I have aftermarket seats, floor mats, a aftermarket steering wheel, radio, and a short throw shifter. All I can say is of all the performance mods I’ve don’t to my 3V mustang like cams and Corsa exhaust, I think the interior mods brought just as must joy if not more joy. I feel like interior mods are overlooked so much in the car community as a whole. Yeah the performance mods are fun and all but you don’t exactly look at, touch, and fool with every time you drive especially if you’re going out for a relaxing Sunday cruise. The better your interior looks and feels, the more you’ll enjoy your car in my opinion
@LibertyDrives2 жыл бұрын

Is it just me or does it seem like a short throw shifter kit is more of a performance mod than interior
@LibertyDrives3 жыл бұрын
You're right it is but my focus for these mods was that they make the feel of the car better from the inside. A short throw definitely helps with performance but it also makes the shifts way more satisfying so I threw it in😂

Car: 2001 Mazda Miata. Perfectly stock daily driver in very good condition. Steering Wheel: Bought a used mahogany wheel/shift knob/handbrake lever from the previous year "10th Anniversary" model. Perfect fit because it is OEM. Unfortunately, they all arrived nicked to heck, but I'm good with woodworking and refinished them. I like a wooden steering wheel and shift knob. Perfect. Floor Mats: Took the stock mats that were 20 years old, vacuumed them, hit with hose and scrubbed them with Dawn, then rinsed them with the hose. Shop vac'ed them and let them dry. Look like new and did it for free. Carbon fiber trim: No. Everyone has that now and most of it is fake as all get out. I just clean the plastic with a brush and a mild cleaner, like Windex. Takes a reasonable time and it looks new again. Free and easy. Touch screen: Hell no. There is a special place in hell for the person who thought it would be a great idea to make something you can't operate without taking your eyes off the road every single time and for every conceivable operation. I'll stick to knobs I can operate without looking away from where I'm going at speed. Short Throw shifter: I drive a Miata. The shifter is nice and mechanical and already has pretty short throws. Might be good for racing though. I'd rather get something that makes it shift into reverse every time, but that's just me and mine is a street car driver. LED lighting/strip lighting: Hell no. Because I underwent surgery to save my eyesight, I have some issues driving at night. I don't do it often, but when I do I like the interior dark, even turning the instruments half down so they don't distract me. If you're fine with it, go for it, but that would be a very bad idea for me. Seats: Not for me. I reskinned the leather on my seats as the old stuff got dry and cracked (bad care on my part). Miata seats are already a tight fit but at least these look new (with a black center on seat and back to compliment the two tone dash it came with). My problem is that I need to replace the seat cushion as the foam has degraded to the point that the rake adjuster digs into my hip. I put a cushion on it, which works but looks kinda old man crappy. Not cool.

The car seat is the worst way to go if it's not from the factory. You did mention the holes don't line up even when they say they're Universal. Another thing, those who buy these don't think of the Safety Air Bag weight, and seating position (distance from steering wheel) monitors for the driver and weight of passengers. The air bag light would be on and the system failure for the air bags.

I'm not sure what price point you're trying to stay under for each mod but my first thought is lowering springs and wheels to get rid of the stock ride look. That can get pretty expensive though, especially for the wheels. I also don't know what color it is but a good rule of thumb is to coordinate 3 colors that go together well (my favorite's white, red and black). But with that you could get tinted or led headlights and foglights, change the badge colors, maybe black out the handles, and I'd say to get a cheap, small rear ducktail lip. Tire writing's super easy with a Sharpie Oil Based Paint pen but I'd only do that with a new ride height and wheels. For cheap interior stuff I'd stick with the same color trio and do a real good job wrapping small interior parts to make them pop a little.

@@LibertyDrives my car is a grey one, I got sum wheels for 300 and they did a difference now I just ordered sum spacers and rainguars I got a little spoiler and tinting I’ll do it again because the last owner didn’t took care of it and in the interior I got blue mats that matches with the seats and some little parts that I could took off I spray painted blue and the handles are already blac but in a sunny day I’ll repaint them with the black factory stripes, and I also order sum headers and an cold air intake, I need some headlights like you said, I need new tail lights front and rear bumpers and I don’t think I’ll do lowering springs I’ll probably do coil-overs so I can adjust them all, and probably in the summer I’m wrapping it

@LibertyDrives4 ай бұрын
Hey, do you mean a carbon fiber-looking vinyl? With stuff like that it depends on the car, the quality wrap you get, and you're expectations, ability to learn how to do it, and equipment/workspace. At some places, wrapping is an art and people can get really good at it. If you want a project for yourself that could be fun to do and really transform your car, then that'd be awesome. Just look up the correct ways to maintain it because it's not the same as if you were to wash your cars paint. You hafta be more careful with wrapped cars, especially on hot days. I think they also usually last for 3-5 years depending on the wrap quality and how well it was applied. Hope this helped, best of luck!!
