I think the reason why Zhongli is so high is because a lot of the current best DPS's (ie. Neuvillete, Arlecchino) in the game needed some sort of interruption resistance, something that Zhongli is the best at providing.

Not really “need” neither one of them do actually and Neuvilette has a higher dmg ceiling with comfort from baizhu, it’s mostly because last abyss was full geo and that made him amazing to use and this abyss has a lower dmg check so you can get away with much more comfort instead

Neither of them really need Zhongdong, if they were inmobile and vulnerable to stagger at the same time, then it would be a necessary investment (necessary in the sense of having a strong shield), but both are both mobile and have enough personal damage to go without a shielder. Mualani, Neuvillette, Arlecchino, Alhaitham, Navia, all have either interruption resistance in their kit or have flexible combos/damage with mobility so that they dont need a shielder. Chlorinde may be an exception but its 1 case vs many that dont need him. What i think is keeping Zhongdong that high is universality, mainly because of his comfort and elemental shred, so any time you dont have a 4th character that synergyses with the rest of the team (or are too lazy to think of a team), you just put Zhongdong there and he works. A player with high investment in their accounts wont have a reason to pull him, but a casual player may be inclined to get him. Summary: The best dps's don't NEED any shielder. Its more comfortable to play? Yes, but their best teams dont even use shielders anyway, he stays relevant because of comfort and universality, not relevance.

@arigatiu your exact point makes him relevant. You ever cleared on mobile or controller. Nuv is clunky on everything but pc. Unlike many of the dps you listed, he has zero interruption resistance. His best team is actually Zhongli, Furina and Kazuha. The usage rates don't lie. I'd take Leney, Ganyu , Wanderer without shields before Nuv and I do. They have better mobility and / or taunt and can use s instead of being stuck in an animation.

my guess about the seigwienne/kokomi usage rates is that kokomi has a much higher ownership rate from the late 2.x to early 3.x freeze and bloom days where she was classed as a really high tier character causing alot of people to pick her up, compared to siegwinne where approximately 3 people actually rolled for her

If we compare their uses it's 1542 uses for Sigewinne 4830 for Kokomi Yeah the much lower ownship of Sigewinne helps her alot (11,4% vs. 41,7%)

Freeze and bloom dropping off in popularity while Furina remains at the top is very relevant too. Sigewinne is a comfy pick for Furina teams and as we see with Zhongli usage people do value comfort/ease of use.

I agree but also, Kokomi teams tend to be quite AOE focused - for example, in Bloom, Freeze with groupers etc. The AOE requirements for this Abyss were pretty low so no need to use those teams. But I agree with your take on Siggy - nobody has her, those that do probably invested in her more than you'd expect, or they just use her with Furina (who is also very popular).

your mistake is seeing zhongli as geo. he isn't good because he's geo, he's good since his shield is virtually untouchable outside of hard event content. He creates situations where you are not spending time dodging and instead keeping up your dps.

Then he is useless because dodge takes like third of a second. You have to dodge like 20 times for zhongli to be better than the alternatives. And if you dodge that many times, then that's just skill issue, and has nothing with zhongli being good or bad.

Part of Zhongli's appeal, though, is because he's geo. For one, that gives his shield a 50% universal boost in strength, as opposed to a 150% boost to only its own element. So part of why his shield is as strong as it is is due to his element. And for another, his being geo coupled with his relatively low elemental application means he doesn't mess up reactions. This allows him to go into all sorts of teams.

Most players don't care about clearing as fast as possible. Others are on phones or consoles, and have to deal with inferior control schemes to mouse and keyboard. And then there's factors like latency and lack of knowledge about enemy attack patterns. Most players would rather comfortably clear. Zhongli enables that.

@@kirbastian7828 I do see Siggy dropping. Her elemental app is bad, she has a very lackluster kit all around, and so her usage rate is basically tied to Furina. And now, we're about to get Xilonen. This will impact Siggy two ways. First, teams that run Siggy because she doesn't mess up the reactions (because Furina is already there with hydro plus Siggy's bad app) can now run Xil instead, with an overall superior kit. And on the comfort front, because Xil provides a big buff to team damage output, she'll likely cause a bit of decrease in Furina usage, as people rely on Xil + another off-fielder in place of Furina + healer. And if you aren't using Furina, you aren't using Siggy due to how lackluster her kit is.

Chiori and Emilie are both criminally underrated and slept on. Zhongli/Chiori is just such a comfy core and Emilie hits like a truck. I love how consistently high their usage rates continue to be in spite of the (undeserved) backlash they get. 💛💚

Emilie is fantastic. I got distracted and my Arle died on the last second of 12-1. Zhongli/Bennet/Emilie finished the run with full stars. Granted, I had Neuv in the first half and he gave them plenty of time since he finishes everything quite quick, but still. ps Love Chiori, too!

I think what's interesting to me about Zhongli being so high is he may be an old character, but nobody who joined post Furina has him. If you joined the game for the extremely popular Fontaine women's releases then you never got Zhongli and I feel that this rating says more that Zhongli is still popular *specifically* with the people who've had him for a while. Meanwhile Baizhu being so popular to me is extremely unsurprising. He's reran 2 full times since his end-of-Sumeru release, meaning in less than 2 years players had 3 chances to get him and that gave people who skipped him once more chances to keep him in mind as an option and go for him properly. Additionally the other major healers for Nilou bloom teams - Barbara, Yaoyao, & Kokomi - dont rerun often to give easy replacements. He's a really fantastic character & honestly I'd consider him the best healer in the game for the variety of healing options he has [skill & burst] and a fantastic element, if not easily in the top 10 5☆s in genshin.

I agree that analyzing these chartswith even 50% accuracy to the reality is nigh impossible, but I personally think that the easiest ones to evaluate are characters who are actively running at the time of that abyss cycle, newest release characters, and characters who haven't run in a very long time. The factors get more limited due to less immediate ownership of characters and you can gleam more from that limitation. Seeing Xiangling or Xingqui at 80% usage is meaningless beyond saying they're more universally team-applicable than, say, Heizou or Klee, so I find trying to gleam anything from those types of characters' usage rates too much a shrug on if it means anything to see it as worthwhile trying to be confident in. Sucrose has low usage rates this abyss but I bet the next anemo-oriented abyss she'll shoot up and Kazuha will likely be the most used character, and it'll only be because all anemo users will shoot up with them and not because actually ownership of those characters skyrocketed or they got buffed in-game. Baizhu only shot up so high in usage initially when he reran, the 2nd time was alongside an insanely popular character who he was a fantastic partner to work with and his 2nd banner didn't take place at the literal month Honkai Star Rail came out & sucked half of genshin's fan base to check out their new project. That is a change in usage that, due to considering those outside factors we can trace, you can look at and say 'yeah something changed here actively for that character and their use by players. I honestly bet we'll get a better grasp on how useful owners of Emilie, Wriosthley, and Sigewinne find them to be on their reruns bc they all came out at rough time [end of Fontaine x2 and right after Neuvilette's premiere respectively] and thus are extremely scarce in the player base, comparatively. But that's just my personal take on what a person can accurately gleam from these types of messy charts!

having a zhongli and pulling zhongli are 2 different thing. pulling zhongli back in the day when sustain that viable only bennett, jean, and qiqi is great since standard 5 * actually harder to get than the limited one. but now, zhongli is not as good as he used to be. now there are a lot of sustain who has their own mechanic and has utility more than zhongli like baizhu being able to heal, shield, and apply dendro or kokomi who can heal and deal damage in hydro furina team or nilou bloom.

That's because before archaic petra was not considered an option for zhongli, now it is considered because there are very strong dps that benefit from that buff, plus it can be built for damage with homa which makes it a sub dps, buffer and protector so it gains a lot of value nowadays that before it was not possible to have weapons so easily 😷

3:31 I kind of disagree that Xilonen will be the one to make Baizhu fall off. Baizhu is such a perfect comfort pick especially because he heals the whole team and Xilonen only heals the active character. I do wonder about Ifa in the future? He’s mentioned in voice lines as a veterinarian and I’m curious about what he might bring as another potential healer character. I’m kind of hoping for a Bennett sidegrade from him.

I don't think they have too much overlap. In some situations like Neuvillete teams then yeah Baizhu's kit isn't doing too much, but in the dendro teams he is played in Xilonen is useless. So they aren't going to really compete in the specialties.

Anytime Yelan is used XQ will be used heavily as well. A lot of people still skip Yelan because they already have XQ. Also not really surprised that Koko is lower, she has a lot of competition now. Fischl being so low is surprising though. Al Haithem makes a lot of sense when you look at the current abyss buff.

Tbh I love my Nilou team but I didn’t use her this abyss. Looking at the enemies again it seems she wouldn’t work in the first half (Jadeplume enemy) and she could be fine in the second half but I preferred to use Arlecchino specifically cos of that hydro enemy in the first chamber that has so much health. Any hydro attacks would be a waste if Nilou was in the second half. If the next abyss is different people will probably use Nilou again. Dehya is probably good for burning so she’s getting used more.

I think the thing about Sigewinne is that when she came out people were comparing her to Kokomi and yes, in general I would say Kokomi is a better pick, Freeze, Bloom, TTDS, etc. But Sigewinne beats Kokomi when played with Furina and Furina tends to be more played than other teams that benefit Kokomi.

Sigewinne doesn't really beats Kokomi in all Furina teams. If the team can on field Kokomi, then she'll be better. Examples being Mono Hydro and Taser. Last abyss cycle, Kokomi Mono Hydro had as much appearance in abyss alone, as all Sigewinne teams combined for example.

Zhongli will keep being popular for the mere reason that 3 well invested good units is more than enough to clear abyss. Even the previous "harder" abyss rotations you could clear with Nahida+Fischl+Alhaitham or Arlecchino+Bennet+Yelan. In these cases the 4th unit can be anyone, so why not a character that makes you nigh-invincible?

7:07 lots of people have Kokomi (she's had her initial banner and 3 reruns, and is a pretty good character with multiple teams), but barely anyone has Sigewinne. It's the same reason Emilie, Chiori, and Wriothesley are so high: only people that really like the characters pulled for them (Wrio was same patch as Neuvillette and immediately before Furina, Chiori was after Nahida rerun and right before Neuvillette/Kazuha rerun, Emilie was immediately before Natlan).The fact that Sigewinne is at 16% is terrible considering the only people that pulled for her were people that get every single character or dedicated Sigewinne enjoyers.

People think Zhongli is just comfort. Mine does 75-100k per burst, very decent shield at only 35k HP build for geo team, 45k-55k HP build for raw shield. Hold ppl still, lengthen hurt-frames (bosses have I-frames), attack through pillar--he's a very solid addition imho. But ya you need a wall 🧱 (shield) sometimes lmao

16:50 there are some down times on the second side where you can just switch furina to healer mode, on top of being protected by zhongli. Like when maguu kenki is standing up or when the robot separates. Yelan takes care of furina energy in those moments.

When you stop and realize abyss usage rates have more to do with their roles and less to do with how good they are, it makes sense. Xiangling, for instance, is 50%, but she is the only true pyro off-fielder, so no shit she's high up, especially in an abyss that wants it. There's a reason the top has always been predominantly occupied by supports, and that's just for every support there's like 5 on field dps characters.

I finished my first 36 star clear with my motley crew. Team 1 - Chiori, Bennett, Xingqiu, Navia Team 2 - Dehya, Emilie, Xianyun, Gaming Some of my favorites (except Xingqiu) characters. Now I can start building my neglected characters like Furina. Many ways to clear this.

Sigewinne can heal the entire team to full hp with her skill (which has a short cooldown) by only staying on field for one second, which is significant in a place like the abyss. kokomi has to stay on the field mostly and sigewinne also has great synergy with one of the best characters in the game (Furina). Sigewinne's passive also buffs off-field elemental skill damage

that is a characteristic of geo. noelle does too, since 1.0, and so does itto since like 2.3? i think it was 2.3. ps: correction, noelle wasn't that good on the very first abyss 12. she had no real supports yet (i used to use TTDS ningguang as her support along with bennet and beidou or fischl, like supper scuffed comp, because there was no choice), everyone was still a beginner at low investment and noelle shines at high investment, no one had anything built so you usually had one lvl 80 character and 3 lvl 50 supporting character to try and to something in abyss 12, and there were too many debuffs, elemental shields, slows, spread monsters and pyro buffs that made pyro and venti both OP. but from 1.2 (which i think was the first abyss change, at least i don't remember one after the stamina-draining one and the geo-buffing one) onward it was smooth sailing forever onward.

A few things came to mind seeing this list: - Nilou being that low makes sense considering how bad of a matchup the current abyss is for her 😭 I really wanted to try playing her but the first half having a cryo shield and the second half being a boss rush scuffed her real bad. Well, at least until we see what Xilonen does to his slots on Neuv teams ;) Likewise with Zhongli... always up there in usage rate, meaning he goes in teams that work, and he's been well worth it for those that have picked him up. The thing with any type of data is that you can't just take it at face value. You have to consider it in context. Siggy's use rate is decent, not because she has a good kit (it's honestly down there with Albedo's), but because people picked her up specifically to play with their Furina, and so those that were already happy with their healers for their Furina teams likely skipped her. And that goes for overall use numbers as well. Like National was always used by a large quantity of people, as has hyperbloom since Sumeru, not necessarily because they are the best team for any given Abyss, but because they are a teams that are always effective on one side or the other, and people have the teams built for that reason. That's the Neuv situation currently as well. Not always the best team in terms of clear time, but always one of the better ones and easy to play.

I clearly understand and proposer in Honkai Starrail, but something about the way Genshin is laid out makes simplifying characters harder so I don't know who goes with who, as well as what artifacts to hardest besides the simpler ones. With the Theater mode, meta matters so much less than just building good characters in every element, since half the rewards are locked behind it. If you have enough characters to beat the Theater, I would think you have enough team comps to beat abyss depending on what makes it hard to clear (break shields, dps check, cc/grouping, tanking dmg etc)

Honestly, if you build two solid teams, you can clear pretty much every Abyss. All that matters is that the teams apply three or so elements well. If you look at National and Hyperbloom, they are both these type of teams, applying lots of various elements, while doing enough damage to clear fast enough. And Neuv is sort of similar, in that you can easily slot out one character for counter element reasons and still clear easily. And as long as those two teams cover somewhat different elements, you just pick the optimal side for reach, and away you go. Theater, though, isn't hard either. You'll likely have enough on-field DPS characters, and there are the trial ones, plus one from a friend. So you mostly just want to level up every support you have, and once that's done, whoever else you feel like just to hit the required amount so you can play.

There are only 2 healers now in the game that can heal the whole team from their only E which is baizhu and sigewinne. As long as furina is used, these healers won't fall off unless future healers can do massive general buff too + team heal from E. Baizhu can buff too but dendro related reactions only. If bennett doesn't have the massive atk buff, not many will use him just for the 'on-field character heal only' burst that need energy. You will know if you see where is jean or those 'single on-field character heal only' healers

I am one of those Furina Hutao Yelan Kazuha folks that runs no healer.....My furina is c4 but I just change her alignment for a rotation if I need to (every other if high damage or every 3rd if team is ok), the hydro swirl for most rotations (usually or blessed rare pyro) more than makes up for the dps loss from furinas minions for a rotation. Dont think it'd work well without c2 Furina though.....but HuTaos burst (with the few hits from minions/ heal ticks) is enough to cap stacks generally with c2 and a few targets......if single target then furina will definitely be alternating every rotation but it still works. Might not be optimal but Hu Tao has been my girl since she released.....Furina is my second girl, soon Xilonen will fill out the harem (ahem) I mean team, and fix the weakness of Kazuha only effectively swirling either Yelan and Furinas damage or HuTaos.....

I always knew Baizhu is gonna be great character even when people shat on him at first. He's SO comf, he has both healing AND interruption resistance that REFRESHES + his healing is basicallly on demand via his skill, not tied to his burst which is amazing for both overworld and end game. +he's dendro and a catalyst so - amazing support capabilities. He works in every dendro team + what I did not expect much - outside of them too (like Neuv). +I don't think Nilou is falling off in general, just this abbyss is unfavourable to her. On the general she carries me through almost any abbyss lmao 😭 +seeing Sigewinne above Kokomi is crazy ngl and I say that as a Sigewinne haver and enjoyer. Baizhu is an Aggravate support though. His A4 provides up to a 40% boost to the bonus damage of Aggravate and Spread. That's a lot, even if it is only for the on-fielder. Works very well with Yae, Clorinde, Alhaitham, and Keqing.

I think the reason zhongli is so high is that he solves fundamental problems of many of the highest teams: -C0 Neuvilette needs interruption resistance and Zhongli provides that really well without screwing up elements, while also providing a debuff. -Arlecchino is fairly squishy but can't be healed, again Zhongli provides very easy and reliable protection while also debuffing enemies. -Quite a lot of Mualani teams uses him. -He's very usable with Hu tao. -Navia can also get good use out of him. -Chiori as well. For a lot of teams it's either a worse survival option that requires more skill or using Zhongli and being fine.

About the Hu Tao/Furina team without healers. Hu Tao can decrease and increase her own HP for Furina stacks. And if Furina is C1, she already starts with 150 stacks while Hu Tao likes to be below 50% HP for a 33% DMG increase. Besides, you can use Furina healing mode for a bit, while setting up Yelan and Zhongli. So it can work like that.

as someone who uses hu tao/yelan/furina/zhongli, you only get stacks through hu tao’s hp shred onto herself when she drains health. you’re using furina more for her health drain / hydro app than for the buff, though the buff is still very good. people running this team are also more likely to have furina cons, since hu tao needs c1, its already a high investment team. people playing this team are more likely to pull more for this specific team/put more time into building it. you only heal through hu tao’s burst. 17:07

The website I sometimes use to look at what characters people pulled has around 125k Baizhus pulled across all 3 of his banners, that is 10k less than just Navia's first banner. My theory on why Sigewinne is higher is that Sige + Furina makes a great core, especially if the DPS doesn't benefit much from Xianyun (like Wanderer) and lowers Furina ER needs. And while Kokom is great for a driver for Furina in her monohydro, Kokomi needing to be onfield for the teamwide healing can get in the way from some rotation if you're using any other onfielder and Sige requires little to no onfield time to do so.

while this can be true in theory, in reality this is just a data sample thing. Sigewinne has way less owners than Kokomi, but they use her slightly more on average for various reasons only they could tell us (they really like her, she's more recent than Kokomi, maybe they have cons, perhaps they don't even have Kokomi themselves, etc etc). But Kokomi still appears 4 times more in absolute terms (about 4000 kokomi used in this data sample, as opposed to about 1000 Sigewinne used). Reasons why she might be less used can be as simple as she's not a recent character anymore so players might go on to play or even main newer ones simply because they're getting bored (Sigewinne being a potential candidate of course), as well as the fact her best teams are overall not the most popular this abyss in spite of how they are in a vacuum (Nilou bloom, Mono-hydro, Ayaka Freeze and Taser are all less than ideal this time around, at least at low / f2p investment)

I don't see Xilonen knocking down Baizhu very far. Because dendro doesn't mesh with Xilonen's kit, it's not a case of replacing one with the other. Dendro teams will still need Baizhu.

For the ayaka section, you can run freeze. The trick is to wait for the cryo fatui to get his shield and dont destroy the pryo shield, then swirl pyro using kazuha to insta melt that shield off before rotating. Personally i see a lot of people using this strategy with kazu, xianyun and faruzan allowing you to completely avoid the necessity for pyro. Edit: My personal guess for the weird hutao furina one, is that the furina they are using either has key of khaj (i.e they actl still get better buffs from furina anyways even at low hp + they get to lower their hp much easier), or they are c1, so 150 stacks is btr than nothing

the main reason for zhongli (and other s+ characters) has to be that: he is a corner stone for the main dps characters in high tiers , which already have the high dmg but they lose that dmg if they get staggered

Zhongli is comfy and I think he is still good for Arlecchino teams, Neuvilette teams, and even in dendro teams where you can't swirl but maybe want some more protection or res shred. Baizhu fits into Furina teams as a strong healer, can be played in dendro teams alongside Nahida, can be played with burning/burgeon/aggravate, and he is also really good for Neuvilette teams for providing dendro reactions and a small shield + big heal. I think a lot of people skip him, so he can have a higher play rate because he is generally useful enough to anyone who pulled for him

The Furina no healer comps have Furina set to heal mode, she also doesn't steal vapes. It's not a Furina sub DPS comp it's a hyper carry Mualani comp

The no healer mualani team with kazuha uses C6 furina so you dont need a healer.

Zhongli is probably this high specifically for the gravity field generator. Its not the most common enemy so most people dont know its patterns and timing that well and just brute force it with him (like i did)

As this abyss has way way lower difficulty bar than couple of previous ones so i'm not surprised by weird teamcomps cuz even I was able to clear with only Arle on one and Ganyu on second side. But I heard that in 5.1 enemies hp multiplier is going up, so brace yourself.

You didn't undersell Kazuha. He is very good, neither overrated or underrated. He just isn't as necessary for you if you're still building your teams and they're not yet consistent. Kazuha isn't going to necessarily make up for the flaws in a poorly built account, and it won't make a newish account shine brightly just for having him.

As someone who loves using Baizhu and will also be pulling for Xilonen, I do think his usage rate will drop but not by much. Xilonen will be the more offensive option but Baizhu will be the comfort option.

I think a good time to buff Venti if they want a reason (read: excuse) would be when Venti's second Archon quest comes out. There is a running undercurrent in the lore that Venti is hiding a lot of his power for some reason. It would be a nice story-mechanics integration if Venti gets a mechanical buff 'when the gloves come off'.
