Good, thorough advice! One other tip I'd like to add for everyone: don't throw away your used strings immediately, it's a good idea to keep at least one recently used set around. That way, if you break a string and don't have time to play in a new string before performing, you can put your used string back on as a stop-gap. It may not sound the best, but it's already stretched out and will at least stay in tune, and it's not going to sound as harsh as a brand-new string. When I remove a string, I put it in the empty packet that the new string came in, and write "USED" and the date on the packet.

Very nice video. You should mention that sometimes there is small piece of tape on the bridge under the E string so, being the thinnest string, it doesn't cut into the bridge. Have a shop replace it if the tape is damaged if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.

This was such perfect timing, as one of mine snapped !!! ( I over tightened in tuning and they were old strings ) The ones you have are pricey ! I do want to get them but you also said about Helicores on your course, which are cheaper. Do you know of any others that are cheaper and of good quality ? You got extra for your instruction and festive occasion ( This should have gone towards my strings 😅)!! Have a great Thanks giving !!!

Wow Cody, thank you very much for your above and beyond generosity supporting my lil channel here! 😱🙏 Vision strings are slightly less expensive than Helicore and known for being great value and good quality, but I personally do not like them as much as my other two ride or die string sets- Helicore and Eva. Happy Thanksgiving!!

@ Is it worth replacing the bridge as well ? If so any recommendations ? It just looks a bit old . It’s only a cheapy violin from a thrift shop , but I would like to upgrade bits where I can ! It’s no hidden barn find but she sounds ok. I will take a look at those vision strings . Thanks for the advice ❤️🔥🎻

@@TheHotViolinistThanks again for this video. I went for Helicore in the end. Bit fiddly with the standard pegs and I didn’t risk changing the bridge. ❤🔥🎻

I took all your advice when purchasing my violin from your course because I didn’t know anything. I have not regretted the geared peg upgrade , the same with evah’s strings although the Helicore was a nice sound. When I first changed my strings, my bridge began to lean towards the fingerboard. So it might be worth adding to ensure that it stays 90 degrees to the violin, whilst tuning and setting up ( Also I did rush the tuning and snapped a string which gives you a little smack for your impatience 😅). It did take a few days for my strings to settle . But they do sound lovely when I get the intonation right 😂. You do have lots of useful info on your course and your teaching is easy to follow. I frequently revisit for touch ups on the basics, so thanks again for that too !! ❤

Oh yes! I totally forgot to mention the constant bridge adjustments needed throughout this. Thanks for mentioning that along with your experience over all!

You’re welcome 🙂. It’s very easy to get tasked focus and forget little things. I thoroughly enjoyed doing your course, it takes time and a lot of practice to get good from nothing, and my violin journey has still only just begun, with your help and inspiration. So kudos to you !❤️

Thanks ma'am nice tutorial. Greater quality takes time. Go slow. 👍You make it look easy. But not as easy as what came to mind as soon as seen this video. Remember Tom and Jerry cartoon? Jerry's hillbilly uncle would break a string and just pluck a whisker from Tom and be back to playing in a jiffy. 😬 😮😂

Maybe the rosin polishes the string and it becomes harder for the string to vibrate if it's smooth. I'm sure an instrument mechanic or an engineer could tell why old strings don't work very good. Another guess I had is maybe the metal in the string is starting to fatigue and get cracks in it microscopically .and it dampens it and makes it not vibrate as good.....duh..... I don't know for sure but I think it's rather interesting. And Jenny.... Don't forget to make a new video about cookies....
