Hi There! Thanks for the reviews here. I have all of them btw and agree with you. .I'm doing a ressurection of a 28 yr old 24 track 2 inch reels from 1997 actually for a clients project and they were baked and transferred back in 2012 at 96hz 48khz to ProTools for these projects remixes. I am finally able to get to this on time I have here and there for this client in Germany. I am using a lot to fix things as they are the unmixed tracks, but good pre's and mics were used in SSL rooms on both projects, but still the mixing was not what the client wanted. It was mastered at Sony, but not the best for the time we had. It's sort of a labor of love as I did a lot of the arranging and also played the brass section (trumpets), ,myself. Strings etc. It's coming along well. The other project as this one has a wide range of material as the saxophonists wrote a lot of styles in this era. Reggae and sort of Jazz, but not in the traditional sense and not jazz fusion. Fun to work on at this time for me to carve out a quality product.

10:50 very cool reviews, gotta look into Deres. got the waves and fabfilter ones but still only scratch the surface on these... my main Question: how do you transfer all your Q3 instances to Q4 in a mix? i feel there should be a more convenient way than copying each EQ point manually. in fact fabfilter would do themselves a huge favour by including a Q3 update that supports"upgrading" an instance in a single click. at least make the copy settings compatible so we can paste them to Q4!

That’s a concern of mine too. I noticed that the V3 presets folder does indeed import automatically, but would still be impossible to port and entire mix that way! I’m wondering what happens if you uninstall Pro Q3 and then launch a project; for example, I had no idea Kontakt was backwards-compatible until I only had K7 installed! I’ll test this out when I get home. Cheers!

@@palebluedotstudios I would think you get the dreaded "plugin missing" message. If the copy / paste mechanism in Q3 utilizes the clipboard, it should be theoretically possible for Q4 to read these settings and convert them for itself. After all, there is nothing that Q3 does that Q 4 cannot do.

@@realraven2000 I did the test, and I indeed got the dreaded "plugin missing" message. And even worse, you can't copy and paste between instances. The only thing you can do is save presets between Q3 and Q4. So that's a bit sad.

@@palebluedotstudios I thought so. I think it's time to submit this as feature request to fabfilter, I know it can be implemented in one way or another (even if it involves also updating Q3), but it would be such a win for them, it it was possible to replace all Q3 with Q4 with two or three clicks, then it's a lot easier to get used to the new workflow, and they will definitely sell more upgrades! Ideally it would just be a single click that instantiates and copies everything automatically, but a copy preset (Q2, Q3) => paste preset (Q4) would be a godsend.

So as a newbie, Deres and Curves Equator feel like they're doing mostly the same thing - could you highlight any differences, and/or when you would use one over the other? Could Deres have done the full-mix cleanup you demonstrated with Equator?

Would love to know the answer to this too!

Deres targets only one frequency and it's stat8c. Curve Equator targets many frequencies and is dynamic. Deres is more limited in this 2ay but can be used on an individual instrument to get rid of one speciffic frequency without affecting the others. It also, has 4x oversampling.

Great question! No, Deres could not handle the full remaster, and here’s why: Waves Equator is a full, multiband spectral dynamics processor, with much more minute control over every setting. Deres is essentially one single notch EQ with some dynamic features. Deres is great for a strong, static resonance (like guitars), but it’s a single band, and it’s limited to 1-8k. Waves is the better choice for more complex mixing and mastering. Make sense?

@@palebluedotstudios Thanks for the explanation! And too bad, because I don't think I'll allow Waves back on my computer for one plugin. Maybe sticking Deres on individual tracks would have a similar cumulative effect.

@@chrishillery I hear you (this reminds me to get back on my Waves Alternatives video!), and Deres is very, very useful. I still use it all the time, even on my master. It's great for a quick fix, and it's only $9.99! Check out SpecCraft as well, which is a little more at $69, I think. Just as powerful as Waves Equator, I just like working with Equator a bit more. Cheers!

@ They should. Most of Kiive stuff has a trial. I see a Free trial button below the buy now.
