Nice presentation thanks. I've a question though about the optical zoom range which is 4.2x. Isn't it small? A much cheaper Canon Powershot 360 HS has a 12x optical zoom. Maybe I didn't understand something.
@apertureatlas8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the good feedback! Let me explain: The smaller the sensor, the easier it is to put a big zoom range in a camera - the 360 HS has a small image sensor (1/2.3"), similar in size to what we find in smartphone cameras. The G7x has a 1inch sensor, much bigger - which means that image quality is a lot better, but the zoom range is smaller. Its optical physics. So the 4.2x zoom is smaller on the G7x (good for what's close to you and 50meters away), but the image quality is better. Hope this clarifies it!

I have a G7x Mkii. Agree with all you say. Do you think the camera is rugged enough to be carried in a cargo pocket? I am concerned about bumping is as I move about. My Samsung s22 Ultra is a great camera but in the middle of a shoot and the phone rings is inconvenient. A dedicated camera is so much better.
@apertureatlas2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The weak points of this camera are: 1. the lens (even of it is retreacted) and 2. the screen. Just to be sure, I would give it an extra layer of protection, a small bag (like the one I show in the video). The main risk would be something like a table corner pressing on the lens or on the screen. The camera is well built. It can last and it can take a lot of hits, but not in those two weak points. So I would be careful not to carry it without giving it protection. If there were a solid case, with some solid plastic, covering the two weak sides, that would be great.

A dedicated camera is always superior to a cell phone camera in my view. I have the Samsung S20 which has nice camera features just not the same as a real camera.
@feetfirstspeks Жыл бұрын
When our eyesight starts to weaken, usually in our mid-40s, screens can be very difficult to use efficiently and quickly. So a good viewfinder becomes much more important.
@apertureatlas Жыл бұрын
I agree. A viewfinder is very important. I will always prefer a camera that has one.

informative video, I have only had my G7X mii for a week, got it from a pawn shop for 200US but I really love using it so far. I trade off between this and a Lumix ZS60 mainly when I want to use an EVF which this does not have. It won't replace my FF or M43 cameras but it is still a ton of fun to use.

Good video. I have my G7x mk ii for 5 years now. Yes it’s good for travel and street photography (to some degree). The biggest gripe I have with it is that I cannot turn off the focus confirmation beep. Even when using servo mode. Although you can turn off the shutter sound, people will definitely know you’re photographing them when they hear the focus beep.
@apertureatlas Жыл бұрын
If you've been using the G7X Mark II for 5 years, it shows that it's a durable camera. It's interesting that you mentioned the focus confirmation beep sound, which unfortunately can't be turned off. This is indeed a downside, as it attracts attention while taking photos. Thank you for sharing this information!

Yes, it does have a button for manual focus - you can see it at min 3:32 in this clip. On the left side, inside that dial, there is is a ”MF” button that activates manual focusing.

There is any solution for dust inside lens?
@apertureatlas Жыл бұрын
I believe that a Camera Service shop would be the only solution for this. A small amount of dust should not be a reason of concern. That dust won't affect images quality. Concerning would be a big amount of dust/dirt/sand affecting the lenses ability to expand and contract.

I was on edge about purchasing this - I thought it was over-hyped from social media. But I really needed a smartphone alternative because I am getting annoyed with the AI corrections IPhone applies (which can't be turned off unless I pay for third party apps). I bit the bullet and bought this second hand today, it was incredibly difficult to find anything new in stock that wasn't marked up by another 300 dollars! I am mostly interested in snapping photos so I hope I made the right choice (it was between this and the sony RX100 and ricoh GR which are slightly more expensive)
@apertureatlas5 ай бұрын
I believe you made the right choice! When compared to the Canon G7X Mark II, the Sony RX100 is good enough starting with the Mark III version, and the Ricoh GR doesn't have a flip screen (so less flexibility). Enjoy your Canon camera!

great video, how do i take a long ex photo? like 2 min shot
@apertureatlas Жыл бұрын
Thank you! For a long exposure, just set the camera to Manual Mode(M) and turn the shutter speed dial until it reaches longer exposures, 1-2-5 seconds; turn the the dial all the way until you reach "BULB" . There you can make a long exposure. Once on "BULB" press the button that takes the photo(shutter button), count 1-2 minutes (or how many minutes you want), press the shutter button again and that's it, a long exposure shot.

@apertureatlas Жыл бұрын
I honestly don't know all the features of this camera. You are probably searching how to get a shallow depth a field (bkd blur). On this channel there's a video called "HOW TO GET BOKEH - The Easy Way" - there I explain how to obtain a blurry background. With the help of some deeper Google/KZbin searches I'm sure you can find plenty information about the camera and how to use Manual settings.

Is it true the G7X mk ii overheats and shuts off after 10 mins of recording ?
@apertureatlas2 жыл бұрын
I have to be honest with you, I sold it. It is a good camera, but I prefer the bigger ones. I had it for a couple of months, but it's not for me. I didn't got a chance to record videos of up to 10 minutes or more. I only filmed about 5 and it was ok, no heating. To find an answer to your question, please also ask other people about this issue.
@BabyBackManiac2 жыл бұрын
No it doesn’t. But the G7x miii will in 4k…and it only takes about 3 minutes. The mark ii doesn’t overheat as it’s only 1080.

I want to ask you about something I have the g7x camera but now the memory card input doesn't work when I put any memory card in it i can turn on the camera but i can't take any photo and there is a sign at the top of the screen that says that the memory card doesn't work why? how can i fix the memory card input ? can you help me ? RJ`s Camera Lenses
@apertureatlas2 жыл бұрын
The most common issue with the memory card input not working is because of the card. That SD card has a switch on it. Look at the card with the card brand name facing you. On the top left corner that switch must stay up. The card is write-protected if that switch is down. Some cards have loose switches that immediately move once you insert the card. A fresh-new card should have a stronger switch (that stays up). Try to press that switch up, make sure it stays up. If it doesn`t, try with a new card. If the problem persists even with a new card, that would be a worse case scenario, meaning that the card was, at some point, inserted in the wrong way and the camera card pins were bent. Hopefully (and most probably) you only have a card issue. All the best!
@BALSH072 жыл бұрын

You sure this sentiment isn't just the result of influencers telling you that you NEED the x100? Photography isn't about the tool you use, it's about capturing the world through your unique perspective. This is why we've seen the resurgence of the early-mid 00s digicam - simple devices that allow us to go out and shoot without overthinking or fiddling with settings because at the end, we just want to capture and share what we see out there.
