The greatest temptations are conformity, compromising our integrity, cursing our enemy. The most evil acts that i do are: preaching what I do not live; glorying in my success as if God had not provided all my wisdom, all my strength, and, by His Truth and Beauty, all my faith. At 86 years of age, these are the indulgences that, if not rooted out of my life, will separate me from God. Yes, yes, the clever tongue and the potent parts of me that make me able to bear spiritual fruit, these can lure me to pride and the delusion of self sufficiency, or even the insanity of believing I have finished my work. Temptations grow more and more subtle as my flesh declines and my mind seeks rest and my soul hungers for peace. One strength, one rest, one peace is all this life will give me: knowing I love God above all else. May we all be alert to serpent cunning. May we all be harmless as doves. May we all welcome ALL that God allows in our lives. This is my prayer.
