I love the shade “for some reason people decide to feed their dog kibble” like not everyone can afford to feed a raw diet everyday.
@Okamisou3 жыл бұрын
Ive calculated it, depending on what you get if you go for on sale meats it can average out about $1.50-$2.00per lb of raw foods where as a decent kibble brands can be around $2.50-3.00 So it breaks even or can be cheaper depending on how you do it. The only sucky part for raw foods is the prep and clean up.

Our old dog developed kidney issues due to a poor quality kibble, we didn't know better and trusted the vet until she hit kidney failure (age 15). At that point we switched to a high quality grain free filler free food as well as some more homemade stuff (eggs, vegetables, chicken, turkey and brown rice) to supplement. She lived until 20 but the food change made it so she no longer needed all the meds. Our puppy now has addisons and is incredibly picky food wise. We got her to finally eat a dehydrated raw food after trying a bunch of kibble and wet foods. It's expensive but she's small and a little goes far. We noticed a big change.

Say what you will about hills. My basset hound struggled with allergies, dry skin, shedding quite a bit. Tried multiple foods and hills works for him. He’s happy as hell. Doesn’t chew his feet anymore after being in the grass. His coat is shiny and he doesn’t have dry skin anymore. Simply from hills. Just like diets for humans, dogs are all different as well. What works for one may not work for another. I’m grateful for hills giving me a happy basset. I’ll stick to experience vs someone reading online and then passing it off as original content.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to ruin the brand, I'm just sharing and raising awareness. Up until, the case is still ongoing. I do wish I could feed them a raw diet but I just simply couldn’t afford to do it properly. I’m not sure if you have ready made a video like this and I just have t seen it, but could you make a video on the expenses of feeding your dogs in a week? Not to scare you but ToTW is currently or maybe always was very high in lead, heavy metals and other toxins. The worst offenders usually in all food in general is fish heavy foods and in this case the boar/beef is high in lead more lead then a house in the US someplace. You'll need to look it up on The Truth About Pet Food for more info. Clean Label Project shows toxin levels but they also say that Ol'roy is good so I think they are a bit biased, but the tests themselves aern't. It's based on a really weird star system, best to just press on the food and see the results.

For people feeding premade food of any kind (kibble, canned, dehydrated, frozen, etc) I'd highly recommend rotating foods often; I don't trust any brand to be so perfectly balanced as to feed solely long term; you wouldn't eat the exact same thing every day. I check for good quality of ingredients first; if the protein level or something else is not quite what I want I can make up for it with a different food that balances it out that also has good ingredients :) If your dog has been fed the same food long term they'll need time to transition since they've developed a weak gut, and make sure to avoid foods that have any of your dog's allergens (If you don't know what those are an elimination diet is in order). My dog is doing so much better since I've started doing this, and no longer needs a transition time; I mix and rotate foods constantly. Your dog may always need a transition time but I think it's worth doing, your dog will thank you!!

Thank you!!!!! I was buying my puppy (now age1) Royal canin and switching between many of these brands since my husky can be a picky eater and get bored of the same diet. I’ve been considering going back to Royal canin but WOW not anymore!!!! Definitely keeping taste of the wilderness and Nutro in the top 2 🙏 😃😍

Thank you for making this video. I knew royal canin and hills science diet are complete garbage but my 2 vets recommend both of them. I always look at the ingredients of kibble to check for fillers. What do you think of Merrick? Also Victor is popular amongst my friends and I wanna try it for my dog

Thank you for this! I do have a question, if you have a moment? My lab passed away recently. I had been feeding him taste of the wild for the past 6 or 7 months because, like you, I found it to be a great choice. I am in no way saying the food contributed to my dogs death. He was older, and although his blood work came back normal, he stopped eating and became ill quickly and we did not know the ultimate cause of death. The vet thought it may have been a type of stomach cancer or another form of cancer undetectable by blood work. Any way, like I said, I don't believe the food was a contributing factor, but with the recent news from the FDA, I am very afraid and confused on what to feed my next dog. We are looking at puppies, and I don't know now if taste of the wild is still the right choice. My dog passing and the possible health risk is scary. Can you offer some input please? Thank you!

I'm sooo happy I found this video. I was just about to buy Purina One dry puppy food. I been feeding my puppies this dry food when they turned 2 months old they are 4 months and a few weeks old now. And I just can't believe it no wonder my babies coats are soo dry. I'm so upset with my self, but I'm happy that right now I can make a better choice and feed my babies the right way. Soo thank you soo much Nutro is where I'll goo 👍🏽

Great video ! Have you thought of Trying to make a review for store brand raw food? I’ve been doing Instinct chicken recipe for my Amstaff puppy and it’s amazing but it’s so pricey, currently keeping him in there till 6 months until I transition to a freeze dried kibble or 50/50 raw/kibble mix . Btw great Bubs ;P

Took a my new puppy to the vet today for her first shots. This is not my normal vet, with the vaccination schedule I found a place much closer to home for her shots. Dude lectured me for feeding my other dog Taste of the Wild. Puppy is on Diamond Naturals, planning to switch her but that's what the person I got her from was feeding. Why do vets recommend Science Diet so much? I tried that with my adult dog and she was always constipated. Every poop was tough on her. She is healthy, plenty of energy for a large 10yo dog. Never a health issue.

My Miniature Schnauzer is almost on the winning side of a hard fight with pancreatitis and immune mediated polyarthritis, where he temporarily lost his ability to walk. He will need to be on a low fat food, moving forward. The vet is recommending Royal Canin Gastro Low Fat, but my dog has been on quality (animal protein, healthy veggies) grain free foods all his life and I don’t like the ingredient profile of this food. I have sense found out about Solid Gold Fit and Fabulous (Chicken, Sweet Potato, Green Bean formula), which is both grain free and low fat. Can you share your opinion on this brand, and particularly, the profile of this dog food specifically?

The thing is, vets aren’t trained that much on nutrition and they just normally name name brands. Do not trust what ur vet recommends for animal food.

A raw diet is the BEST option for dogs. You should check out the documentary 'PET FOOLED' on Netflix - it is shocking what companies put in pet food. It is our responsibility as owners to ensure that our pets are healthy and happy.

I work at a pet store and I hate recommending Blue Buffalo. Too many people bring back open bags saying their dogs had complications with the food or they just wouldn’t eat. Plus the brand really hits the whole grain- free niche hard. But my coworkers are always quick to convince people Blue Buffalo is a safe and blanket option for dogs.

Can you rate small dog formula dog foods? (Cesar, Purina Beneful)
@j.u.46884 жыл бұрын
Blue Buffalo Wilderness uses peas, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and alfalfa to bump up the amount of protein. It is plant protein vice animal protein which is completely different meanwhile the carbohydrates are around 36% according to dog food advisor. Carbohydrates should only be around 5% to no more than 14%. That’s the problem with almost all dry dog food...high carbohydrates and using higher plant protein to boost the overall protein of the kibble. Plant protein is a lot harder to digest than animal protein for dogs, but it’s cheaper to use in dog food.
@henznx93384 жыл бұрын
So should I feed my dog this?
@j.u.46884 жыл бұрын
Henznx I’ll be honest with you...I went from kibble - to premium kibble - to fresh commercial - to DIY cooked meals - to combo DIY raw/commercial raw (sold only online). It was a gradual progression over six years. I have been feeding raw for two years now. My dogs have been doing very well. My Older dogs (which have passed) did kibble, home and then fresh cooked. The three dogs I have now have only done home cooked and/or just raw. Their carbs are only around 7 - 13 %. Two of my dogs can’t do grains, especially corn. My other dog can’t do legumes. All kibble has has one or a combination of those. Causes bloody diarrhea and vomit over time for them. I was able to figure this out through eliminating foods, which is easy to do on a raw or cooked diet. You can try freeze-dried for the meals, if you don’t want to go down that route like Stella and Chewy’s, Northwest Naturals, Honest Kitchen, or maybe Primal. Just a suggestion. I give freeze-dried as a snack for the dogs. Hope this helps. Good luck.

J. U. Ok thank you I’m getting a dog soon and I’m having a hard time trying to figure out what food to get him
@j.u.46884 жыл бұрын
Henznx the highest quality is raw, then freeze-dried, then dehydrated, followed by fresh cooked. After that is canned followed up by dry kibble. You are going from the least processed/freshest to the most processed/non fresh in that order. People have differing opinions on raw, but for those like me who have been doing it for a while, I think the dangers are overblown. I use a commercial online raw company for my dogs’ food. It meets the AAFCO standards. I have a vet that supports me and helps. In the end I believe fresh, minimally processed is best over dry kibble. However, people have to decide what’s best for their pet.
