Had this kit as a kid, remember buying it after Christmas with my Christmas card money. I also had a picnic table for building and playing on, Darkies Mob from the Battle comic was my inspiration at the time.

I loved this kit and the Desert Outpost and Strongpoint sets. My modelmaking and wargaming journey started with these and the Battlefront sets. Used to put all the vac-formed pieces together to make up the battlefield.

Hi Jason. Nice presentation of this Airfix kit. A kit that I also had as a child and it should still exist in a box, slightly damaged. I think you will make a great model out of it and the accessories will refine it all a lot. I wish you much fun with this build, back to the earlier days. Greetings, Joachim

You've got lucky Jason! Not only you've grabbed a vintage kit, that you've got happy memories from, you've got two of them. With all the extras you've got, it should be a wonderful project. Thanks for sharing, take care and keep up the good work my friend.

What a great little kit. Fantastic subject matter. Would be interesting to do them in different climates. One in sweltering, dry heat and one in pouring rain and mud. You have so much additional foliage it's too bad the bases weren't a little larger. Dammit, now I want one!
@markroberts7328 Жыл бұрын
What you must remember in those days was there was very little in the way of extra bit to add realism to a model until this and the forward command post were issued by Air fix these to kits opened up the better detail models to us kid's in those days Gun emplacements ,Bailey Bridge ,Pontoons bridge .landing craft etc etc

I'm looking forward to your build. One point, HO scale is 1/87th scale, OO scale is 1/76th scale, which is why so much of their military modeling was 1/76 scale, because Airfix did model trains at the same time and you could use their Railroad line and military kits together. Later on they claimed their kits were 1/72nd scale, but they really are 1/76th. Airfix also did 1/76 scale Japanese Infantry figures, just understand they're a softer plastic. Woodland Scenics also does a couple of different sized palm trees. The Tank that Airfix does/did is the Chi-ha , Fujimi also did kits in 1/76th scale, they not only did the Chi Ha, but also did a self propelled gun variant called a Ha-Go.
@ModelkitStuff2 жыл бұрын
funny how they can just change the scale by simply a new box! I guess they decide the are all very small or very tall lol
@randytaylor12582 жыл бұрын
The only problem they have is when you're dealing with fixed dimensions. Vehicles, aircraft, rifles, etc. have actual dimensions, while figures, trees, animals, etc. vary in real life. It's not so noticeable in the small scales but it certainly is in 1:35 and 1:32/54 mm. Interesting that you chose to keep thr Japanese format and not use British or Australian figures though hard styrene is printable and the soft Airfix vinyl figures are not so useful. Really looking forward to this project. Cheers!

@@ModelkitStuff 1/72nd is a more standard/popular scale so marketing them as 1/72nd made it more salable outside the U.K. and Commonwealth Nations.

I love this Jason, love that old Airfix box art. They really knew how to get your imagination going back in the 70's. Can't wait to see you build this, looks like you'll have great fun with it and all the extras you've got. I remember my older brother and I getting the big Waterloo kit one Xmas and of course he couldn't wait and just stuck it all together but we did have loads of fun playing with that.

Looks like this is going to be good. I had a later re-issue of this kit and obtained an after-market vac formed base. I've still to put it together but the base looks OK and have used similar for the Airfix Forward Command Post. Being vac formed you need to add a base for some additional support. Like the tank idea and all the additional foliage.

Hi Jason, That is such a cool kit! You were very lucky to find one. And getting two bases in one box, what are the odds of that happening. It sounds like you have thought of everything. It should be a very busy diorama when you get it done. It would be cool if you could add some kind of Easter egg, like a python hiding in some unexpected place or a big spider. Those jungles were full of surprises! Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Jeff

Happy birthday.A very nice kit indeed.Pure nostalgia that's what it is.Should look superb as the finished unit.A very nice item for the gaming table.Yes you should buy a tank for your Nippon forces.The storage hut you could put on the other base or part of the base.I have the Airfix 1:32 bamboo hut here to build.I am presently build the 1:32 strong point by Airfix.A similar thing I am doing alsorts to improve the model.A very enjoyable video looking forward to seeing your progress.Very kind to get the full refund.🐻🤗👍
