In The 48 Laws of Power, Robert Greene asserts that whether you like it or not, you’re part of a never-ending game of power. You’re either striving for and wielding power, or you’re a pawn being played by someone more powerful than you. You choose your role.
This book is for those who prefer to be players rather than pawns. To turn you from an amateur into a master player, Greene has codified 48 laws of power based on historical examples of people who’ve excelled or failed at wielding power, with glorious or bloody results (or both). Some key principles you’ll learn: use your enemies, keep others dependent on you, say as little as possible, take credit for others’ work, and don’t get your hands dirty. You can choose to apply or dismiss these rules - but you can’t escape them.

Law 7 and 26 - take credit for other's work. I see this all the time, the loud manager/executive demands work faster, take unnecessary risk, yells a lot, reduces staff resources to save money then takes credit for getting the major task done. If the decisions of the manager/executive causes unacceptable consequences, the workers are blamed

True story I once worked at a place where the other guy go over me cause he was passing around balloons of heroin , then a coworker over dosed and died and they covered it all up, and because I" just said no" I was constantly harassed. Wasn't one of those situations where I could go to my supervisors they were doing the heroin too. Fucking disgusted with people. They watch one of these videos and think they're all machvellians. I’m a menager in a large construction company and I despise many of the qualities listed here. From what I've read and thought about myself, there's nothing wrong with falling back if it's a better move if you win in the long run. Make yourself able to destroy but avoid it for realistically your own/loved ones sake. Unless it's the other way around which is why it's needed. Maybe it might be between you/your loved ones or someone else and that's your only choice. I believe anyways we should always be able to protect what we love but not be aggressive towards others for nefarious means.

I have theories about those who seek power for power's sake. They are usually vapid, soulless entities preying on societies' more noble ideals. If anything, understanding and identifying these empty individuals helps one become stronger in the inevitable confrontations that will ensue. True power comes from within, as it always has. Relying on the subjugation of others through external devices or circumstances just has people questioning your motives. People gravitate to those who possess inner strength. Most of these rules are truly cynical in practice and theory and anyone with a conscience should be apprehensive of anyone using them...

You get what you ask for. Power isn’t as great as it looks like from the outside. If it all goes to shit, they only have one person to point to. Everyone secretly hates your guts. Long hours. Stress. Backstabbers. Lazy employees. Lawsuits. Up and comers looking at your chair. Make sure you know what you’re getting into because these things are tough to get out of once you’ve achieved it. It’s not like you can just take a week off anytime you want.

Some of these are indeed sociopathic. I think the point is to enjoy the intrigue of ideas that are so amoral they're almost satirical and employ what makes sense to you and works for you in certain situations. I think most of us can agree that unfortunately some games must be played or we ourselves will be played. And that's just real life. These set of power games is something we’re all implementing in some way or another. Consciously or unconsciously. The narcissist, the psychopath are experts on employing these techniques. Hence, Henry Kissinger was used as a prime example. The evil ways on how this world operates requires us to understand and learn the rules. The trick is not to lose ourselves in the process. I was loving your post, nonetheless when you use Queen Elizabeth and Columbus as role models for this chart I do not like it because they do not represent only power, they represent colonization and oppression. They are not role models and they do represent a power that is not to be followed. The other points of your chart are inspiring and informative thank you.
