look different for some time if not for all time (i.e. companies realizing that work from home is fine, and "office" wear is well not a thing much anymore. What will people value after this and reality sets in, I know of several formal events /galas (fundraisers) that will never happen again, and that is just the writing on the wall. Time will tell, and this is a volatile time. Again great info would totally work minus the pandemic economic impact. My thought is what you present, again, is very smart and well thought out, however, I am looking at the entire picture going into 2021, and hoping for the best. Thanks again, always well-planned videos with excellent visuals!
