Talking about infuriating moments during the Olympics: I was utterly disgusted with how 'we' (the Netherlands) send a child molester to represent us at beach volleybal. My favourite thing besides seeing athletes excel at their sports was the presence Snoop Dogg 😂

Hi Charlotte, Romanian living in Paris here. Based on reading official statements published by the gymnastics Romanian federation, what they proposed was that all 3 athletes involved in this unfortunate situation (Ana Barbosu, Sabrina Voinea, and Jordan Chiles) get a bronze medal… their proposal got refused though.

Hi Charlotte, French girl here, living in Paris. I am so not offended by your opinions !! I am a Christian, and personally I could not care less about the last supper moment but I think it was a huge mistake to do this while the whole world was watching. And the raunchy moments were a little too much as well in my opinion, for the same reason. I don't like sports so I did not watch the games but I really enjoyed your video, it was very interesting.

But wait...the latest in the sage of the bronze medal for floor is that the American OC had proof that they did submit within the time limit. But then they were told they don't accept appeals in this regard. What a mess! I appreciate your thoughts on these moments. You explain it so eloquently. Thank you.

So glad you made this video! As a (very) amateur boxer I was following that sport more closely and if you see the whole field of contestants it is so different than the clips on the internet. No one is a shrinking violet in boxing, let’s just say. That said, with combat sports I think we need to proceed with extra caution due to athlete safety (that’s why they don’t even do a bronze medal fight) - it’s more than just advantage due to build. But I agree this was absolutely the worst way for the issue to play out. I really hope the OGC gets it together in the next 4 years to develop clear, fair, universal, transparent standards and tests for the athletes who compete.

Charlotte clearly doesn't understand the massive difference in punching power between males and females. Nor does she appreciate the right of females to fairness and safety in sport. She was speaking from a position of ignorance and stupidity. Her views on this topic are disgustingly misogynistic.

Ok, Charlotte, I respect your point if view on this but I did an extensive research and it turns out the DNA test was done in an independent laboratory in India (the second one), this athlete along with the Tai one failed 2 DNA tests and the condition they officially shared they have means they have DSD which means all body development and DNA is male (except for the external part). If all this is true, they should not be competing against women as male athletes have all this advantages of muscle mass, bone density, lung capacity and 167% stronger punch than women. This means women’s safety should be the main issue here. The correct thing to do is for them to do proper testing if they disregard all previous results and decide based on only science. Our personal feelings have nothing to do with fair play in sports. I support all people living their authentic lives but if gender is in question I think it should be taken seriously as female atheists have worked hard for a place in this tournaments and deserve nothing but 100% fairness. Where is smoke, there is always fire. P.S. Actually a DNA test is 100% reliable. I have done one when I was pregnant. All they look for is chromosomes. In pregnant women if the test shows XY it means it is a boy, as mothers have only XX. Long story, short, if these tests are deemed untrue but so many female athletes have this issue with the whole situation it should he cleared in a doctor’s office and not by any other means.

I have also done extensive research and Imane is eligible and cleared to compete in the Olympics by the IOCs own rules and therefore she should have been allowed to do so like everyone else without speculation about what is between her legs 🤷‍♀️

I totally agree with what you have said. I was crying when I watched Khelif’s opening bout against Angela Carini who very wisely bowed out of the match during the first minute as she was punched so severely I feared if she’d carried on she could have ended up in hospital. Khelif may plead to have been brought up as a woman but has all the physical muscle and strength of a man. Totally outrageous.

Sorry, but this isn't accurate. Having a DSD does not automatically mean that "all body development and DNA is male". There are many types of DSD with varying presentations. Some DSD are a result of chimerism or mosaicism, so varying cells will have different karyotypes. It's possible for humans to have some cells that are XX and some that are XY, and those people MAY present with a DSD, or they may appear phenotypically "normal". There's a lot of variety here, so this is very simplified. Not all DSD necessarily confer an athletic advantage, either. So honestly, without knowing EXACTLY what the situation is (which I'd argue isn't the public's business anyway), everything about Imane is just speculation at this point.

@hbarlaam totally agree with your last point. It's not our business. The IOC have the last say on who can compete in their competition.

The IOC could have sorted this controversy out by testing those athletes. Saying they are ‘born female’ isn’t good enough just because their passports say so. A male can have externally female, or ambiguous looking genitals, be raised as a female, but have internal testes and go through male puberty. I think all women should be tested to maintain the integrity of female sports. The categories are there to ensure fairness and safety

Charlotte thanks for this video, I always enjoy watching the Olympics and I was happy to see you enjoy it too. I've been following the whole Gymnastics bronze saga and it's just to heartbreaking for all the gymnast involved. But from what I understood the whole thing was more complicated because the other Romanian gymnast (Sabrina) had an incorrect score too (she was given a deduction for stepping out of boundaries but the video footage shows she didn't. Her coaches appealed but the appeal form was for difficulty score instead of the penalty score and was rejected by the judges. If the score was given correctly to all gymnasts Sabrina would have won bronze. But this whole story is just devastating to everyone involved. It truly shows how faulty the judging rules are for this sport 😢

Also Sabrina had received a lower difficulty score than she had received in team final competition, with the exact same routine. So yes, if the judges had scored correctly, Sabrina would have won bronze.

Jordan Chiles team provided a letter and video evidence to show they requested the appeal within the 1 minute deadline, but the organization that decides who gets the medal, said it didn’t matter and they are still taking away her medal. :( they need to award both Chiles and the Romanian gymnasts the bronze. Completely agree with the criticism of the opening ceremony, although the heavy metal performing in the court where Marie Antoinette met her fate was kinda cool, but still not exactly family friendly with models dancing in the windows with their head chopped off. The only other thing that was controversial was the Dutch player for Volleyball. 10 years ago, when he was 19, he was charged with SA and went to prison. He was 19 victim was 12. Crowds booed him and there were protesters outside his venue. If he served his time and is now living a law abiding life, did he deserve a chance to go to the Olympics? Lastly, I’m a newbie to your channel and you are absolutely wonderful! Found you for beauty content, but I’m enjoying the movies, books, and other topics you talk about. I’ve been following the gymnastics stuff the closest and it’s awful. Both gymnasts have been subjected to so much racist/xenophobic hate from both sides online, and none of it is their fault - Jordan’s coaches were the ones that submitted the inquiry, not her. Both she and Ana have been emotionally traumatized…and it’s still going. And not to mention the other Romanian gymnast Sabrina, who was dinged for stepping out of bounds (but looking at replays, it doesn’t look like she did?). She would have been in the mix for bronze, too. It’s totally the fault of the judges/FIG/IOC and these athletes are suffering. It’s a disaster.

the judges didn't actually make a mistake with Chiles' routine the element shouldn't have been credited because it wasn't executed correctly. seems to me like they felt pressure to change after the inquiry either because federations have to pay for it/it was the end of the event and they were rushed. these judges also made a mistake with the other Romanian gymnast - they gave her a deduction for stepping out of bounds when she didnt. the Romanians asked for an additional bronze medal but the IOC declined and now poor Ana is getting so much hate online for something which isn't her fault

In the shooting game of Skeet, clay pigeons are what is shot at with a shotgun. It may be helpful to know that a shotgun does not shoot a single bullet. It is not like a handgun or a rifle or TV show. One bullet has a lot of little beads in it, and they sort of spray. If the clay pigeon was hit, it may not have been directly. I’m not familiar with the particulars of this incident but wanted to give the background information. Ana being in 3rd it was assumed she was bronze. It was not awarded. The time for appeal is there to avoid having to revoke medals. This wasn’t in good faith by Romania.

Always loving a more in depth video especially about this olympics which I enjoyed a lot despite the criticism, but I absolutely adore Paris 😄 On Ana/Jordan, I am sorry but much like the technicality of the USA team being able to go to the judges and dispute a result, so should the Romanian olympic committee be able to rely on those 3 seconds of the appeal being submitted too late (we all know how important a matter of seconds are during the olympics and rules are rules). Personally, as a Romanian (living in London though for 10 years), I am proud that a small country stood its ground against the big USA (who also appealed waay after again via its olympic committee but was denied). That being said, both gymnasts should have had the bronze and got their spotlight, much like everyone wanted 🫶🏻

The Olympic games are meant to find the individuals,which are the most talented and work the hardest. We have 2 cathegories - men and women. And slowly we have issues, with definitions, what distinguishes them. If not chromosomes, then what? If not chromosomes, then we could have only one cathegory - people. Those with XX would never win anything. But that would be just the same situation as at the Olympic games in female boxing. So I would say if we let compete XY individuals im female cathegory, we do not need that cathegory at all.....
@CharlotteHoldcroft
@CharlotteHoldcroft 2 ай бұрын
Unfortunately chromosomes are not as black and white as that. Cases like this where Imane has a mixture of male and female chromosomes means that she doesn't perfectly fit either definition traditionally...
@Zulumutufu
@Zulumutufu 2 ай бұрын
@@CharlotteHoldcroft I understand that. But to say that something DOES NOT is always easier than to say what DOES. So what is the distiguishing criteria for qualifications into male or female sport cathegory? I hope you would not say something as a "word" on a piece of paper as ID (in many coutries changeable based on feeling/wish). Because then we would not need the sport cathegory male and female at all. The chromosomes might not be perfect/fair for 100 percent of the cases but it is still the best we have. Unless you know anything better?

@@CharlotteHoldcroft to ensure that women’s sports remain a fair and safe space, it’s essential that thorough and objective analyses are conducted, including an examination of chromosomes and hormone levels. If athletes are indeed real women, as they identify, these analyses should be straightforward and transparent. Understanding the chromosomal makeup is crucial because it directly impacts physical attributes that can provide a competitive advantage. The goal should not be to complicate matters but to protect the rights and safety of female athletes.

Your commentary specially on Iman was so eye opening ❤
@lavienestpasunlongfleuvetr2559

It was incredibly stupid. Charlotte is about as ignorant as it gets on the topic. Iman has a DSD, a disorder of sexual development, meaning that he was INCORRECTLY identified as 'female' at birth. According to biologists who have examined his case, he is likely fully male, but because of a genetic disorder, his body lacked a protein to make a penis. This means that he went through male puberty, and thus he has MALE advantage over his female opponents. For Charlotte to equate this advantage with any other form of competitive advantage is just plain stupid. Why on earth do you think males and females are segregated in sport in the first place? It's not for fun! It's because males, on average, have such an overwhelming advantage over females in most sports that if they had to compete against eachother, there would be no female competitors in the Olympics! And we see this with Iman and a Thai boxer, both biological males (aka MEN) dominating female athletes in the female category. For Charlotte to defend the assault of female athletes by males is utterly dispicable. Yet another point she missed on this is the fact that in the sense that both of these athletes are MALE, they're no different than trans-identifying men. Neither type of man belongs in the female category, regardless of how they see themselves. While men with DSDs should be shown compassion, they should never be given the right to compete against women when they've gone through MALE puberty. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, to segregate the sexes because of male advantage, but let some males (who still have male advantage) compete in the female category.

I don't think comment can be passed on the 2 boxers who participated in the female rounds.The IOC are at fault for not having clear policies and guidelines, ensuring accurate testing,confidentiality of participant's and importantly the safety of women,in what is a dangerous sport.There are experts in sport biology better placed to pass comment on this sensitive issue.

I think they are playing games with the public by saying it was all about Dionysus. The scene was basically Dionysus, the hedonistic, pagan god of wine, being delivered to the last supper and taking it over. It was a bigger insult to Christians and the friends of Christians than many people even imagined. The people participating in the ceremony even posted on social media that it was the last supper before the backlash.

And I heard, (haven't looked into it yet. I will get to it when I have a moment to dig) that the French government or or Olympic officials apologized for their mockery of the last supper. If that's true, then definitely what you said is also true. It certainly looked that way to me.

@monak2069 I am French and the government did not apologize because first, it's not their doings. Second France is a country where religion is not sacred for the entire country so if someone wants to mock religion, criticize religion or use religion in an artistic way they are absolutely allowed to do it even if that can offend people. So that would be very hypocritical for the government to apologize even if that was their own doing since they make the law and have to make the law be respected. Just like non religious people may walk on the street and be approached by Jeovah witnesses or non religious people have to deal with Christmas celebrations being all other the country. Or religious ceremony being filmed live on National tv with the taxes of everyone... Same for most French churches or even catholic private schools who are paid by the entire population although most of the population is not even Christians. The team who organized the opening only apologized that their artistic view / interpretation of a "wide open" olympics which was their chosen theme offended some people since in their view it was not their goal. And I do know both Christians who were offended and other who were not since they don't even consider this painting La Scene as part of their religion practice and believe anyway.

Love most of your videos relating to make up. Unpopular opinion: I respectfully disagree with your views on IK - Humans have 23 rpair of chromosomes, 22 are called autosomes and sex is determined by the 23rd chromosome pair also called sex chromosomes - XX being females,XY leads to male progeny. If you test your 23rd pair of chromosome it will be XX if you are biological female.(in all your cells) With IK,she may have DSD, it seems she had failed the test it as test turned out XY and she did not choose to appeal.XY will provide more testosterone and therefore more strength and physical prowess,more lung capacity as compared to a woman.Its not fair for other biological women XX to get bashed by someone who is naturally stronger because of presence of Y chromose(XY).That too destroys sportsmanship spirit and endangers biological women. Women safety is more important in any sports more than inclusivity,according to me. What would have been ideal is she could competed with someone similar to her genetic make up.

The worst part about the “mistake“ that they made with Jordan Chiles is that they had watched her in practice and gave her a starting score based on her rehearsal! What the judges failed to realize is that Jordan added things to the routine that they didn’t see, and didn’t bother to notice, during the competition. They should not ask Jordan to give back that metal and if I were Jordan, I would “lose it“.
@Charlottec968
@Charlottec968 2 ай бұрын
that's not how it works. the athletes put together a group of elements which all have a numerical value which is added together to create a difficulty score, this is not fixed and often fluctuates depending on how 'safe' they play a routine, how well its executed etc. the judges only go off what is done in front of them. coaches and gymnasts know the start value theyre expecting but with Jordan she attempted a gogean leap but didnt get all the way around (which tbh ive never seen her do it properly but the US federation never take things out when they clearly should get deducted) so it was rightly downgraded to a lower difficulty score. there is no 'rehearsal' theres qualification for the finals which many gymnasts do different routines and theres warm ups which are obviously not judged as theyre not full routines

Charlotte, I agree with everything you said. As a Canadian I had a few more issues than those you mentioned. The closing ceremonies were terrible and that Tom Cruise stunt was a joke. I’m also curious why the French chose to have Snoop Dog, Lady Gaga and Celine in the opening ceremonies. None of them are French and Celine is French Canadian! The dialect is even different. Do the French not have their own artists they could feature? I thought the idea was to showcase the many talents of the host country? I completely support all the athletes with a hspecial spot for the Canadians. It’s the judges and organizers who I have issues with. Can we not just concentrate on sport and celebrate all those who actually made it to the Olympics? I’m proud of everyone who participated plus the volunteers.

Hi Charlotte, completeley agree with you but not on broze medal for floor gimnastics. The US was 5th on score board. You have a limited time to reply if you don’t agree. The US team reply out of this time & what people doesn’t understand is that you can pass from 5th to 3rd. Agree, a jury has a job & sometimes they mistakes things. But it was not fair for the Romanian. Now it’s fair: she’s bronze but both could not enjoy the ceremony on the way they deserve: the romanian there & the US that has to give back her medal.

Oh i actually really liked the opening ceremony, so modern and vibrant and inclusive. Shameful, heartbreaking and infuriating what happened with Imane! Oh the bronze metal gate, there was another romanian gymnast penalised for stepping out of bounds which she never did,but because they appealed for something else did not get her deduction removed....terrible judging... One of the highlights for me was the mens pole vaulting final! Amazing from Mondo Duplantis.

The opening ceremony was magic and I was glued to the TV. I didn`t miss a second of it! The choreography became more and more dramatic until the olympic fire was lit and then Celine Dion sang from above the Eiffel Tower. Because of this grand opening I really became interested in watching the games.
