These days, we hear a lot about fasting. Intermittent fasting, time-restricted eating, and water fasting are just some of the many terms being thrown around in support of better health. Which one is best? What does it all mean for our longevity, brain health, and overall wellness?⁣

On today’s Broken Brain Podcast, our host Dhru talks to Dave Asprey, the founder and Chairman of Bulletproof 360, a high-performance coffee and food company, and creator of the widely-popular Bulletproof Coffee. He is a three-time New York Times bestselling author, host of the Webby award-winning podcast Bulletproof Radio, and has been featured on the Today show, Fox News, Nightline, CNN, and dozens more. Over the last two decades Dave, the “Father of Biohacking,” has worked with world-renowned doctors, researchers, scientists, and global mavericks to uncover the latest, most innovative methods, techniques, and products for enhancing mental and physical performance. ⁣

Dhru and Dave dive deep into the topic of fasting and longevity. They talk about how fasting can troubleshoot our biology, boost our energy, and decrease our risk of disease. They also discuss how there is no one-size-fits-all approach to fasting, how to avoid the fasting trap, and biohacks for making fasting less painful, more pleasurable, and above all more enriching.

I really like your style of interviewing, Dhru. You ask really intelligent questions, you’re a a great listener, ( you don’t interrupt), and your input is thought- provoking and eye-opening. Thank you! I’ve listened to many interviews on health, and this isn’t always the case. I appreciate your way. ☺️

'If everyone is in a nursing home...'. I live in rural France. I've neighbours who still run their vines and farms aged 90+. And they're not stooped, not cognitively deficient and many still hunt and work 16 hr days. They eat everything, wouldn't know keto or fasting if it bit them on the nose. They live life!

Not true. Not everyone in France lives into their 90’s I have seen obese people in France. They eat a lot of bread 🥖 and drink bear 🍺 cider 🍺 and wine a lot! Hunt at the age of 90 lol 😂

As a christian prophet I stumbled into fasting late in life I had never heard of it because nobody preacged it n they still dontt. That is where the power comes from as in going from glory to glory is infilling to infilling of the poower of God and for the longest time I didnt unbderstand that either that I was growing in power. Because shortly afterwards woud come a dream or visiion. And they didnt always make sens so I kept a note book so I could keep track of them n compare notes. I didnt know anything of what to expect I looked at it as an experiment in fastinglike ascientist colledting data.

In the sixties and seventies we called fasting “getting into yourself”! We would go camp or hike and fast..amazing that it’s so new again. So appreciate hearing this in a new scope

I dont hate. I dont even understand hate. It isnt smart. You describe it as a drive (the cookie) or an addiction. I missed that and I am so glad I did. Empathy, if that is thinking/feeling I can help another (mother for instance) by feeling I can help them by experiencing their pain is something I can understand. I have seen myself work on that state of equanimity, different from compassion. My understanding is -in some way- that does help.

For those of us who have successfully been intermittently fasting for some time (a year or more) plus occasional 3 to 5 day fasts, what is the next level?
@ernestgibbs7384
@ernestgibbs7384 3 жыл бұрын
Jason Stanley - I've been intermittent fasting for 10 years - 8 hour eating window with 1 or 2 days OMAD, as per Brad Pilon's book Eat, stop, Eat. Last couple of years I've been doing OMAD (One Meal a Day) Monday to Friday and having lunch and dinner in the weekends, experimenting with increase in HGH and testosterone from a fasted state after 18-22 hours or more, with some amazing results, out performing guys in fitness and strength who are half my age - just turned 66. Every month this year I've done a 3 day water fast - although still also experimented in some fasts with taking my liquid nutritional supplements. Got this idea of 3 day water fast monthly from Dr Peter Attia but last year, aside from the OMAD, I didn't have a fast every month but I did do a couple of 5 day fasts spaced out. I've been fasting on and off since I was 30 and have done a 30 day and a 40 day fast. So if you're already doing what you say you are, you should be good. What's next level? Wherever the Spirit is leading you. You're doing what 99% of people aren't willing to do, even if they know the benefits of fasting. As my brand goes: Live Forever or Die Trying....All the best

So to me all of this physiological stuff is interesting as hell because I assumed it was spiritual not physiological! Because it wAS ALL NEW TO ME BUT i EXPERIENCED everything Dr Jason fung described in his bookssimilar to the christiqan walk of fasting and prayer its not an easy message to preach as even looking at the numbers of pewople who reject it for real pjysical reasons kind of helps you realize not everybody will respect this type of message right off the bat! Sure they like to worship in the real presence of God when one of us truely anointed thype show up to worshipbut there is a price to pay for that anointing and its not just reading and studying a book!

Dhru ~ don't knock the old "raw" podcasts! ~ I still have some on my ipod if it will still turn on. If it weren't for you interviewing David Wolfe & Daniel V etc I would have never found you so they must have been responsible for a substantial increase in your audience. That time period was filled with Lots of AmAzing info & really the beginning of many health "Superheroes" still going strong such as Superfoods & herbs & mushrooms and Natural Spring Water / "raw" water ... Sacred Chocolate Parties - come on! This was a great interview but I cringed when you spoke of "erasing" every recording from that raw vegan high point. It still has great merit & like one of you said, (basically) done wisely & shorter-term it can be profound on multiple levels. Sad to hear you be ashamed of it. Re-Think!!

I find Dave extremely awkward and irritating. There's a way to state your opinion without coming off like you're so deeply impressed with yourself. He just doesn't look healthy, and has emotional affects like he fried his amygdala with all the "biohacking". His products are super expensive for what they are. Ugh
