Have dealt with chronic pain almost two years steady now. I make great gains getting over it but the last two weeks have had a challenging relapse with the pain causing fear and lots of anxiety (especially at night with nocturnal panic attacks) - I almost think when I feel great like today - that's not normal for me anymore - it's almost like I am so use to being in pain that being out of it does not feel normal and then I am just waiting for the pain to start again - a viscous cycle. Crazy to think but that is my experience with this journey I am on.

Sorry to hear what you are going through. You are right pain can become a familiar state to the brain, however over time neuroplastic pain can be unlearned. I wish you healing.

@@painpsychotherapy I sure hope so because mentally and physically the daily pain really takes all the enjoyment out of life. I know it's not going to kill me, but it's unnerving nonetheless, especially going out shopping with my kids today.

Thank you I actually just came across your video this makes a lot of sense I'm always preoccupied with obsessive overthinking I guess it's because it's a distraction from my emotions this is how I was since I was a child being around a manic father being scared as a child half to death up until 18 so my brain became wired to do this to distract me of the terrori that I was facing so when I find myself being preoccupied I have to stop like you said and get into my body

Thank you for getting back. I am curious whether you have worked with clients with dyspepsia where causing stomach pain especially after meal. Or constant pain. I am going through the episode of these. I wonder whether you have experience working with these type of mind body syndrome. Because of these, I lost a lot of weight and it is quite scary. Any advice?

This is really helpful Tanner. I have one question in that the pain in my body is so extensive with the nerves twisting into the fascia constantly, it's very hard not to be preoccupied with The Sensations because they never stop. Any ideas on how not to be preoccupied. Thanks for all your education and wisdom

So happy it is helpful. I have another video on preoccupation you can check out. Also within the next few days I am posting a video on different ways to connect with our body, which is really helpful for me. Happy healing.

These videos are fascinating. You're a wonderful teacher, Tyler! I have a weird response - because I learned Cognitive Behavioural Therapy decades ago, I don't catastrophize or get stuck in fear thinking loops. But I notice what might be tension or anxiety in the body - like a tense throat, or a spike in blood pressure. That sounds like the crocodile brain is thinking the situation dangerous even when I DON"T, and putting me into Fight or Flight. Is that possible? It's frustrating when I feel quite calm and confident about a problem or situation - but my body reacts like I"m worrying.
@painpsychotherapy Жыл бұрын
I'm so glad this was helpful. Yes, this is possible as what our nervous system views as safe or dangerous may not match what we logically think is safe or dangerous. Generally, nervous system regulation is key when this mismatch is occurring (of course I cannot say what would be best for your case over social media).
@thedancingdivaofdaviestree2320 Жыл бұрын
@@painpsychotherapy I just started reading "No Bad Parts" about Internal Family Systems therapy. According to that, an inner child might still be nervous about something I got over, and stuck in the bullied past, for example. Also fascinating, and goes with Somatic Tracking really nicely.

Great video Tanner. I'm anxious preoccupied attachment, so it would stand to reason that I would find it easy to be preoccupied with anything going on in my body. I have read Alan Gordon's book now, what has got me thinking is that I wonder if this cycle is causing me to keep weight on. My preoccupation is my weight, which is probably causing a stress cycle.

I find I’m stuck because the theory all seems so paradoxical. Anyone else get this? So for example, my anxiety is sky high and I surely need to process it for it to reduce in intensity, but I always seem to be outside my window of tolerance (because of the anxiety), and I’m told that processing things when outside the window will make them worse. It seems there’s no way to win in this situation!
@painpsychotherapy2 ай бұрын
I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through. I know this healing work can be confusing, as we need different things at different times. Amplifying the ventral vagal state is key when outside the healing window .
@pedrom88312 ай бұрын
Thanks Tanner, but what about the anxiety? I’m terrified of making it worse by interacting with it whilst outside the window, but I can’t avoid it. So it seems that whatever I do I will only make it worse. I feel like I’m being told that we can only process anxiety when we’re not hyperaroused. But how can we get out of hyperarousal except by processing it?
