I used to take ginkgo capsules to improve my memory. Then years back I started taking bee propolis to treat a gastric issue and noticed it improved my memory quite significantly. From then on, I have been taking bee propolis instead of ginkgo and it has been helping greatly.

I remember that decades back a Forever Living member used to tell me that bee propolis could boost brain power. I forgot about it. But my discovery of bee propolis to enhance memory years back was by accident. I used to take ginkgo and I found that it was getting less and less effective for memory. Then bee propolis gave so much a boost to my memory that was just so palpable and I had to switch to it. Now my whole family is taking it.

Most of it is used as a therapy directly from the sting, as opposed to a supplement. I have found one company which has it in their honey, and one which has it in supplemeny form. Actually I´ve never heard about a Bee Venom Supplement, in fact it could be quite dangerous to consume it due to the high risk of an allergic reaction. It is quite different have it injected on the first layers of your skin by the bee compared to consuming it. I would not do it to be honest.

Hi there, thanks so much for your question. Each product has a different harvest. This means that you can only produce honey or propolis or royal jelly and so on. Sometimes you can produce two products simultaneously, like honey and propolis, but their harvest is independent of each other. So, when you harvest a product, it does not mean that you will also produce all the other products. For each product you need dedicated equipment, preparation, management and so on. I thought you got all of them from a harvest really and just wondered what percentage was each one. Also how do you separate them out etc. Surely if they are always making royal jelly for the queen, then this should be there in all harvests? I thought the honeycomb hexagonal bits were the propolis and the actual honey was inside the centres of the hexagons, hence my confusion. A diagram or photo would do actually just to show where each bit is stored.

Awesome question. Bee propolis can only be extracted in Alcohol or Water, in your case a water based extract would be the best, but you wouldn´t be able to mix it with oil as it will separate. My best suggestion would be Bee Propolis Tablets or Capsules, as it would be a pure extract without the solvent (alcohol or water). Probably, next year we will release a Bee Propolis Tablets product. Hi there Addis, thanks for your question. You could sell your propolis raw, that is the easiest. Or if you have some equipment you can make propolis extract and sell it in that form, that is the hardest. About where to sell it, it would depende where you are in the world, but your best bet is with other local beekeeping companies that trade with bee products. Cheers.

Autoimmune diseases are very tricky to treat as is the the body attacking itself, bee products my help in alleviating symptoms depending on the disease. Hey Denis, what makes the difference in natural potency is the type of propolis used (brown, green, red) and the type of extraction (alcohol, water or both), as type of propolis and extraction method will extract different types and amounts of flavonoids contained in propolis. Region does not impact potency.

If you are talking about raw bee propolis, it can´t be taken as it is, it has to be extracted in a lab with alcohol or water in a complicated long process, is not something that is easily done in a home setup. After extraction, the propolis extract can be taken straight mixed with water, can be mixed with honey and/or other ingredients, or can be freeze dried to make a dry extract to be converted in tablets/capsules. Hi Amir, if you keep hives other than in trees, your best bet is to get propolis collector like these: www.mannlakeltd.com/10-frame-propolis-trap With collectors like that you just put them on top of the hive and after a couple of weeks you scrape off the propolis and let the collector on the hive again, then repeat. With propolis that is the best you can find, green bee propolis has the highest amounts of anti-oxidants, especially from a family of compounds called Flavonoids. However, in vivo studies are much harder and complicated so there is no evidence through in vivo studies to corroborate that. Hi Gisela, unfortunately bee propolis can´t be consumed in raw form. Or you can consume it but it won´t taste good for one and it won´t be digested properly and its healthy components won´t be efficiently absorbed by the body. Bee propolis in raw form has to be extracted in the lab using high proof alcohol, agitated for a long time and then mixed with other ingredients like honey or essential oils so it is flavorful and its components properly absorbed.

Apart from the green organic propolis , can normal bee propolis be consumed raw form without processing with alcohol etc.

@@juanghee it could be consumed raw. But the digestive system won’t have the ability nor time to process it and extract bio compounds. It would be like swallowing chewing gum.

Hi Ka Yau Siu, thanks so much for your question. Allergic reactions in general from propolis or any other substance may be of concern. Now, consider that allergic reactions vary in severity, it can be mild with some discomfort or a headache, or it can be moderate with some local pain or a generalized rash. Severe allergic reactions are problematic, they are called anaphylactic shock and it is the swelling of your throat which causes difficulty to breath and that can kill you. The most problematic substances are proteins, and because propolis does not contain proteins it is very rare to cause an allergic response. Please let me know if I can help you further. Cheers.

Hi there, thanks for your question. An allergic reaction specially if it happens every time you eat or get in contact with a substance is worrisome. I would suggest first to ask your doctor. Second, you could reduce the dosage by half and start taking it from there. Third, check the ingredients on the propolis you are taking, as propolis would be very rare to cause an allergic reaction and it could be that there are other ingredients in the mix that could cause it. You should have mentioned the propolis allergy. I researched it when I got it, apparently many beekeepers get it from too much exposure. Propolis should be treated as a potent medicine, not some food stuff.

Hey there, thanks for your comment. I´ve been working with bees for over 25 years and this is the first time I hear about a Propolis allergy, a bee pollen allergy could be more plausible but I´ve not known or heard about someone getting it for over exposure. Usually allergies come from certain proteins of different foods or substances. Bee propolis does not contain proteins. If you by chance have peer reviewed literature you can share I would appreciate it. Cheers

@@Letstalkaboutbeeproducts I got it myself after liberally using propolis products for some time. Got confirmation in several places, frequency and amount of exposure matters, the body may find it too much. But you can look for "peer reviewed literature" yourself 😉

Hi there Kamya, unfortunately the scientific results on this are not conclusive. Some studies show a reduction in blood glucose and other don´t. What is clear is that propolis indeed improves antioxidant function in Diabetic patients. Now, it won´t cause further harm on these patients so they can include propolis as part of their treatment and see if it can help. Let me know if I can be of further help. Cheers.
