I'm just pulling this out of my ass but the reliability problems with the STG are mostly likely due to them being 80 years old at this point and shot to hell, you would be hard pressed finding a pre ban machine gun that still runs flawlessly with original parts, and parts for the STG are not exactly something you can find in the shelves of your average gun store.
@JamesReeves

You could be correct.
@kurtbergh
@kurtbergh 10 ай бұрын
It's certainly that way with the Luger. They're actually quite reliable when your gun and magazine springs are not a 100 years old. European 9mm is also slightly hotter than American, which is another reason why Parabellums are more highly regarded here. Also, a lot of countries' militaries used them. Here in Finland, they were in service into the 90s.

The Hi Point C9 was my first semi-auto, and it's a great gun for the price. The people at Hi Point are awesome, and their customer service is top-notch. I had a few issues with my old used $90 toolbox gun, so I sent it back to Hi Point to see what they could do. They replaced my clapped out c9 with a brand new c9 and included 2 new magazines. They also transferred the serial number, so it was the same. When I called to thank them for the great service, the lady I was speaking to was surprised and a little shocked that I was a happy customer calling. She said that I was the first person who called only to say thank you.

Not trying to be that guy but I have a few higher end guns, and I can vouch that mechanically the hi point is every bit as reliable as any other gun. I don’t own one but my cousin does, and we shoot the hell out of it every time we hit the range, and I know for a fact that it’s never been cleaned. The ONLY thing I find unappealing is the weight distribution I guess? I just know it feels like it has more recoil and it takes me a little longer to get back to the paper. But who knows? That little issue could be remedied with more practice and muscle memory development… and yes I’ve also heard good things about their customer service!

@angeldesigns1385 It's heavy and very ugly, but that's ok as long as it works. I use it as a toolbox gun. It's nice having a gun that I don't worry about scratching or caring about the resale value.

I feel mildly famous over the Yeet Canon naming kerfuffle. I actually won the naming contest (and got a 10mm carbine as a prize). I could have waited for the Yeet Canon as a prize. For a lot of reasons glad I did not. If you remember Yeet Canon was not one of the official names to be voted on. My submission won (CTAC-9) but the internet clamored for Yeet Canon. So they declared my submission as the winner awarded me a prize and then named it Yeet Canon. The fact I feel mildly famous over this really says a lot about my life. 😂

I'd love for PSA to manufacture an M3A1 "grease gun" (with a 16" barrel for "legality"), a Sterling pistol, or an UZI pistol. If they could make them for under $500, they would sell like Monsters in a middle school. Update: I don’t think that the M3A1 could be sold as a “pistol” even if you welded or removed the stock because the magazine/well would be considered (by the BATFE) as a “vertical fore grip”. Update 2: Also . . . A FP-45 Liberator.

Agreed, as a C9 owner the Yeet Cannon was a huge disappointment. Been following its development thru this channel (edit: shit i thought this was TFBTV but in any case James was always the one reporting from Hi Point HQ) and expected them to nail it after what feels like 5 years. Immediate disappointment the first time I handled it and saw how many issues even review copies were having. Poor reliability, which was presumably sacrificed just for 2 additional rounds in the new mags. Speaking of which, they hang up and are way more difficult to insert than they need to be. Also, who thought the new grip safety was necessary...? As trash as some people see C9s, I don't believe they ever had a bad rap when it comes to safety/unintentional discharges. The whole thing rubbed me the wrong way. Its water under the bridge at this point but I remember when they tried to weasel themselves out the whole Boaty McBoatface situation - like damn, you make OEM $100 bill grips for your ghetto blaster 9mm, this is nothing. Props to them for actually going with it in the end... but, too bad the product actually kinda sucks after such a long wait. Walther really should have discontinued the P22. That gun has done nothing but tarnish their reputation for years now. I know so many old Fudds that think Walther is trash, with the only reason being that they bought a 250 dollar 22lr and found that it was hopelessly unreliable. Once Umarex bought Walther out, they turned that Arnsberg factory to producing airsoft quality bullshit. If you see a walther for sale and it doesn't have the Stag horn proof marking on the slide, then it made at the Arnsberg factory and it will not feature the legendary Walther quality. The Ulm factory (good guns) use a stag Antler mark. The Arnsberg factory (bad guns) use the three crowns inside a shield proof mark. The P22 is probably the shittiest Arnsberg firearm ever produced.

The reason the HMG and now PSA Stg 44 is so delayed is likely because they know there isn't a market for these beyond the initial gotta buy it folks. No collector is going to purchase an inauthentic gun using different mags, receiver, caliber. And potential buyers who might be interested in a "modernized" version are going to pass when they see the $2,000 plus price tag for a gun that doesn't do anything better than PSA's $400 ARs.

With the FPC carbine people say why? With the Smith FPC we tested why yesterday. My wife is a very good pistol shot, I mean, stupid good. She's lousy with a rifle. With her daily carry, a Hellcat with Apex trigger she can put five out of five in a three inch circle rapid off hand with the Hellcat, at 7 yards. At 20 yards she hits in the nines and eights, rapid fire. With the FPC and a 510C she can put five in one ragged hole at 7 yards and all in the three inch circle at 20 yards, rapid fire. Oh, and the FPC chronographs over 200 fps faster with the exact same ammo. That pushes 124 grain plus P 900 into .357 magnum range. Not to mention it's just plain fun versus her always asking 'did this pistol always kick that hard?' after each session at the range. The FPC soaks up the Plus P recoil nicely.

Certainly. Fixed income and shit economy is a factor for some though. Aside from that, a sizable percentage of the gun buying public treats a gun like we treat a fire extinguisher. I actually got that S&TInc bullpup kit for the 12.25" barreled Draco. It took a lot of additional work and parts to get to a point where I'd say its reliable enough. That includes changing the base trigger on the Draco, specifically with that additional spring for assisting resets. There is so much going on at the bullpup trigger section, which I think uses AR-15 parts... but really should have used something like a pistol or 1911 trigger, one that has straight pull-back against a lever, instead of trying to arrest a pivoting motion, that is causing all kinds of friction against the trigger bar, which is way too flexible (it bends so fucking much), and that array has so much stuff, the Draco was struggling to reset reliably until I also installed an adjustable gas system and a lighter recoil spring. Imagine at one point I had to manually push the trigger from behind just to get it to reset. I love it. Its an abomination. Its just very much a DIY project beyond assembling the kit. Imagine at one point I had to manually push the trigger from behind just to get it to reset. Company says its not a rifle as configured... but might need to shave the kit's rear housing some to prove its not creating an additional surface (because it angles flush to the rear trunnion) to demonstrate the kit did not create/add a rear surface for shouldering. For range trips, its a fun toy. Blasted a couple of hogs with it too. However, for the guys that just love to dump hundreds of rounds at a time... heat will kill this thing. They need to address the accessory gas tube shroud because it just will not hold zero; easy enough for me to replace the now-defunct rear irons instead with a rail. Still, I haven't met an AK-bullpup kit this minimalist, slim, and lithe, either. If this thing was metal 3d-printed, it would address a lot of issues. Namely, that pistol grip up front, can't base that on an AR and print it from plastic, and then have to mill in a brass tap in order to receive the retaining bolt. Mine failed EARLY, and I resorted to using JB Weld to hold it together, in addition to cutting a third of the grip off and contouring with a file till reloads using 30rd magazines didn't require torquing the magazine out. I will say the kit would have done just fine had they shipped and encouraged 20rd mags. These days its my truck gun (stored in a backpack, ready to rock) that travels with me. In a nutshell: You'll be doing a lot of DIY gunsmithing to get a functional build, and I can only wish S&TInc the best to factor in these customer woes and create an even better, preferably aluminum and steel Gen2.

Give us a Smith & Wesson rhino clone or maybe an original design that incorporates similar concepts. You can never go wrong with a 357 Magnum cartridge especially when you're taking stainless steel or a deep blueing and meeting it to some very fine woods. Not saying they’re “just as good” as a budget AR or even AK but a modern production gun that isn’t worn slap out will probably be good enough to make a fun toy. No one is buying an STG clone to have a fighting rifle, at least I hope not.

The problem for the public is that a major gun manufacturer like Smith & Wesson's primary concern and motivation has shifted to churning out rising dividends for the shareholders, this often detracts from what their main motivation SHOULD BE, namely delivering a fine firearm onto the market. Cutting costs results in rising (short-term) dividends, but it hollows out the product you put out.
