This video is so great! The part at 6:50 where you explained the spaces around the court opening up after using certain kinds of return and their impact on both of the opponents is so insightful. This might have been the video I've been waiting for! Also your adjustment to intermediate level, where people are often not explosive enough to play everything downwards, is very helpful! One tip I can give to these players is practice your flick returns. The better you get at returning flick returns, the further forward you can stand, which is probably the biggest factor in playing a good Doubles return 👍

I absolutely loved this (as well as your other) video. great explanation and I will definitely keep this in mind my next game. Do you have any tips on how to get a really tight low serve? I find that my serves are, although alright, not tight enough and I'd really like the shuttle to go down as soon as it is over the net. If I do succeed in this then it often falls short, meaning there was just insufucient power/speed behind the shot and if I add more power or try to add a little bit of speed I lose the effect that I want. Thanks in advance for any replies (whoever that may be)

Great tips! Although personally I tend to stay about 3/4 way to the service line and closer to the middle of the court since my movement sucks and it's hard for me to return a flick or drive serve. 3/4 way to the service line is my sweet spot right now since I have enough time to react to either of those serve while I always return low serves without sacrificing too much quality of shot (I'd say about it's 80-90% quality) unless it's obviously short. Confidently staying near the service line is one of my goals this year :) Edit 1: I think in a non competitive environment (regular play without tournament/reward/contest etc.) it also baits the other team into playing a serve to where I am opposite at 🤣. I mentioned I position myself 3/4 of the way to the service line and lean towards the center so most serves I receive is a low serve or a flick serve opposite of my position. This kinda helps me since I can kind of predict that they will serve there and also help me improve my movement since i'll be moving to the opposite side fast 😄

Great video! The thinking for where the serve returner should move after hitting drive up the middle return is one of the few situations where I always felt like I wasn't in a good spot. Now I see why, I was staying in the middle, I will try moving back to protect a side after this one and see if I get some more intercepts, or make it easier for my partner to know where they should be moving. Practising these tomorrow. As I'm a senior, playing with other seniors a fast flat clear to corners tends to make them stand back more. Then the mid court slow push starts to really puts pressure on.

To commenter "meekins", If you can do a fast flat clear as a return to a low serve then you must be a real magician able to do the impossible, 'cos a clear is a shot played when the shuttle is high and from the back of the court.. Maybe you mean a lift. I wonder if there is any material out there for beginner badminton players that teach them correct terminology so they know the difference between a lift and a clear , and many beginners mix up between a drop and a net shot.. I find a lot of beginner badminton players mix their terms up.

Perhaps I should have used the word push or drive as better describing the shot. Whenever I play this shot it is rarely even above head height. Also please note not many 'beginners' have won regional titles in Spain in both singles an doubles. I'm just an old player who can sometimes mix up words.

I was just wondering if I can ask you a question I am a couch here I have been playing badminton for a lot of time .all this time I have a attacking play style it is 100% like Lzj I do smash like Lzj from anywhere in court and body is same but my couch says that you should change your attacking style to players like ginding who are fast and attack when behind shuttle and like ginding but I am feeling very hard changing and I feel my old style is good but problem is I am 175 cm and Lzj is 185 6.1 and I am 5.85 so should I continue attack like Lzj or chnage to ginding

One of my issues is that have a reasonably low receive stance (does help a bit with drive serves) and when approaching the net I stay too low hence it's harder to get 'on top' of the shuttle to play it downwards. (Need to rise up a bit e.g. look at how Kevin plays his deceptive return) Too many years with a bad habit...but at least I know the problem and can *try* to address it!
