Hot cues are all about patterns, I love having a consistent theme to each one. A- Intro/1st beat B- 8 bars before drop C- 16 bars before drop, or beginning of the breakdown after the intro D- Drop E- End drop F- Flex (for me it's often the 2nd drop, but it's used for anything I.E. moving the song from one place to another) G- Loop (G looks like a loop to me) H- Outro I also like setting memory cues 8 bars before the end of a drop and 8 bars before the 2nd drop.

I just do multiples of 16 before and after the drop. I also colour code them for fast recognition of how many phrases before the drop it is at.

Just something to note regarding old kit, the 2000 NXS and 2000 actually only have support for 3 Hot Cues, Hot Cues 4-8 will not show on the waveform - if you want your tracks to be old-kit-friendly the way to go is setting memory cues rather than or as well as hot cues!

Yep deffo one to watch out for!

amazing! when I started watching your vids I found my way on getting only 3 hot cues and several memory cues. memory on each part of the track AKA start, breakdown, build-up, drop, breakdown, etc. but with hot cues, I had eight of them, thanks to having DDJ-1000, it was very good and easy way to jump to several points of the track, but when I went on CDJs, it got a bit harder with the limitations of having fewer hot cues and sometimes it took too long to find and click, so I got inspired by your video on DDJ-1000 and overall being CDJ ready and have only 3 Hot Cues, 1 for breakdown, 1 for buildup and 1 for drop. you helped me a lot! ty for this:)

Been a bedroom DJ for a while and never really watched many videos on "proper" cue points. How I have all 4,000 plus tracks cued is 8bar into, build up, drop, breakdown, build up, drop, 8bar outro. This allows me do do basic intro/outro mixes, drop swaps and outro/breakdown mixes. The latter being if I want to mix half tracks to get more tracks in. This always seemed the most logical and efficient for me. But I have zero proper training so...

There’s no right or wrong way to do it really, everyone is different. But it’s fun to experiment with new approaches every now and then to see if they can work for you
@kennethmalafy8012Ай бұрын
You don't listen to the track and apply the points organically? The first thing I do is give the track a good listen then apply points. If you looked at my tracks the cues would be in all different places but it would be based directly on the track they were applied. Sometimes the beginning of the song is the strong point, sometimes the end.
@phildottАй бұрын
I use it exactly this way :) I just use cue points as marks for the best parts to mix in a current song, which depends on the song itself
@alainchristian4 күн бұрын
@@phildott I hope that works for you. I think having a uniform cue point system will take you a lot farther than random cue points on each song. I'm not going remember the cues of thousands of songs without a proper system. I USED to be random but that was limiting.
@phildott3 күн бұрын
@ Well, I hope your way works for you too! :) It heavily depends on the style of music. In a typical 4/4 club music, your approach should work very well. I DJ electronic music leaning more towards pop than house, so there can be an unusual break lasting 2-4 bars between sections. In this case a uniform cue point system (like 1st one always at beat 1, 2nd one after 32 beats etc.) wouldn't work, cause the songs themselves don't have a strict, bar-dependent arrangement system.
@alainchristian3 күн бұрын
@@phildott but there are breaks. There’s drops. Outros. Buildups to the drop. You get the idea. There is uniformity.
@phildott3 күн бұрын
@@alainchristian In that sense, you're right. But how I approach it, is that I'm only gonna play what I think are the best parts of a song. In that case, I'm not marking every single section "just in case I want to play it one day". While you might view it as random in terms of organization, I think it's actually very practical for my needs. I just pick a mix spot from only a few cues and I know that it'll be solid. What do you think?

Hi Chris On Rekordbox, if you have both decks loaded up with tracks that both have set cue points. Is there a setting on the software that if deck 1 is playing a track and hits cue A of that track, it will automatically start Cue A of the track on deck 2?

Actually there is a rather confusing and lesser known feature called Mix Point Link, which does exactly what you’re asking. I own a FLX10 and it’s a feature that I tried to make work but it’s just not good
