In my 20s I decided to eat well, take vitamins, exercise .... I've made this huge investment in myself from a young age with the thought that I'd be happy I did by the time I reached 60. Well, I'm over 60 now and it has paid off, and with talks like this and learning about intermittent fasting, keto, insulin resistance, better exercise/training, I've decided to UP the game. I do not listen to naysayers .... they are downers and not part of the solution. Most people think I'm in my 40s. That is not my genes or random. Do not think or do as the "world" does and the benefits are tremendous. THANK YOU for this great talk!!

I am 62, now, but am still told I look in my 40's. Happy as !! I agree we can reverse our age of physical and mental ability. I was told by a orthopedic doctor "unfortunately my muscles were similar to the ones of age of 85 years old" after 8 months on bed. I was 41 years old at that time. I slowly trained myself and ate wisely, then I became well enough to go to Mt. Everest base camp in 2018 and I can do more mountain trails. Overweight Kids should be exercising1-3 hrs everyday, The exception: My neighbor Does fine fasting Twice a month, But he's been a long distance runner F 40 yrs. And. Maintains a body weight of 150 lbs. He's 78 now. So fasting is fine f him!! In moderation. Because , R always hungry Especially after a 8 to 15 mile run. Fasting isn't necessary, F people who are healthy. By the way, The Japanese live the longest And follow a high Fish ,vegetable, Moderate carbs and protein diet.....b. I wanted to thank you and Dr. Sinclair for this. My mother is in her 70s and has never taken care of her body. She smoked and drank for around/over 45 years and never did physical excersize or ate with any kind of nutrition in mind. After several surgeries and a lupus diagnosis she's been declining quite rapidly - no energy, pain depression etc. None of her many doctors seemed able to do anything that helped. I was watching this podcast and my mother happened to call crying because she felt "like she was fading away and wasn't going to wake up one morning" - I asked her if she'd be willing to try taking a couple of supplements every day for a few weeks to see if that would help. We ordered some NMN and reversitrol and she started taking it. Within a few days she started feeling better. A week in she could do basic stuff around the house that she hadn't been able to do for years. All this without feeling dizzy during and exhausted afterwards (which any sort of basic movement did for her). My mom is insisting that this protol has saved her life, which may be hyperbolic but it is huge for her and I'm so grateful that I found your podcast and this information. I'm now reading Dr. Sinclair's book and will be incorporating some of the supplements into my own life.

I realized I don’t need a “doctor” to tell me what I need to worry about and do something about. I bought a blood glucose monitor and started testing to learn what foods do to my blood glucose (no doctor ever even suggested to do that), lost 20 pounds, and started watching a bunch of YT videos. I now get my own test via Everlywell…last A1C was 5..6 and it’s going to get lower because I’m now on a low carb diet and also fasting and that seems to work. Also order other lab tests through Life Extension or directly through LabCorp and Quest. I’m sorry to say this, but I feel going to a GP is complete waste of my time and money. What I have to pay for a copay for a visit, I can get 2-3 tests on my own from the lab directly! If there’s a problem, I’ll consult with a specialist. There’s enough information available now for the layperson, that for those who have the ability to read and evaluate the knowledge, what is the point of going to these general doctors who just go through the motions!

Teaching yoga has further elevated me to a new level of satisfaction and challenge.

The tendency of the medical establishment to only want to treat illness, rather than to promote wellness and longevity is the fundamental reason I rarely engage with the healthcare system in the USA. I got tired of my dr always wanting to put me on treatment medication instead of helping me prevent deterioration in the first place. It proves that the incentive is toward making money and not promoting wellness, so I have decided to take my health and longevity into my own hands, by following the research that people like Dr. Sinclair are doing. Since I started fasting, exercising and taking a few high quality supplements (multivitamin, ubiquinol, fish oil, d3, k2, niacin, magnesium), my health has turned around 180 degrees. I am the same age as Dr. Sinclair (52) and I feel far healthier with more vitality than I did at 40...and I haven't been to see a dr in nearly 10 years. I am planning to add resveratrol and nmn to my supplement regimen, but I am still researching which supplier to go with. I also plan to start getting annual blood testing so I can have that feedback to add to my box of tools. I am looking forward to 100 years!

I've now been fasting for 3 months, and am practicing exaclty what he is: I fast 18-19 hours, have all of my calories between 6 and 10pm. I feel excellent all day long. My big frustration: I've always very much trusted Dr. Sears, but he strongly argues against intermittent fasting! I need a live debate between Dr. Sears and David Sinclair - MAKE IT HAPPEN! :) - Thanks for posting this.

Nice conversation! At around 1h (1:01:00) there is an interesting question being asked to which I don’t feel the answer really nails is. The general advice towards fighting sarcopenia is to increase the protein intake, to which David agrees, but then he recommends eating protein with low amounts of leucine (and low MTOR therefor). This is where I get puzzled, as the literature at the moment does seem to suggest leucine is required in order to stimulate muscle protein sintesis, otherwise it does not happen. There is of course leucine in plants, that’s not the contradiction, but how to reduce leucine and still build muscle is not really explained.
@barbarafairbanks45782 жыл бұрын
Christian Andreica - you are correct. Nevermind that the question about protein for muscle mass was not addressed factually, either. Unfortunately, Dr. S appears to be mTOR phobic. (Sounds to me like he'd like to eliminate it altogether bc of his belief that mTOR promotes growth, and therefore 'aging', as well. Anyhow, his answer to Dr. Rangan's questions about (where do you get your protein to help with muscle mass)....he gave the standard, misleading, IMO... vegan answer - plant protein! All plants contain protein! (True on the face of it, but look deeper and we find that leucine (being the key that unlocks mTOR) is not sufficiently high enuf to stimulate muscle protein synthesis. E.g., under 2.5g Leucine in a ONE meal 'event', and the mTOR switch remains OFF. Nevermind the fact that most plant 'protein' is lacking in bioavailability, compared to animal protein Add to this the fact that we need to increase our protein intake (quality... i.e. animal protein), as we age just to try to keep up with the 1-2% loss/year of muscle mass after the age of 25. AND... that muscles also slowly lose the ability to synthesize protein as we age. Granted, intense exercise - specifically 'lifting' also helps to stimulates mTOR. In my view, though, we need both - higher (animal) protein intake and a good weight-lifting program to stave off sarcopenia and bone loss as we age.

I also think that a persons mind can control many abilities in our bodies . For example as a child I was often sick or had colds etc . But because I disliked that "sick feeling" so much I think that I was able to program my physical body/mind to refuse to accept it. Being able to control your own mind and "mind set " was something I was able to subconsciously control because I did not like being sick. To this very day I can not remember being " sick " from a common cold , I programmed my self to not need a covid 19 shot , etc . For some reason my body automatically was fasting and I never even knew I was doing it. I do enjoy staying active without even realizing I do it. Perhaps it is part genetic .Soon I will be 57 years old and work with teenagers that act or preform in their life like they are in their forties. I do not think I am " special " . I actually damage my body a lot or this planet does it for me. But my mind does not accept what I do to it. I watched only 46 minutes of this video and believe in the " science " behind your research . If you ask me how long I want to live my answer is probably 80 physical years . I think that we as a human race are destroying ourselves and the planet at the same time we are trying to fix the problems , because many of our implemented institutions that society sets in place are programmed by those very thought patterns . As a race we seem to weaken our will to even want to see any further down the line in the future. I am not a negative person. I enjoy many things. Mentally , physically and spiritually. It is a planned obsolescence . Whether or not we build it or live it . Our diet has a lot to do with it too. Our produce , meat and everything and anything we put into our body is getting worse . That includes music , air quality , the cell phone connected to every hand when I see strangers walking down the street, our water and oceans . Sorry this comment was so long. Take care and keep up the good work.

@unholyquail45603 жыл бұрын
@@michalarkalion I do take NMN from time to time (after stressfull periods where I couldn't maintain a proper diet and exersize routine). I get it from "donotage". Which are up to the European supplement standards and quality control. Which is the highest standard we have on the globe. So you know what is in it, is really in it. Funny enough Sinclair has been moving towards my routine more and more (see his instragram post about Serena Poon), so I feel like he is following my diet now? haha. I am fully plant based (Whole Food Plant based diet based on the Broad study in 2017, The China study, Blue zone studies and the work of Neil Barnard, Colin Cambell and Michael Greger). So no animal products no refined products, nothing that adds more damage than repair really. Also I keep my fats to around 20% and protein around 40-50 grams based on my weights and muscle mass. I supplement with B12, Vit D and Omega 3 EPA 125 + DHA 250 algea oil. With it I use creatine monohydrate in my yoghurt because it is really demanding on your body to make it yourself. The diet is so good in glucose control I do not need metformine in my opinion. Furthermore I make sure my diet has a hyper nourishment element to it. I get all Recommended daily intake and more of vitamine and minerals after Bruce Ames his triage theory suggesting RDA only keeps your primary usage in check but does not lend itself to support secondary and tertiary systems (already proven in Vit D and Vitamine K). With it I make sure I get enough sulphoraphane (100 gram of brocoli sprouts) for a better NRF2 function. With it 100 gram of blueberries for the (low) therapeutical dosage of Quercitin and 12 grams of dried parsley for the therapeutical dosage (based on weight) for Fisetin. Just blend it up and drink it with some avocado for the oleic acid and flax seed for more omega 3 and voilá!. No supplements required it is all found in nature and absorbed well.

I got to say that I switched from eating your almost normal three meals a day. Basically, often skipped breakfast but I still would eat something small or drink something that would break a fast. Fast. I went right into doing a 20-hour intermittent fasting window and I also worked from the AM till the p.m. in a restaurant. Which absolutely did add a little bit extra difficulty. But it was only really difficult from the last 2 hours of the window while I'm smelling all this food being cooked. As far as lack of energy, I had absolutely no lack of energy. I had more energy. And I actually started this while I was working 12 hours a day outside in the southwest Florida heat. And I was working in a restaurant. The one thing I had going for me though is eating. Just a dinner was relatively what I did already. I just had to get strict with not allowing any snacks or sodas in such things. Luckily I like tea so it was easily replaced by matcha green tea and English breakfast black tea. It really wasn't that hard though and in about 6 months I lost 70 lb. Now this is because I was doing the physical labor I was doing at work coupled with an hour routine at the gym every day. I didn't drop all that just fasting. But I did all that without ever noticing a decrease in energy. In fact there was an absolute increase in energy. My sleep and rest got a million times better. The trick was to take a wide range of things that I enjoy eating and basically set out a buffet for myself at the end of every night. This made it so much easier to have a buffet of food to choose from and snack at once. My eating window took effect. This way it mentally satiated me.

She died from metastasized bone cancer at the age of 58. She looked 36 even when she was battling cancer. What I mean is, genetic plays a huge role. Nurses at hospital would ask questions like..."Are you pregnant, miss?" To then realize she was almost 60 and their jaw would drop amazed at how young a beautiful she looked, she didn't even look like she was on stage 4 cancer.

I started intermittent fasting (skipping my breakfast), but I will not skip 2 of 3 meals. I have lunch, snack and then dinner. I just love to eat. I can´t imagine eating only once a day, life has to be enjoyed after all, and I´d rather not be 100 years old and looking back at a life full of deprivation, fasting, sleep optimisation, dinner cancelling, no wine, no beer, etc. Many members of my family died in their 90ies, they never fasted, they ate what they liked, but they were all growing up under calorie restriction due to war and poverty and basically ate a pesticide-free organic diet during the first 40 years of their lives.

Nobody is asking you to quit everything and live in misery. The key is moderation. Someone can have an opinion that "I have only one life, I'll drink whole day, smoke weed and enjoy it". Well, that's one way to live of course
@andrereyes23073 жыл бұрын
The point of all this is being healthier in your later years. For many people, living into your 80’s and 90’s takes an immense amount of care by others and your body is shutting down. This might not be the case for your family, but thats what the point is. You dont have stop enjoying life, these are just small things you can do.
@christophdenner88783 жыл бұрын
@@andrereyes2307 Sure, this is of course true. I think the message here is moderation, avoiding the biggest mistakes with respect to diet, and a smart use of supplements. This is achievable. But there is still also genetics playing a big role. My grand-aunt is holding the age record in my family, she died at 99, and has been quite fit until into her mid 90ies, and almost no mental decline. I have never seen her on a diet ever, she was even slightly overweight all her life and ate what she wanted (quite fat traditional diet). But she was born 1918 during the war and into a poor family, growing up in total poverty. Calorie restriction early in life, a mostly organic diet and not a single piece of junk food during all her life. Our lives are just so different from this generation, difficult to compare.

Here's a humble theory... I took my Rottie to the vet for his annual check-up, and the vet said he is in incredible shape, but he could stand to lose a couple pounds. I cut back his food by 25%, and what happened next seems to conform with what Sinclair says. The dog eats outside, and in response to a decrease in his daily meat supply, he began eating grass and greens like a starving goat. In other words, the dog's natural response appeared to be to supplement his diet to get a feeling of satiation with huge amounts of greens. Dr. Sinclair says our bodies' responses to starvation are millions or even billions of years old. If a meat-eating animal's natural response to "starvation" is to eat mass amounts of greens, could it not be that after millions of years, our bodies have been taught that getting greens is associated with a shortage of food, and thereby stimulates the production of the stress hormones that prolong life? To put it another way, the greens stimulate the hormones and the "healthy" content of the greens is less a factor than the body interpreting that we have turned to greens as a sign that things are not going well on the food front. Eating greens is genetically a signal of bad times ahead. Just a thought.

I am 64 and cycle 450km per week & can easily do 200km & have done 400km as a single ride. My diet is similar to David Sinclair's & my improvement in life generally is a joy. What amazes me about the sedentary comforts of Western Life is that people struggle to do 2 hours of moderate effort per week. The few Times that I've had medical checkups, my Doctors have wanted to admit me for my resting pulse of 46. Medical institutions have forgotten what normal good health is. I work as a Nurse and patients with BP's of 130/80 are considered "normal". The Health field has compromised on the basic health guidelines, as an example: 10,000 steps per day is a poor health parameter.

One of the best interviews with David Sinclair...Thank you.. It seems to me though that when it comes to future predictions of how much lifespan can be extended he can not speak freely in public..I m sure privetly he expects much more..

Even if most people don't believe longevity, they should still support it coz in fact we just have one life after all. Living up to a hundred and being still healthy is beyond priceless. I'm up for Dr. Sinclair's NMN supplementation. It's hard to prove something if you don't experience it yourself. Thanks to Vitruvin Health supplementation, I'll never have to worry about aging and the age-linked illnesses.

I’m sure his take on eat less meat and more vegan diet can make you live longer works for some people but here’s the thing, majority of people have gut permeability and imbalance of microbiome that can’t be fixed with just eat vegetables. In fact many people will feel worse eating a mainly vegetarian diet because they can filter out the toxins from plants, including bloating, constipation, dermatitis and joint pain worsen from eating certain plant based food. This is why so many people do well on the carnivore diet, eliminating all their health issue. Choosing between a state of constant inflammation and live longer versus no inflammation feeling great but shorter, I know I’d rather live slight shorter live but feeling great. Let’s put it in context as well, being on Keto or Carnivore diet will promote longevity compared to the standard western diet anyways. Due to fact you’re cutting out sugar and highly processed food. Perhaps by cutting out processed food, sugar and any food that will cause inflammation to the “individual” will make anybody live longer. Just a thought.

My family lineage on both sides regularly produces octogenarians, nonagenarians, and centenarians. Vegetarians are extremely rare! My meat-eating paternal grandmother died just before her 105th birthday. On my mother's side, the record was her great-grandfather who made it to 108. My DNA results show an extraordinary cluster of genes for extended longevity. I'm 62 and an omnitarian. I'm doing very nicely, thank you, and am usually taken to be in my late 40s. I have few wrinkles and few grey hairs. Humans aren't clones!

This guy is sinister. He has a satanic vibe about him. Gene therapy to become non human gmo no thank you

But I see his point that there probably is not one path, one way, one dietary habit that determines/guarantees longevity...

MY MAN... You win KZbin for having the absolute MOST ads squeezed into your show. While I was trying to listen to this interview while multitasking - there were 5 different ad interruptions in a matter of 14 minutes. I appreciate your need to monetize but I can't even get to the content without getting inundated with ADs. So much so that while multi-tasking I ended up 30 minutes into a freaking ad/commerical. I now know EVERYTHING I need to know about TAAS - Transportation As A Service - it's still going and appears to be only halfway through LOL. So what did I learn? More about an ad than anything you had to say. Good thing I already follow David Sinclair and the many other KZbinrs w/ high quality interviews who don't inundate and ruin their content with so.many.freakin.ads.

If you go into your advertisement management tool and uncheck all the boxes, you'll get only the standard two adverts at the beginning of each show.

Crossing my fingers for the joint trials. As a person with osteoarthritis I've been told that I can't even get an mri in the area as I've been diagnosed with oa only thing I can do is a hip replacement...seems barbaric and is definitely ageism. Just think of the change in longevity with just getting seniors mobile again. Current medicine is really disappointing
