It's so concealable that if you couldn't find a place to conceal it, the 500 can just make a hole large enough to hide your gun. Now that is concealbility.

It's not just because you are a hardcore P229 shooter, but it's mainly because you are always straight to the point is why I enjoy your videos! Most of KZbin instruction type videos are mainly people who LOVE to hear themselves talk, while their mouths run on and on and on about nothing. Most of what they say can be rendered down to 4 minutes. But your videos are always professional, to the point, and informative. Keep up the good work and thanks for all the great videos. I've learned a lot from your work.

Great video. Different preferences than mine, but... My first choice for ccw would be the Smith and Wesson 442/642. Light weight, easy to shoot, easy to learn how to work. Second, Rock Island Armory M 206. All the good stuff about the J Frame in a slightly larger, heavier package which makes it even easier to shoot, plus it holds 6 rounds instead of 5. Third, Smith and Wesson M&P Shield 9 mm. Excellent conceablity, but shoots like a bigger gun than it actually is. Fourth, Walther PK 380. The size of a single stack 9, but chambered in .380 acp makes it very soft shooting, excellent ergonomics make it comfortable to hold, incredibly easy to rack the slide, and it's hammer-fired, not striker-fired. Fifth, a government size M 1911a1. There's something about the 1911 that's just plain magical.

I think your list is okay, and won’t say it is bad. But, one thing I have learned in my 32+ years of law enforcement....the best firearm to carry....the one you have trained with.....and trained with....and trained with. If you have not trained with ANY firearm, and become proficient with ANY firearm, then no firearm is good to carry. Personally, I carry a Springfield 1911 A1. I have carried it open and concealed. I have carried it on duty and off duty. I have trained with this firearm for many, many, many years. Would I say that it is the best firearm for self defense....for me, yes...for others, I really can’t say. It all depends on their level of training. I will say, you did do a good video. I respect you choices of top 5, but I do have to say that they wouldn’t be my top 5. That is the beauty of living in the nation that gives you the freedom to post your own top 5 list.....a freedom I fought for and defended, and will continue to defend...even though I am no longer in the military, or a cop.

He's talking about the pistol best for CONCEALED carry. Of course the pistol you want to carry is the one you've trained the most with. That goes without saying. But he's talking about pistols that are best for concealed in the sense of portability, capacity, etc. Your comment tells me you're the type that is personally opinionated rather than objective. Your comment is actually irrelevant to this video.

I agree with the number one choice. When I started shooting, I fell in love with the SIG P228. The only reason I went to 3rd gen S&W metallic framed pistols is because of the slide mounted and magazine disconnect safety. I have most 3rd gen S&Ws in my collection including an FBI 1076. What I have my sights set on are the new Arex pistols which are SIG clone with the same controls plus a frame mounted safety similar to a Taurus PT-92/99/100/101 or 1911.

Caleb, this was a very well thought out list, even though other guns could be substituted. I particularly liked your comment about the "U-shaped learning curve" with J-frames. So true. I completely agree with you on the Glock 42 vs. the 43, especially for new shooters. On the S&W M&P, I prefer the 9C because I'm a bit short and it prints less, but I back it up with the full-sized magazine as my spare. The Glock 19 needs no justification to make the list. I carried one daily as my uniform and plain clothes duty weapon and it served me well, and all I ever did to it was change out the sights. You surprised me on the SIG P229, but in thinking about it, I'd tend to agree. I have an early one in 9mm with the 13 shot frame but new night sights that I've owned for a very long time, and head to head with my Glock 19 is slightly more accurate. It just seems to shoot itself, probably owing to a bit more weight than the Glock. Having held a bunch of folks at gunpoint over the years, I do like that long DA trigger when it comes out of the holster. I have another one in .357 SIG that is just as good. Having come up in the 70's and 80's I can well remember a time when if you wanted to carry an auto you had two choices, a 1911 or a Browning Hi Power. Now we have many excellent choices in carry handguns. Thanks for the cool video.

Do you shoot the M&P9c that much worse than the full size? I realise there is a trade off, concealed vs. ability to put shots on target, but are you skirting around naming a concealed gun? Goes from .95 inches wide to 1.20 inches wide. But you go from 8+1 to 15+1, ambi controls and 4 back straps to change on the grip to fit your hand, and an accessory rail if that last part matters to you. Shield is always a great choice though.

I'm a 5'4", 95lb female, and I have no trouble whatsoever carrying a Ruger SR 40 concealed in spite of how big it is. Really don't get the fascination with Glock; I wasn't all that impressed with the few I've shot. My Ruger fits my hand better, the recoil doesn't bother me, I've never needed sights anyway, so that made no difference regardless, and I got much better shot grouping with my Ruger. Not a fan of the trigger or the slide on Glocks, personally.

I new you were going to pick the Sig Sauer, only I was a model off. I thought it would be the P226, it's not much bigger than the P229. Sig Sauer and CZ are two of my favorite manufacturers for carry purposes. I know the CZ75 might be a little heavy for some with that all metal frame, but you get on target quickly and It's super accurate! Very good video!

Yes and yes... Not as hard to carry a 15rd compact pistol as people think, especially appendix. I carry a P99/Q often and even in shorts and t-shirt, including ones very fit 19yo me purchased several years ago, it is comfy and concealed. A tiny 9mm or j frame is more comfy throughout the day but reliability and accurate hits are absolute top priority.

I have a P229 .40 that I originally bought for concealed carry many years ago, and it was the one that I used everyday; my workhorse (I bought it mostly because it was similar to the DA/SA M9 that I'd trained on, but much better in every way; it's a fantastic gun that shoots like a laser). Nowadays I prefer a smaller gun that fits into a pocket but that can also shoot magnum loads, so I've switched to revolvers altogether for carry (but I still always keep my P229 very close at hand). I'll still carry the P229, but only in jacket/coat weather. In the summertime, LCR or Rhino in .357 Mag is good for me (my girl carries my LCR mostly these days, so I put some good .38 Specials in it for her; Rhino in full .357 Mag for me). Between the two of us, there are more than enough rounds to take care of most situations with reloads (especially considering that the grand majority of civilian confrontations are with only one or two foes). If in a combat situation I ever need a supplement sidearm to take over for my rifle, then a Sig P220* (.45 auto), P226, or P229 will do the trick (.40 for me, 9mm for her). *the P220 only comes in .45 or 10mm; I prefer the .45 version of this gun. As for the P226 and the P229, most folks cannot handle the "pop" of the .40 vs the 9mm, but I actually prefer the .40 when it comes to getting back on target.

For my money, a snub nose revolver is the best choice for concealed carry. That's not to put down the other guns you listed, or anyone else's preferences, but I feel a snub conceals better, carries more easily, is more intimidating when viewed from the front, and is inherently more accurate than a semi-auto, because the barrel is rigidly affixed to the frame.

For me the versatility of a compact is essential, I carry the Springfield XDM 9mm compact. When concealment and weight are the most important considerations the short 13 round mag really reduces the angular size of the weapon while still providing enough rounds for almost any altercation. When the weather is cooler and I am not carrying all day the larger mag turns the gun full size feeling, though with the 3.8" barrel still concealable, and with a 19 round capacity as icing. My accuracy is not substantially better with a 4.5" barrel anyway, and the 3.8 is match grade as well. Other benefits are striker fire, great skin purchase when wet, visual and tactile notification of a cocked striker, and the excellent palm safety. The only negatives are the stock sights are extremely difficult to remove, and for medium to small hands thumb actuation of the stock mag release requires contortion or a longer button, though the trigger finger can work the other side of the stock button easily. That's my 2, or more like 20 cents worth. Hope that helps someone on the fence.

+Damien Campbell I tried that once. It didn't take. And when I'm around real, actual point, I don't talk shit about how good I am. I prefer to run my gun, not my mouth. But everyone on KZbin thinks they're a goddamn ninja superstar gunfighter, when most of them have never taken a class or shot a match. So if someone wants to talk shit, I'm more than happy to put my qualifications out there. So far no one's stepped up and taken the challenge, which tells me that people just want to talk shit and no one actually wants to run their gun. Sad.
