Well, I've had a 4000S Quattro non turbo for 10 plus years and it hasn't failed me except for a water pump. Best daily driver and winter beater having done more thousands of miles across country in 15 states. Please don't say they are bad cars. I think you went about it the wrong way. That adjustment screw on the fuel distributor is very sensitive and I think this is the reason you changed your fuel distributor. Your friend got it right. They are great cars

On the ke injection system you have the problem that the springs in the injectors weaken over time, which means they open early and longer than they are supposed to, wich means they run insanely rich, in Germany we change them every 100km km (64k miles)

The K-jet plunger falls down when the metering flap goes up, thereby allowing more fuel to pass. The frequency valve adjusts the control pressure by bleeding off the control pressure to the fuel return line. You really need to know what the control pressure is at the warm up regulator to even start tuning the fuel mixture

Had forgotten how sweet the 5 cyl sound is, 20:35 reminded me that. Unfortunately, these are all unobtanium level in Europe. Edited: reading some of the comments, a guy said these can be "somewhat" reliable. Had a 1986 100 2.2, eng. code KU (non turbo) for maybe 15 years, same K-Jetronic. At the end had the car parked for 3 years, then decided to sell - hooked up the battery and started from the second turn. No problems with fuel system EVER - except for installing a rebuilt fuel pump once, probably partly attributable to driving with low fuel constantly. Only problems were constantly leaking steering rack (even after rebuild) and non-behaving door latches. Sold to a gypsy for abt. 450 EUR who said he would be transporting potatoes with it on the field.

Been waiting for an update on this! I had very mild anxiety when I saw the fuel dizzy opened up :D. After owning these things for 20 years I never had to even dive that deep. In terms of the different fuel dizzy connections, I think the earlier turbo motors (KH) had the banjo fittings and later (MC1/MC2) had the ones like you have, but not 100% on the split. Either way, nice work! Excellent advice at the end. If you arent versed with CIS or have friends that arent, dont do it :). I love em and cant get enough!

I remember a family member and a buddy had one of these back in the day. I remember riding in my buddies audi and it did every bit of what was on the dash, I think like 150 or 160 mph easy, the gauge just kept going. I just remember looking at the speedo wondering where it was gonna top out at. Family member I remember it driving really nice but the trans went out on it later on but the repair place probably botched it. Notorious for problems that and VW quantum same engine I think. Use what ever spark plug it came with check all the vacuum lines, and the coolant was some what temperamental but easy to bleed. Keep it I never see these anymore.

The key words, the car is 35 years old, the fuel system is 35 years old! CIS is awesome when taken care of, the newer fuels demands the CIS fuel distributors be rebuilt, and new injectors installed, pumps filters O rings etc. The type 44 5000's/100/200 are getting hard to find now they have achieved classic/vintage status by now, be prepared to find them really beat down however headed for the yard 99% of the time, finding a better example is probably really hard at best impossible for a decent price, but worth it if your not having to constantly fixing broken stuff, with that in mind choose your Audi's wisely .... lol

You need to get basic guide for ke-jetronic operation. Don't touch the mass flow sensor (toilet bowl), don't touch the distributor, they never fail, dont touch the pivot. Replace all the vacuum hoses. ECU adjusts fuel pressure according to lambda. Repair the auxiliary air valve on top of the cam cover.

When they’re running good it’s nice there’s nothing like them especially with a 1.9 bar chip…. Nothing like it at all. sounds like the brake service chime is beeping. Sounds much better with the stock fuel distributor and injectors

I disagree...buy old audis!! Great In The snow, comfy and always blazing hot heat. You learn how to work on it as you go haha

If you want something similar in looks but with more power, a 5 cylinder turbo, and vastly better reliability go with the Audi 200 20v quattro.

Next winter, buy a Volvo 850. Much easier to work on and still that nice 5 cylinder sound.

I'm damn stick of seeing videos of Corvette, Mustang and Camaro. I bought a 2004 Golf from a police impound for $800. The engine was locked up, the heater core was bad and the inside was mildewed really bad. I paid a shop $4,000 to install a used engine and fix the heater core. I paid another shop $4,100 to fix the sunroof and install a new interior. I replace the rotors and pads and replace a lot of suspension parts.

Does it has a fuel check valve, frequency valve, and fuel accumulator? I know my e21 with the CIS has 2 pumps, plus an accumulator to keep pressure at the Fuel Distributor

The amount of components that one of these CIS cars have and have to have to work correctly is kind of mind-boggling!!

@@oliverjantz1108 yeah, but almost all the ancillaries are mechanical, so they last a very long time. The main problem with the CIS are vacuum leaks, which cause the system to go lean or rich, and people adjusting the mixture screw atop the FD...
