Good job! I have been feeding Purina Dog Chow to a variety of dogs I have owned over the years with good results, each has lived to be pretty old with no major health complications, (about 8 dogs in all, each with an average life span of at least 12 years or older / approx 50 lb dogs) So I cant say I have had poor results with the product. HOWEVER your video has encouraged me to research other possible more health alternatives. Thanks!!!

Idk, I grew up with 4 dogs (at one point all at one time), each lived between 15 and 18 years. They all ate the "bad" dog food. So, ummm. How bad is bad when they all lived full and healthy lives? I currently have 2 one year old labs and a 7 year old Pyrenees, same food, so far, same results.

Nearly all dogs shed but brushing once or twice a week will take care of most of that as well as stimulate the oil glands helping to reduce dander which is where the smell comes from. I 'm looking at Pedigree Complete Nutrition Roasted Chicken, Rice & Vegetable Flavor dog kibble adult dry food - main ingredient corn, then rendered unnamed meat and bone meal (hello euthanasia drug also destroyed nutrients by rendering it), BHA is a controversial ingredient, soybean meal - yay! Then we have "natural flavor" whatever that is, chicken by-product meal, dried plain beet pulp (can lower taurine levels), and salt and a pile of dyes and synthetic nutrients. YAY. Your dogs are living to average ages (or what should be considered average ages, now that purebred dog health is failing so badly).

I bought Alpo only once. Alpo gave my APBT really bad shits when he was a puppy and it smelled really bad and it was unnatural amount of poop he had when he was small. Then i switch him to Pedigree High Protein and it gotten better in his stools but still bad. Then again switch to Rachel Ray and he loved that soo much but i wanted my dog to build more muscle and have that athletic build. Now i feed him Purina Pro Plan Sport which improved on him but ive been seeing 50/50 reviews about the Purina Pro Plan and i dont want to have doubts and i want the best dog for my APBTs. Anyone recommend anything else? Ps. I will not do Raw food due to being so costly

There are a lot of great foods on the market, and some even at grocery and big box stores! You can always go to dogfoodadvisor.com to look up what you're feeding and get their review of it. They don't take advertisers or manufacturers money so their reviews are highly respected. In Texas, Heritage Ranch is sold in HEB grocery stores, and even Costco's dog food gets pretty good reviews!

A tip for everyone here looking for better food. Look for something with no artificial coloring or flavors. Keep away from foods that have alfalfa, corn, wheat, and soy. If you read the ingredients list, they put it from number one ingredient, to the least used one. Anything after salt, is under 1%

chow is legally not considered food, that's why it has to be labeled chow..... who knows what is in there. I would steer clear of it. I worked in a veterinary clinic, saw 1/3 of cases were due to food issues. @@nancyritland9116 I do relize that some dogs eat the same food all their life, but I switch my dogs brand of dog food very often because he gets bored with his food quickly, and its actually healthier for them to do that anyways. I do add raw egg to my dogs food pretty often and some other things like vegetables. He also gets plenty of bones, toys and treats. Bones mainly because he is a border collie and they can get bored easily, but he does sleep during the day so its not a huge problem.

If you don't believe it all you have to do is look at the ingredient label on dog food to find out if it's good or bad. The ones they listed are all full of fillers that provide no nutritional value to your dog. So yes it's cheaper food but you are spending your money on filler instead of substance.

Its not just opinions, Worked in a veterinary clinic myself for many years, I can attest to what they say here. I too also hate vet recommended pet food, clinics get a super cheap exclusivity deal on those foods if they sell them in their clinic. Also vets really don't know much about diet unless they specialize in that field. Learn to read the labels on the back of your pet food and it will be eye opening. You don't have to pay alot for decent food, but for pete's sake spending 10-20 cents a day of dog food isn't good at all for your pet. I just rescued a Newfoundland from my Neighbor she is moving and can’t take with but that been said , I would guess she is about 115 pounds, and she has been abused and she has mats on her hair. so did my parents for my dogs, but I saw issues with them latter on in life that now I realize may have contributed to their latter in life health troubles. its too late now and I wonder if I would have gotten a year or two more from my beloved pets before they left this world. I Worked in a veterinary clinic myself for many years, I can attest to what they say here. I too also hate vet recommended pet food, clinics get a super cheap exclusivity deal on those foods if they sell them in their clinic. Also vets really don't know much about diet unless they specialize in that field. Take a moment to Learn to read the labels on the back of your pet food and it will be eye opening. You don't have to pay alot for decent food, but for pete's sake spending 10-20 cents a day of dog food isn't good at all for your pet. We used to have dogs way back and all we had was corn. We fed them corn bread and corn meal mush. A lot of it. Those dogs did very well. More BS spouted off by "experts".

I've been there done that with low income and budgeting, so I know the shoes you might be walking in. Costco membership may seem like a steep price, but the savings in gasoline and dog food alone more than makes up for it. don't get much else honestly from there, but it has done wonders for me. if I didn't have costco, whole hearted and pure balance would be my other choices, but the quality isn't as good and the price not as good either in comparison. I worked many years in a veterinary clinic so I do have a background in these things, its not just some wild opinion. (On a side note, yes I hate vet recommended brands too. I will let you in on a secret.... the clinic gets exclusivity deals on food for the food they use in clinic ...so yes its garbage... also most vets honest to goodness know little to nothing about food unless they specialize in it. @@hunterurban5465 No, that was not my thing, but I have moved on to a 66 percent canned to 34 percent dry and my dog has never been happier. I still won't spend $200 a month on the best dog food. He runs 30 mph and for no snow coat, he sits on top of his dog at 10 degrees Fahrenheit. I love him, but I do not baby him.

Good job! I have been feeding Purina Dog Chow to a variety of dogs I have owned over the years with good results, each has lived to be pretty old with no major health complications, (about 8 dogs in all, each with an average life span of at least 12 years or older / approx 50 lb dogs) So I cant say I have had poor results with the product. HOWEVER your video has encouraged me to research other possible more health alternatives. Thanks!!!

I feed pro plan from Purina and have been feeding Purina to many horses over the years as well as dogs, cats etc. Purina has been feeding animals for many years and our animals have lived long happy lives. I don't think Purina is a bad dog food at all. I will continue feeding it, our dogs are healthy and shiny and have lots of energy.
