It’s really funny to me that the rumor mill took 4 games nobody would be shocked at going multiplat if they were just announced on their own, and turned that story into Xbox completely dying.

I think it might be because Xbox seem(s/ed) to be ditching physical games. add in the are firmly in last, and have admitted that they are not making money, it' s prefect storm of connections.

There was a combination of circumstances that led to the worrying, this didn’t just pop out of thin air. We had already seen the recent layoffs, the admittance of Game Pass struggling to gain subscribers, and previous rumors about Microsoft pushing further away from physical copies of upcoming software. Then with Microsoft doing nothing to calm the nerves of their consumers with cryptic responses, it just led to people fearing the worst.

To be fair, Phil has also said he doesn't want to completely rule out any other games and that he sees exclusives being less important in the future, so I'm sure it won't end with those games. I don't think Xbox will "die" though. Too much invested with Xbox Live accounts and such. We'll possibly see a future where Xbox releases consoles while also being multiplatform.

my thoughts exactly. That whole thing was the biggest nothing burger in years. Having said that, this is the beginning of the end for Xbox being its own thing. I wouldn’t be surprised if MS kills hardware in the next 10-15 years.

This isn’t unheard of. SEGA once put a Sakura wars game on the Gameboy color in 2000

They even made Sonic Pocket Adventure for the Neo Geo Pocket Color in 1999. You could argue that was a new Mainline Sonic game since Sonic Team worked on it unlike the Game Gear / Master System games that came before it and most handheld games/versions after it (mainly made by Dimps).

To be completely fair, that was just half a year before Sega would discontinue the Dreamcast and go third party. They also didn't have any other hardware to release games on. Sony too has MLB The Show on other consoles, but only out of contractual obligations.

I’m not sure if this counts or not, but Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice also came to Nintendo Switch long after Microsoft acquired Ninja Theory, too. The game was already on PS4 before Microsoft bought them, not not Switch.

Everyone needs to play Ori it is such a fantastic series and the soundtracks are phenomenal and it looks absolutely gorgeous on Steam Deck OLED, holy smokes :)

Blind Forest was good; but not that spectacular. But Will o Wisp is remarkable and it's one of my favorite Metroidvania alike game. I actually prefer them over Hollow Knight personally.

@@ben-tendo well if you only offer money and not games for a change then MS may not potentially allow it. It's MS who is in the best positition as they own Rare and get to decide what Rare games come to Nintendo. I do expect MS to be more flexible if Nintendo also is on this issue.

@@Yoshizuyuner Goldeneye wasn't necessarily owned by Nintendo (or MS) but in order for Nintendo to have DKC, Banjo-Kazooie and Diddy Kong Racing on Switch they absolutely need permission from MS. Nintendo never allows MS those same games except Banjo Kazooie and Tooie (which Nintendo owns 0%) to run on Xbox so this is all dependent on MS's willingness, and MS never receiving games in return.

Great video. I would love to see Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey come to other consoles. Rare Replay would be amazing. I loved New super Lucky Tale. I even did a let's play of it. Blue Dragon awakening shadow is impressive for the DS. The game has voice acting.

Loved VP:Pocket Paradise for the DS. Played it a few years ago after loving the 360 version and was shocked at how faithful it is. Obviously it doesn't look anywhere near as nice, but all the actual content from the original game is preserved. Surprisingly good conversion.

DKC3 actually got a whole other world in the gba version.

It’s the best of the DKC GBA remakes by far and the only one I’d recommend over its SNES counterpart, plus the new soundtrack is better than the OG as well.

On Wii virtual console they released Killer Instinct for SNES too, but they took it out years after.

'Xbox Exclusive' always had an asterisk next to it, since there was typically a PC port to go with it. But I suppose this is a fine list of games specifically ported to nintendo and sony platforms.

Maybe i'm really jumping the gun here, but the first age of empires DS game is famous for having a bug where if you put a name with 3 letters or less (like jon or GVG) the game basically bricks if you quit and save, granted if the you did it seems strange that the GVG saw the slowdown, unless you didn't play it for that long, but considering how once the bug became well known, the game was bundled with letters saying not to put 3 letters or less in your name, it wouldn't be surprising if it was just not that naturally optimized. 17:25 the DKC wii releases were later relisted in 2011/2012 i wanna say?

Golden Eye is arguably as mature (if not more) and that's on NSO. The game was straight up put on the index (alongside stuff like Manhunt or Postal) in Germany and technically forbidden to sell or show children until like 2021 (although it really isn't that violent nowadays and got rated T in America). In Japan you've got like the 18+ App for GoldenEye aswell. Nintendo really doesn't care too much with the Switch, they let like Soft-Porn on the eShop (Hentai Puzzle stuff), which you won't even find on Playstation.

It's pretty cool that Nintendo and Microsoft has always had a great relationship, even after the acquisition of Rare and their failed attempt to acquire Nintendo itself.

Of the four games they said they'll release on other platforms, two of them are community driven (which is in line with what Sony has already announced about their GaaS releases. But on Sony's case, they seem to release day one on Xbox) and two are smaller games trying to reach a larger audience and get a better ROI. So for 2 games, they will do what they have already been doing, and for the other two they will do what Sony has already announced they will do as well. However... according to some Sony diehards, Xbox is dead and Sony is king. Despite Sony dropping they forecast by 4M units, putting recently released hardware on sale 3 months after release, having no new games for 2024 and having not announced any new exclusive 1st party games since 2021. A love all three systems, but there's stuff to worry about in all three of them

DKC is entirely owned by Nintendo, Microsoft has no claim to them whatsoever and never have. Fine if you want to REALLY stretch MS "letting" Rare work on DKR on DS, but the wiiware rereleases have nothing to do with MS at all (or even Rare). Almost none of the games here were originally on xbox.
