It’s awesome because it’s really hard for me to visualize the size and width etc. I’m not sure if it’s because of my mental disablilites but I want more of it.

I have always wondered how these giant ships would be affected by gravity. Would they even be able to go near stars or are they so large that they would be bent out of shape?
@vic501521 күн бұрын
Executor might. The others are probably too small unless they gdt really close.
@Zartren19 күн бұрын
A sort of Roche limit for starships? One thing that plays in their favour is that ships are not holding together with gravity like moons and planets do. I imagine that some sci-fi tech allows for the construction of such large vessels in the first place. If they're not bending when turning, they are probably fine when stationary over planets. When horizontal, the difference in pull from gravity at either end of a ship is likely negligible, even near ground level. Even if a ship's orientation is not favourable, the tensile strength of the metals used to build a ship's skeleton is probably more than enough to compensate for the minute difference of the pull of gravity at either end. Unless a large section of a ship is no longer supported by repulsor lifts, their hull is unlikely to buckle. The issue with our own sea ships is that our ships are supported by water rather than properly distributed repulsor lifts. If a large section of a ship, right near the center, is unsupported by water, the ship's thin hull will not have the strength to keep straight. Also, waves crashing into a ship might compress the hull, damaging it. Steel is not nearly as good as cement and stone against compression. Ships in space don't have that issue either.

This system makes sense on paper, but no one uses it. Dreadnought and frigate are used interchangeably, with some Corvette thrown in for good measure. And the malevolence, a subjugator class heavy cruiser, or dreadnought depending on where you look, should, at the very least, be classified as a star destroyer. And the acclamator is lumped in with cruisers and star destroyers. The venator is technically classified as a star destroyer, but is called a cruiser.
@StuartistStudio196422 күн бұрын
Okay, I get a bit confused whenever I watch Star Wars KZbinrs who refer to the Super Star Destroyers as Dreadnoughts, especially those who include Legends. There is a Heavy Cruiser in Legends known as the Dreadnought Class, which gets its name from more than one real world battleship named HMS Dreadnought. The SSDs were called Command Ships, which seems a more fitting designation than Dreadnought.
@colindaniels94512 күн бұрын
If you play Galactic Conquest in the original Battlefront 2 as the Republic,the Acclimator class ships are your frigates. If you play as the Empire,the Victory class Star Destroyer is your frigate. If you play as the Rebels,the Correlian Corrvettes are your frigates. If you play as the CIS,the IG Banking Clan ships are your frigates

How are the rebel alliance and empire rich enough to build so many of these ships? I think one costs at least 50-80 billion on earth.

I don't believe corvettes would count as capital ships, more of a support/auxiliary ship. Same as Frigates.
@Tracks20089 күн бұрын
No they are indeed capital ships. Always have been and always should be.
@robertsabatka79069 күн бұрын
@Tracks2008 I guess in Star Wars, yes, but I was simply stating I don't believe they should be, as in real life they are not.

Technically Dreadnoughts can be divided into two classes in itself, Dreadnought and Super Dreadnoughts since some exist that were so much larger than SSDs. A perfect example would be either of the Eclipse class. I suppose you could also throw in the Xyston or Soverign Class if you look at power and not just size.

Do Corvettes really qualify as "capital ships"? Not sure a frigate does either.
@Tracks20089 күн бұрын
Yes they do. They always have been capital ships and always should be.

Um the Death Star was a starship. It had a hyperdrive and it's own engines, otherwise how could it have followed the Falcon to Yavin 4?
@Tracks20089 күн бұрын
It was officially a mobile battle station. So yes a starship but one that is so big you really don't count it as one.

Honestly all of the In Universe categorizations are horrible. I did an analysis years ago for a competitive writing site ,picture a game but all written, so ships could be balanced. I came up with 15 categories. Light fighters (limited equipment), Heavy fighters (up to 26m), Support 26-100m, Corvette 101-250m, frigate 251-400m, cruiser 401-650m, Star Frigate 651-900m, Light Star Destroyer 901-1300m, Star Destroyer 1301m-1800m, Heavy Star Destroyer 1801-4000m, Light Star Cruiser 4001-6000m, Star Cruiser 6001-8000m, Heavy Star Cruiser 8001-12000m, Star Dreadnaught 12001-16000m, Star Battleship 16001-20,000m The reason is that if you list out all the ships by length you see clusters of ships around the center of those lengths with fewer ships along the edges. Ships bigger than 'cruisers' get set into the 'Star' classification, indicating they fulfil the same role just on a space or void combat scale. Becuase calling everything bigger than 1600m an SSD lumps 80% of length into a single category which is just silly. The biggest ship in a formation will fulfill the role of "battleship" the smallest will fill the role of "frigate" or "Destroyer". I will go into more detail if people want a discussion and I want to make it clear that I am not knocking the presentation or the video. It's a disagreement with 'canon' and it's poorly thought out systems.

The SSDs only got to 8km in length. The Death Stars were the only things larger than a Super Star Destroyer.

@Tracks2008 ARC Hammer 9.6km, Assertor 15km, Bellator 7.2km, Eclipse and Eclipse II 17.5km, Executors 19km (not less than 8 of thrm), Mandator 8km, Mandator II 12km, the 4 Soverign at 15km, Super star Destroyer prototype at 12km, Vengeance at 19km, Megador, and Viscount at 17km. Would you like to know more?

So what real battlecruisers were there? Disney bullshit does not count. Also the SSDs are only 8km long or maybe 13.5km by the models. They are NOT 19km.
