I respectfully have to disagree with you. I would not recommend CompTIA A+ at all. Sure, learn the material but don’t waste your time taking those two tests. You can get a Help Desk job with any kind of IT experience so i would do a mini project and getting something better like Net+ or Sec+. The CCNA is a GREAT certification and the cloud networking is still built off of the fundamentals of on-prem networks. Most large companies are Cisco shops so you might as well go with the standard. AZ-104 and AWS SAA are not entry level certs although they are both very good (AWS is even better). Definitely agree with you here tho. Network Engineer. $125k. A+, CCNA, CCNP, AZ-900, AZ-104, among other certs. Just my thoughts.

Hey mate 👋 The main reason I suggested Net+ over CCNA is because Net+ is more general than CCNA. Imo Net+ sets you up better for a Cloud Networking Cert (if you want to pursue it, AZ-104 and AWS SAA is still my recommendation) as a good portion of the CCNA material has some tailoring towards their products, which you realistically aren’t going to use in a Cloud role. To add to my point, we’re starting to see the emerging role of “Cloud Network Engineer”. If you want to be a Network Engineer on-prem, absolutely take CCNA. My audience is mainly Cloud/DevOps so I need to be somewhat bias in my videos towards those engineering roles. I neither disagree or agree with your comment but appreciate your points :)

@@techtoby_ I can understand that so I agree with your Net+ preference over CCNA. It really does depend on your audience so I see your point of view. Thank you for sharing. I’m actually trying to get a cloud engineer role so thanks for any advice that you’re sharing. It all helps.

Hi Toby, I want to get into the path of cloud security, I have knowledge of cybersecurity, hacking and programming with python, I have never worked in IT, my plan is to start with aws partitioner, and then continue with solution arch and then sec, do you think I could get into some work? My doubt, is if I have to do some SOC path (blue team) or directly I go for cloud, and the last doubt is if I need to do comptia sec+ (I have the knowledge from other courses, but I can't afford the price of the certification for the moment) or with aws partitioner is it ok? Thank you very much for your time.

Hey Mate, you roadmap sounds ok but I think you will still benefit from a SOC or another related role like help desk, sysadmin etc. Going straight to Cloud Security isn’t impossible, but particularly difficult without experience as it’s a specialised role of Cloud Engineering

As someone with no experience in tech, i'm interested in becoming a dev ops engineer, i'm not sure whether to get the comptia + cert first and then try get a helpdesk job or should I just learn the dev ops tech stack straightaway, get the relevant certs as you mentioned and build projects etc?

To be honest some of the tooling and knowledge for devops can also be gained by working on a help desk. For example, when I worked on a help desk one way I progressed was learning to code with Powershell, which you’d use in an Azure DevOps role. I still think for non experienced help desk is the best bet as it can propel you to greater heights. No experience trying to land a Junior DevOps role isn’t impossible, but it will take more time as you’re competing with graduates, bootcampers and experienced juniors.

@techtoby_ yeah bro it’s just I don’t want to waste time and money on getting the Comptia cert and then still struggle to get a help desk job as there’s no guarantee, when I could of just spent the time/money learning the tech stack I need to become a devops engineer.
