In this episode of the Style POV podcast, host Gabrielle Arruda guides listeners through the four stages of developing a personal style: preparation and exploration, incubation, illumination, and verification. Gabrielle explains how each stage involves unique processes, from gathering relevant information about body design and analyzing wardrobe preferences to the subconscious sifting of ideas, achieving 'aha' moments, and finally refining style choices through practice. The episode emphasizes creativity as a universal trait and stresses the importance of patience and evolution in cultivating a style that is authentic and true to oneself.

Thanks for this episode! I got some wide-legged jeans today, I've known that that style suits me more than cropped styles (although those are ok too) but it felt like a really big step to take. It's like, when I wear things that suit me, I become more visible in the world. And I wanted to be invisible for a long time. Slowly getting used to both comfort AND style, without diminishing myself by trying to look more "cutesy". Personal style IS part of personal power.

I totally agree with this! And I relate to wanting to be invisible for awhile, but it truly is empowering when you find your style expression

Ooh, I love a good workflow! I feel like there have been many mini-cycles in my journey ... revisiting and swapping out the tools (realizing that, yes, my shoes do matter was a major a-ha moment). After you and Rita, Daria Andronescu is another favorite style expert. Similarly, she emphasizes personal expression over trying to fit a certain image.

You're so right about incubation! I find this as a writer - even if I can make an outline quickly it will just take a period of months of letting the story sit in my subconscious before the voice for it "clicks", and I always struggle if I try to rush this process. I often feel discouraged in my style journey, where I feel like I've been incubating and never made it to verification for a few years. But if i look at the actual style goals I've had and new things i've learned, I've come a long way. I really needed the reminder that there is no true end - the journey is the journey! As to sharing your videos - i promise I'm making my friends watch these whether they want to or not!

Yes, sometimes we need that time for our brains to "figure it out" on it's own. I mean that's why our best ideas come when we are on a walk or in the shower. You just allow a little bit of space and it all suddenly clicks

I feel like I have been in the preparation process way too long. I was color analyzed wrongly and it really threw me off and cost me both time and money. I hate that so many color analysts don’t recognize hair color correctly. Red is not always warm, in fact red is 0 degrees neutral on the color wheel and can tip both ways and in my case it tips cool but the person who did my analysis was a die hard believer that if your hair had any red you are warm. No, turns out I am a True Summer and very happy to be back in my cool colors. Now to rebuild my wardrobe with the right things.😅

Yes sometimes the preparation stage does drag out. I think it's super important to study the system that a potential analyst uses before booking because there are tons of different theories and how they apply them might not work for you or resonate. Glad you eventually found your season

Another great podcast! Your videos and workbook have had a major impact on my daily style and enjoyment of clothing. I feel like I’ve reached the illumination phase in a lot of ways, but I’m also heading back into preparation to revise my wardrobe to include more professional options. It’s hard to really identify a specific stage bc I do resonate with the “it’s a journey, not a destination” philosophy. I’ve reached a point where I’m content with my style, but also accepted (and excited) that I’ll keep redefining my style throughout the stages of my life.

I'm thrilled to hear this! I love seeing your posts in the facebook group. Your style is so reflective of you and feels so in line. I'm sure professional clothes will be a new challenge to explore, but now that you have so much solidified it wont' feel as overwhelming

Thanks for thisepisode! I had a couple of "aha!" moments recently. I think I'm in the Verification stage, and to me that means focusing on enjoying my outfits and being satisfied when I'm satisfied with it. It happens too often that my enjoyment of an outfit is pulled down because I look at a photo and think "oh, that didn't look as good as I thought". But while wearing it, going about my day, I felt beautiful and confident I 100% agree with revisiting certain systems and toolboxes later - I did that with a certain system after gaining more basic knowledge and understanding of things like textures, hemlines, silhouettes etc (thanks to your Style Pillars!) I was better equipped to understand, so I can apply it better now.

Verification stage is so fun, you really get to see all your hard work pay off and find the confidence in your own style expression. I think revisiting systems is a great way to approach them, it really allows you to take in the info when you are ready!

Thank you for this podcast! This is exactly what I need to heard now. I am currently in the messy stage now. I love to learn, but also feel overwhelmed by the amount of information I learned. Guess that I should let all of style tools I collected stay in side my style toolbox and let my subconscious mind work their magic.

I think I am currently between the incubation and illumination phase. Next week I will get my essence typing results from Andrea and I hope that will give me more clarity and confidence in what I already feel my essence blend might be and hopeful learn how how to integrate it better. PS: I still don't regret cutting my hair short, Gaby!!!! So much better... 🥰
