@@WesternAustraliaNowAndThen in a way willful ignorance and stupid are in bed together. I think hundreds of years ago the ruling class had more stupid subjects. Nowadays they deploy propaganda in order to indoctrinate their brains, which leads to a form of willful blindness. At least with pure ignorance, we have a chance at correcting their course. This is true. The students in school have no attention span anymore. kids want to be entertained all the time, or they have behavior issues that effect everyone in the classroom like a contagion. The difference between true leadership and people attempting to divide/rule that nobody seems to catch these days. The whole world’s gone blow out somebody else’s candle to make yours APPEAR brighter. That’s failed character and vanity misrepresenting itself as cleverness and charisma. For the last 20 years they’ve said the dark triad personalities “make good executives” well, here we are. The fact that people can’t detect the blatant divide/rule going on is a testament to the lack of basic situational awareness of people in the west right now, or willful ignorance I can’t be sure to tell the truth. One the explanations for this is that some intelligent people often find it expedient to go along with the group/crowd/whatever even when they rightly esteem the others are wrong or that they themselves have a truer appreciation of a situation. Why? for fear of ostracism, and a good hunch that no one will listen or accept their accurate analysis anyway, but there will still be negative consequences for 'being right' 'against the others.

If anyone had told them about a globally connected set of computers that are always on and can transmit massive amounts of information, they likely would have doubled down on their prediction of a future utopia. You can be smart in math or anotamy or physics, but these are skills unto themselves that do not require critical thinking, only a bigger memorizaton skill. I used to think being "school smart" meant memorizing stuff... Well, I found out that it is actually cheating. The thing is, math, physics, chemistry, etc, all have their laws and principles which need to be understood and used as building blocks for whatever you want to "build", not simply memorize everything. What happened to me was that I would memorize it all for the exam, but 1 week later I would forget 90+ % of everyhting. Becuase I simply did not understand what the heck I was memorizing. So my brain, which was smarter than me, said: "Okay buddy, I will make the effort of retaining this for you for the exam, which I know matters to you. But 2 days after I throw all this garbage away, and that's final !" So memorizing was the the biggest frenemy I ever had when it came to knowledge. It is a limited tool at best.

@@yvemcbride7056 Correct. The very root of the word ignorant is 'no knowledge.' If you don't know, you don't know. Intelligence allows one to learn and adapt. Stupid is often the refusal (via confirmation bias, wishing, refusal to investigate, etc) to apply or investigate intelligent routes. Ignorance, as a causation, can be multi-origin: physical, mental development, location (as in living in the boonies), lack of resources, etc. Stupid has all the facts laid out in front, along with the tools to decipher, and still comes up with '5' to the query 'what is 2+2' simply because they are following the herd or doubling-down as the kids say these days.

Cipolla is pretty good, but rather ignores other factors such as desperation and fear. Perfectly rational and sensible people can still spout stupid nonsense if pressed to it - think about North Korea, where it's basically a survival strategy. Similarly, if that's 'the way the wind's blowing' a lot of people will opt for the safer path of going along with it. Imagine if everyone is starving, your kids are starving, and the guy in charge of the food supply says: "Your family can have food, but your neighbour's can't." How long are you going to stay on that moral high ground? He also seems to ignore the power of media and propaganda, pushing a one-sided view of the 'Nation' (and the World) from the moment we learn to read. I'm not just talking about Autocracies here, perfectly liberal-seeming Democracies do it just as much. The main purpose is to make you always think you're in the minority if you question anything about the powers-that-be.

Why would anyone take that pandemic seriously when the rules made no sense? Is it stupid to follow something that you know is just for show? Social distancing was stupid and not based on any science. Wearing of a face covering, even an N95 mask if it wasn’t properly fitted, was a stupid rule that wasn’t based on science. Getting a shot for a virus your body has natural immunity to was stupid and not based on science. Quarantining the healthy was a stupid rule and not based on science. Not quarantining the vulnerable was a stupid rule and not based on science. Keeping children out of school was a stupid rule and not based on science. Encouraging children to get the shot was a stupid rule and not based on science. Arresting people for being alone in a kayak in the ocean during the pandemic was a stupid rule and not based on science. Restricting people from gathering outside was a stupid rule and not based on science. Allowing certain groups to gather for specific reasons without following the rules was a stupid rule and not based on science. There are far more coherent arguments that point towards the stupid people being the ones who believed whatever they were told and who did whatever they were told to do. It’s unbelievable that it’s 4 years later and there are people who don’t know how much we were lied to during that time. In 2015 I, too, was worried that many Americans were stupid. Seeing the media claiming Hillary had a 98% chance of winning really opened my eyes to the fact that we had a lot of stupid people voting. On election night I was happy to learn there were less stupid people that voted than the media had anticipated. Then in 2020 I was reminded how many stupid people were still here. They all voted for Biden. Then when he “won” I realized how stupid the media thinks we all are when they claimed it was the most secure election ever.

This “theory “ doesn’t address the problem with different opinions. It assumes what one side sees as factual or common sense is based on observations or interpretations that are irrefutable fact, while the opposing side may believe the data they have used to formulate an opinion, although 180 degrees opposite, they also consider factual. What normally results when humans have different opinions is that their understanding of what data is actually accurate and factual are frequently at odds usually due to skewed or misleading data sets.So don’t assume your intellectual superiority without absolute proof the data supports your argument.

Sorry I meant that we should be careful to only ban CRT books. Banning historical ones would be stupid.

Part of the problem is that the news is ridiculously biased and far too many blindly believe the nonsense

Reading the book White Rural Rage by Tom Schaller. Te parallels are astounding. Especially, regarding the Third Law of Stupidity

Terrible book. It would be foolish to read a book written by someone like Tom Schallar and believe you’re getting a fair view on whatever the topic is. Tom considers himself a Democrat before he considers himself an American. Everything he writes he does so with the intention of making Republicans look bad and Democrats look great. He makes many claims about rural Americans without any real proof to back them up. Amazingly he only focuses on rural whites, as if they’re the only group in rural areas that are affected. It is very fitting for the topic of this video to believe a man like him could understand what is in the hearts of rural Americans. I would never read a book written by a republican and believe I was getting the full story, just like I wouldn’t believe I was getting the full story from Tom. He is wrong about the plight of rural Americans and also about which people in government are harming them. Tom has an agenda and it’s on full display in that book. His agenda is not about America or Americans. His agenda is solely to enrich the Democrat party. But if you want to judge what is happening to rural Americans based on the words of someone as partisan him then that’s on you.

White rural rage doesn't exist in the real world. They are the down to earth people. Live with them before judgment? Real Americans

An indictment is a signal from the public that the investigative bodies - police, prosecutors, etc. - have enough evidence that the people feel comfortable charging a particular individual and bringing a criminal charge to trial. In terms of the makeup of a grand jury, it typically consists of a cross-section of people in the local community where that crime took place. Generally, they are the ones who are determining whether all the evidence that has been presented to them meets the bare minimum standard of probable cause.
