I love this conversation. I love Dan Siegel and I have read many of his books. I totally agree with his approach. But I respectfully like to point out that the book hold on to your kids is saying pretty much the same things that Dan is saying… relationships, parental presence, home base and safe secure attachments. Also, the focus of Dr. Neufeld on whose theory the book is written is kids from 0-6 years so holding on during the early developmental years. I do love Dr Neufeld’s work as well and see harmony in the work of both these leading attachment-based-development researchers-Dr Siegel and Dr Neufeld.

This is a great conversation. So comprehensive and to-the-point at the same time. Mr. Siegel is great at explaining his points, and you've done a great job in leading the interview. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Outstanding. Thank you so much for this excellent interview! So many of us parents need exactly this kind of encouragement. Dan does an amazing job teaching parents that self-compassion is essential in parenting so we can actually see with clarity where we mess up as parents, then come back on line to "show up" for our kids and engage the 4 S's.

Thank you for asking about that securely attached figure, it's always bothered me for exactly the same reason.

Hello Jason, You mentioned a blog article, written by Ellen, about over attachment with children. Where can I find that article?

They were not having face to face time, where the relationships that they could have, would change the way the brain develops that have to deal with language acquisition, awareness of the inner world of oneself, awareness of the inner world of others, and it’s that inner awareness of self and others, that firm the basis of being compassionate, empathic and kind, of being self-aware, of having what you call an internal compass. Those gadgets are keeping us not connected with one another, and it’s the connections with one another, that builds the connections in the brain, that is the source of resilience.

Hi, I have a question, we recently flew and at the airport my 2 yr old threw many tantrums because he wanted to run around and see everything and see everyone etc but not everyone likes that and we had to pull him away from areas and it was very stressful so we said "next time we should bring a tablet." What do you suggest? I feel like airports and airplanes are becoming anti kid spaces. Everyone was staring at us and we felt really judged. Thanks for the help!
