Totally agree it was an EPIC night of GREAT classic CB radio. Just like like the old days on the 14 calling channel. It really hit me at the end of the video how far things have come in just 7 years when i only had 2 contacts to talk and one of those (CT318) was only for 10 mins a day.

Once you try CB radio, you are most likely going to enjoy it and perpetuate the hobby for the next generation. Thanks for sharing Fred.

Nobody was on channel 40 in the Nottingham area. The contacts I did pick up were just doing their normal chat on channel 19. I couldn't talk to them as my SWR was red across all channels. I couldn't resolve the issue in time for the night. Plus I was working till 9pm.

Thanks for the vid, it's good that the net was organised in your area. Looking back at my recording, I could hear Dave, but for a lot of the night over my way, people were having a QSO over the top of him. At least I made it to the special event station after they moved channel.

Fred, I'm afraid I'm a little too late to try to participate in the 40 Year U.K. CB big FM Net, but really appreciate the enthusiasm you folks have in the UK for Citizens Band Radio. It's especially meaningfull because I consider the UK the best friend the United States has. I really enjoy your videos and can't wait to purchase a CB rig with FM modulation here in the States. All the best. 73's. Tommy.

CT3883 Mark Romford (you've got me CT3003 and they were hearing 373 too about 44mins, I was struggling but managed to correct Dave and Jake a bit later on). I made the BH net in Rochester too on just 4W. Keep the videos coming and I hope to QSO one day. It really was your enthusiasm that made me give it another try since the early 90s, top marks man. 73s.

Sounds like you all had a good net. Shame that it wasn't the case for some of us. Up here in the original "turkey town" (Leicester) we were plagued by the i q zeros who just wanted to ruin what could of been a fantastic evening. Some seem to think that because they use a channel regular that they own the frequency and no one else has the right to use it.

What affect would the solar flares have on propagation Fred,
@CB-RADIO-UK3 жыл бұрын
An odd effect Kat. Normally we look for sun spots and small ejections to charge up the ionosphere. However a really big coronal mass ejection occurs it can wipe out radio for days. When skip does come back it can be un predictable.

Is there any point in fitting a squelch control to a CB radio?
@CB-RADIO-UK3 жыл бұрын
Why would you use a squelch when your on a net and your trying to hear and capture distant stations ?
@iainmeteorscan15553 жыл бұрын
@@CB-RADIO-UK Come on, Fred - it’s a CB myth that squelch has to be open to hear distant stations - and especially so on FM. Voice stations cannot be heard below the local noise level, so setting the squelch at the local noise level means only stations ABOVE the noise level will be heard. Watch your own video again - your minimum threshold for hearing any stations on your Truman was S5, so why not set squelch on S3 (which was your local noise level) and not have to contend with all that FM hash? Cases in point: 6:25 25:47 and 31:52 are just about readable on your S5 LED, so setting squelch at S3 on your radio would have been ideal. It’s astounding to me that even now, after all these years, most CBers I see operating still do not use their squelch. Their ears must be ringing by the end of a session! It’s no co-incidence that many CB operators suffer from tinnitus! Thanks for the upload - at least we all know that in some UK areas CB is not dead. Down here in the Southwest Sunshine States (Cornwall, Devon & Dorset) CB died many moons ago. (Maybe that’s because we’re all down on the beach, surfing!). Locally these days we just have a couple or three active sidebanders, mainly operating when the band is open. Keep on promoting the hobby, Fred. Iain.
