Live, No autotune. Marilyn was among the best in her day.

My friend, I was 14 when this came out. My friends were already listening to the Stones and Led Zep. I was square listening to the 5th Dimension. I also had a massive crush on Marilyn. Little mayonnaise while boy in the middle of 99% white NH just thought she was the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen. Plus, the vocals are crazy good.

Music from the 60's/70's/80's is absolutely unmatched in terms of talent, insane songwriting, and creativeness. Today's music can't even remotely come close. What a time period. Prayers for you of the loss of your dad.

The power of music to make us 'feel' is amazing. Marilyn's soaring harmonies and touching performance are genuinely moving. Her and Billy Davis Jr. are still performing today. I remember listening to them on 8-track tapes in my dad's car as a child...and I got to see them perform in the area (boston area)--at the wilbur theater a free show at 'the big E' and they still sound AMAZING. I'm sorry to hear of your dad's passing, I can't imagine the emotions and feelings you are going through. Please take care of yourself, good sir. Reach out to those around you if needed.

And thank you so much, this is definitely 1 of the hardest losses of my life so far, and mutually music, doing these reactions & other projects are really helping me find joy & things to look forward to & expression in so Im grateful for it all & interacting with folks like yourself Ron :)

It just makes your skin tingle, don't it ? One of many reasons she is my favorite vocalist of ALL TIME .. she makes me feel what she sings .. all the time .. If I could reach you will do the same thing to you .. Sorry to hear of your loss .. It doesn't get easier but songs like this that bring up those emotions & those tears I find help me to deal with things better .. It is very cathartic for me at least ,, LOVE & LIGHT

IT REALLY DOES!!! Sorry for the late reply, your comment I meant to respond to right away. I definitely can underatand you giving her that title from just this, so much emotion in it, and that's what I require in my favorite singers as well I gotta feel the emotion of the song no matter the singer or songs subject. And thank you so much I really appreciate the words & the love & light, it means alot. Any more 5th Dimension, Billy & Marilyn or solo Marilyn you'd like to recommend?

@@J.Fro90 Hey J .. I too must apologize for my late response .. MARILYN, I don't believe gets the type of recognition that she deserves .. With the 5th, her & BILLY have 6 grammys (4 for Up Up & Away in 1968 & 2 for Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In in 1970) .. Both songs won grammy's for Record of the year & it was the First Time any group or artist won record of the year twice . it has happened I think 7 more times .. They won a 7th Grammy for Best recording by a Group or Duo in 1977 for "You Don't Have To Be A Star" .. That Grammy was from their first duo album after leaving the 5th & It got them their own Variety TV Show that following summer .. They are still the ONLY BLACK MARRIED COUPLE to have their own show on TV .. MARILYN won her 8th Grammy in 1992 for being part of the choir singing Hallelujah Chorus .. By the way, If U have never heard "Handel's Messiah: A Soulful Celebration" produced to perfection by Quincy Jones in 1992, Listen to it NOW .. .. They won the TOKYO MUSIC FESTIVAL in 1977 singing "The Two Of Us" .. ===> kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHyZoZ-iotZoq6M She is currently 78 & Billy is 83 .. They just released BLACKBIRD - Lennon & McCartney ICON - .. They reinterpret everything & make it fresh & new .. She sounds amazing on Blackbird, Long & Winding Road & they sing a duet, the last song on the album .. I LOVE HER .. I think nothing they have EVER SUNG together truly shows their LOVE for each than this duet ===>.kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3eZppSifJeNgdk. There R so many videos of her on youtube where U can appreciate her LIVE VOICE & the range & control she has .. I will send U some of the video URL's on here of her in another message .. cheers

I am so sorry to her about your Dad, J.Fro90. I can see how this song could easily touch your heart. Yes, it is a beautiful song actually written by Burt Bacharach with lyrics by Hal David. They composed many songs for Dionne Warwick in the '60's and 70's including "I Say A Little Prayer" and "Walk On By." Much love coming your way!!!

This is great! These songs, this era, when song composition, arrangements, harmony were the "norm" to great music. I'm glad to see this generation discovering music with feeling, whether jazz, rock, contemporary, funk or country. Too bad there wasn't digital recording/mastering and the recording time restraints of anolog records (about 22 min/side) but now digital remastering is making these recordings more dynamic than ever. Over the last 20 years music, although some good stuff, some, made it fun, the majority of the music sucks. It's repetitive, little to no composition and lacks real talent, especially singing. However, they've got "the look" and flashy packaging. I've never heard so many of today's music icons with no talent, mundane production and music with the "shelf life" of milk. 😄 Gives a new meaning to "about to drop!" Again, its great to see many rediscover these classics, or maybe more appropriate timeless music. Keep it up and "Don't Fake The Funk!" 😉

Also, the style of music is called a torch song. It is a metaphor for a love that you can't get over. ( carrying a flaming torch means you can't easily get rid of it.)

J .. One more thing .. Back in 'May of '87 my younger brother JAMES was in the NAVY on the US STARK .. The ship was bombed "accidentally" by IRAQ & my brother was one of 39 sailors that were killed .. 3 weeks later I received a letter he had written be4 the tragedy so even thou I knew he was dead, I had this letter .. That August I went to UNIV of WYOMING for Grad School .. The 1st FB player (I was a University ATHLETIC TRAINER for 30 years) .. FB was one of the teams I worked with when I was there .. DAVE SCHUTT, The very 1st FB player that invited me into his circle of friends, he filled empty spot in my heart where my brother had been .. The next summer in JUNE we were at the bars etc & most of us went home .. the next morning around 7am, someone was banging on our door, in the early morning DAVE was foolin around on the train tracks & somehow was hit & killed instantly .. or me, it was like my brother had died all over again .. I was such a mess .. That is when I made a cassette tape of songs i had that reminded me of my brother or DAVE or just spoke of loss .. When things got unbearable griefwise for me, I would listen to the tape & just cry my eyes ut for however long it took to allow me to feel less overwhelmed .. I have since changed some of those songs but the ones I have allow me to get in touch with those emotions that are so painful .. I always send a CD copy of most of those songs to any friend who loses someone important in their life to help their grieving process .. I have told this long story specifically because i would like to send U some of the songs in that playlist & if only 1 or 2 of them hit home & help U, then thats or 2 more than U had be4 .. How can I send these to U for your benefit .. U never know why we meet people or come into each others life .. I know that in the end, my life's struggles & pain allowed me to become an empath .. Let me know how to do this .. LOVE & LIGHT
