Decent vid. Re; spray lubricant/fork shock oils- a GREAT tip is to use supermarket carrier bags over the disks and calipers then spray as required. The silicone sprays tend to drift down from the fork seals etc so its a more reliable way to eliminate over spray wrecking your discs and pads.
@gmbn
@gmbn 9 жыл бұрын
NNICKKK Hey Thats a good point about covering the discs, you can be bit more liberal with using lube/silicon on your bike with out any worry. cheers Marc
@andrefilipeasilva
@andrefilipeasilva 9 жыл бұрын
Global Mountain Bike Network One tip I use for the silicon spray on the frame is: use 2 plastic bags to cover each disk and then you can spray the silicon spray all over the bike without worring about the disks and pads ;) I do it always and then use a clean wrag to clean the excess! And with this method I ensure that the bike is full covered with the spray :D

All good advice : Except I reckon : Silicon spray is a terrible idea to use in any area you intend to do any kind of painting in. The stuff never really goes away, and leaves pockets in your paint job (including any of the surrounding area where you spray it).

I used to ride and race motocross and discovered Simple Green mixed 50/50 with water in a pump up sprayer works awesome. Same basic process that you do but I used a pressure washer and rarely needed a brush for anything but the chain. So for my MTB I use your same process but with the simple green/water mix.....

Instead of silicone spray, I use spray was for cars, I have it handy because I’m an automotive detailer, it’s great and less harmful than silicone lube for brakes, I also put a coat of paste wax on my bike every time i do a deep clean, about every month or so, it helps remove dirt easily

@gmbn
@gmbn 8 жыл бұрын
+Rohit Beniwal Hello Rohit, unless you have some special kind of brake pads that I've never heard off, then Im afraid your bike shop is wrong. Mountain bikes are designed to be ridden off road in all different types of weather. Theres nothing wrong with getting them wet. If your bike is a normal mountain bike with disc brakes you can definitely get them wet. Just a normal light weight grease will be fine for your chain and there are lots of bike wash brand to choose from :)

+Global Mountain Bike Network Thanks a lot for the quick reply! Yeah the advice seemed a little odd to me as well Anyway... the bike is a Scott Aspect 950 Its got Tektro hydraulic disk brakes... which by all means are normal.

I think there's de-greaser or brake cleaner for that purpose. However, I actually haven't ever cleaned my brake caliper itself yet :D only the discs & brake pads with the stuff mentioned, or if contaminated I burned it off with benzine / ethanol.
@danielgeorge8air110
@danielgeorge8air110 7 жыл бұрын
Rohit Beniwal it's fine to get your brake pads wet or even dirty, as long as you let them dry, but getting them wet can make them wear out a bit quicker...

Wax your bike. Yeah I know it's sounds stupid but a nice hard wax doesn't just make your bike shiny, it also forms a nice hydrophobic coating on top of the frame, wheels and the lowers of your fork so that any mud, dirt or dust that gets on it can easily be sprayed off.

So, do you use Invis on your bike? If so, how much does that help in cleaning it? The reason I brought this up was because in a previous video you made, I saw a close up of your bike and thought I saw clear vinyl covering the frame. I just purchased an Invis kit and use it on my Yeti. Was wondering if having that on the bike makes it considerably easier to clean?
