Unfortunately for the Outsiders this song overshadowed everything they did. they had one other chart single Girl In Love but that was it-they couldn't repeat the magic of Time won't Let Me.

"The Rain, The Park and Other Things" is still one of my favorite memories from the 60s. I believe the strange title of the song still throws some people off. I heard an interview with Bob Cowsill who mentioned they wanted to call the song "The Flower Girl", but the record company thought listeners would then confuse the song with Scott Mckenzie's "San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair)" . The odd song title didn't prevent "The Rain, The Park.." from becoming a huge '67 hit, however. NOTE TO JAY & AMBER: There is a sub-par re-recorded version of "The Rain, The Park..." and various live versions available on You Tube. Please find a way to avoid these.

I saw the Outsiders in 1966 when they were on tour with Paul Revere and the Raiders, and Lou Christie. The concert was mind blowing, and the Outsiders sounded live and as good as this recording. Sonny's voice was so powerful, clear, and pitch-perfect. An incredible showman. Heartbroken that he passed away in 2017 but I have his albums to cherish. Rest in peace.

I agree. Cleveland has some fantastic museums and also has an incredible zoo that is the only place that had koala bears (in the rainforest) and our gorillas just adopted a baby i think from Texas because mommy became ill. It's a huge story on their process. And of course our beloved sports teams!

OH YEAH !! The subscriber who sent in the request should have prefaced it with "first - PUMP UP the VOLUME !!" This was the best song of my teen years - growing up a bit east of Cleveland. That guitar solo in the middle of the song is the first heavy metal I can recall hearing. Also, if we can I believe my buddies, you have seen that drummer before. They said it was Jim Fox = James Fox = the drummer for another Cleveland rock group -The James Gang. Jay and Amber, many thanks for that song choice.

A classic Garage Rock genre hit from 1966 and The Outsiders' biggest chart success. There's a lot of interesting tidbits about this song -- and the group -- that many may not know, a few examples: that kickass mid-60s organ wasn't even played by a regular band member, but rather a girl from the greater Cleveland area, Gayle Guhde, who was just 16 at the time; the horns were added later, and the trumpet player, John Madrid, was still in high school when it was recorded; lead singer Sonny Geraci would go on to front the band Climax in the '70s, and it's his vocals you hear on their beautiful 1972 smash hit Precious And Few. 😎

Forty years ago, I met Sonny on a road trip. We were at the Bonneville Salt Flats, and he was on a BMW motorcycle. He was a great guy.It was amazing that two guys from Northeast Ohio crossed paths like that. I took a picture of him with his bike with his camera and he did the same for me with my camera in front of my car.

Guys there is a band you have missed from ‘60s San Francisco named Quicksilver Messenger Service. Probably their most popular song is “Fresh Air”, but they have a really good catalog also. I’m actually pretty surprised they aren’t suggested more. They started in 1965 and lasted into the mid-70s I think. Maybe some of you older folks could verify their quality.

This brings back great ninth grade memories. This song has all the classic 60s sounds thrown in, driving drums, organ in the background, tambourines, some brass and that classic rock & roll guitar sound. One of my all time favorites, thanks for doing this one. Another great tune that will get you moving and your foot tapping to the CLASSIC 60s sound is Tighter, Tighter by Alive ‘n Kickin’ (even though it was from 1970, believe me it’s classic 60s sound, written by the great Tommy James of The Shondells fame). Guarantee you’ll love it.

It was #5 in 1966 and just a total foot tapping rocker. The lead singer Sonny Geraci would also sing another smash called Precious And Few by a group called Climax (#2 in 1972).

YEAH!!! Finally our NATIVE Sons, yes I am a born and raised CLEVELANDER, and I STILL live here! You should also do another Cleveland group, The CHOIR "IT'S COLD OUTSIDE" and ERIC CARMEN (RIP who passed away recently) who was in the RASPBERRIES. Eric went to the rival high school of my high school, though he was a couple of years behind me in High School. He lived not far from the suburb I live in, it's only a few minutes down the road from where I am. Was REALLY upset when I found out he had died. THANK YOU for reacting to our popular Cleveland band......"The LAND" is what we now call it, and the home of the ROCK AND ROLL HALL of FAME. RIP Sonny Geraci (the lead singer of the OUTSIDERS} So glad I was able to see Sonny perform in more recent years, here.

From 1965, give a listen to the Beau Brummels, Just a Little. Not exactly the same, but the two always have stuck in my head together since they came out. I was 15 and 16 when these two came out, and at that age, I was playing records on the stereo at home and listening to AM radio in the car. What a time it was! Thanks, and God bless you!
