Since being crowned Miss Universe Australia, author and media personality, Maria Thattil has navigated the complicated intersections of her race, sexuality and culture in the public eye. An advocate for diversity and representation, Maria shares the importance of standing up and being yourself. Maria Thattil is a Penguin published author, TV presenter, actor, speaker, activist, and creator. Propelled into the spotlight when she was crowned Miss Universe Australia in 2020, she placed in the top ten of the international competition in 2021 and was only the third woman of colour to represent Australia in the pageant’s 69-year history. A passionate advocate for diversity, she dedicates her multi-hyphen career to campaigning for gender equality, youth empowerment, mental health and inclusion. A sought-after columnist, Thattil writes for outlets including 9Honey, Stellar Magazine, Buzzfeed, Body+Soul, Mamamia and Women’s Agenda. She has headlined global campaigns championing LGBTQIA+ rights, inclusion and equality for brands including Olay, Alfa Romeo, Clinique, Piper Heidsieck, and L’Oréal Paris. A guest Host on Channel 10’s The Project, Thattil is also a panellist on Channel 9’s Today Extra and Talking Honey, and her 2022 appearance on I’m a Celebrity . . . Get Me Out of Here! made waves internationally when she came out as bisexual on-air. Her book, Unbounded, navigates the complexities of race, sexuality, gender and identity and offers readers an active guide towards self-mastery. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Such a good conlusion: big change it happens becasuse of cumulative moments every single day that masquerades as everyday decisions despite all the oods you get up and hit a dirt road just to get the job done. You dont change life by waiting proper moment but when you realize that opputinuties for greatness that dont always come across as great. Stop wearing what other people say and instead tell yourself EVERY DAMN DAY: I CAN - I AM - I WILL.!

The opportunities for greatness don't always come great. You might have to step on thorns, swim against a strong current, expose yourself for hate and brutal verbal attacks while creating these opportunities.

it also depends on the country ,civil society and the rule of law . and depending on the problem - on gender... in some places it’s easier for men, and in other places it’s harder. there are things that not only the majority of society does not accept, but also the governments of countries, especially in the CIS sector, where authoritarian regimes have remained in one form or another also don't forget about the "survivor's mistake ".

Respectfully, if she spends the entire conversation talking about not caring from others opinions, why she overcome that when she wins Mss universe? (This is an opinion too, the only thing is that she likes this opinion). The point would be to be happy regardless she wins or not
@BalqisAurel-to4ni
@BalqisAurel-to4ni 3 ай бұрын
so, this is my opinion. I think being in her win is her plus point and not the exact point she tries to inform. What was she tryna to say is, that when you do start not intention about anyone's hate or depressing opinion, you will win. That's the point. Everything, everyone, culture, and environment always tryna put you down to hide the dream, but when you believe, realize it or not, you're gonna win anyway, not only by Miss Universe but in your own daily life. Respectfully, this is what i got by watching this.

Sometimes I am so astonished at how people differentiate based on skin. I am over 60 and it just never was a thing where I grew up. My Caucasian family was somewhat intermingled with Indigenous people, and the Hindus and Sikhs in the area were sawmill owners and farmers same as us -I remember going to an Indian feast or festival when I was maybe 5 as my father was a mill owner as well. I remember when dad was in hospital the (east) Indian nurses all knew him. What has happened to the world?? There is more division now than when I was little.
