These cars have a strange way of making you care about them. All of the quirks will become almost like a personality. Great work so far. Just know that you have an aero front end. The Westy golfs and jettas were produced from 85' to 86' in Westmoreland PA and featured a us spec sealed beam square 7x6" headlight and skinny door trim as well as a GM power distribution block.

i put my old Golf 1.6TD with Sb engine away in a barn for last 8 years, in case the fuel prises went bananas in the future reason - it runs great on waste cooking oil for 30 cents/l it runs 20km. So went to my friends barn, put charged battery in it, some coolant, fresh oil and fuel + filters. Even with no glowplugs it started up first try after only a few seconds on cranking. after a lot of black smoke it cleared up in a few minutes. Looking forward to the winter, love that car it will not die even if you try with poor fuel and neglect for 8 years

I'm thinking about when it dies i'll just replace the engine because 1,200-2,000 for a new engine beats buying a new car.

I had the same issue with that rock auto caliper on my 87 golf 1.6d. I ended up reusing the old slider pin, unfortunately you didnt have one to reuse lol. Also if I remember right, you hit the stalk for the rear wiper twice to make it swipe once. Pressing the stalk once keeps the wiper on. P.S I vote for keeping it stock!

I’m confused, the westy front end is the small square. This is a Jetta front end, right?
@godse5733 жыл бұрын
Yeah this isn't a traditional Westy headlight setup, although this is could still be a Westmoreland built car, since at the end of their production they put the common Aero setup that was on every NA car except GTI.

The guy who removed the breaks was smart. Weight reduction and you don't need them
@godse5733 жыл бұрын
Right off the bat, that's not a traditional "Westy" front end...it's just the base Aero setup almost everything in north america got. Looks like it is possibly a very late Westmoreland built car judging by the color and steering wheel, but there at the very end they put Aero's on all of them at that factory, probably cost saving. Quick check of the VIN, if it starts with "1VW" it's a true Westmoreland. Also on the 1.8 8v gas engines, which had a lot of different engine codes over the years, none of them were interference, so no worries there. Only thing else I'd do is clean electrical ground contacts, especially the for the ECU. It'll help with quirky issues you might have with idle, starting, etc. And hook a garden hose up to that heater core and flush it, if there's good coolant flow through that line you will BAKE in that car once it's up to temp!

Shit. I just bought a 92 accord that had sat for three years for 400 bucks. Threw a battery in it and it drove great. I had to fix a leaky sunroof replace the exhaust and thats it to drive. But im still working on making it leak free and run good lol. Had leaky valve seals and wore out shocks. Put my coilovers and wheels i had in it and threw on a rebuilt head i had (had it to put on the car in my profile pic but it got smashed) now it bogs hard when trying to get moving
