If you click on the "...more" in the description you'll find links to the other videos and bgg threads that I mention in my video. ps. one thing that I really should have said in my final thoughts, is that I was a huge fan of the 7th Continent, and except for the theme, I think all of the changes in the 7th Continent make this a better game, and the legacy campaign additions are wonderful. -jesse

Great video, this is exactly what I want from a Before you buy or back video.

You are too kind. In the coming days there will be people making videos who are more focused on kickstarter and value for money, so be sure to check those for more specific thoughts on those elements. I tend to be fairly negative towards kickstarters in general, and no one should have any fear of missing out on this if you don't back the kickstarter. The publisher will be selling this game for many years to come and you will be able to buy it any time.

thanks for the link, glad you liked it. I might look into your house rules. I have been thinking about giving the other threat a try. My initial psychological wounds are beginning to fade a bit :)

I completely get why it would feel utterly demoralizing to be playing these long games and have these fun moments ruined by things outside of your control and unfair. While I would normally not play on anything but standard mode in a board game, here its about exploration, so I think playing on the easier "story" mode is a viable option, and we invented this new building that gives a MUCH better option for the stupid bad luck cards and makes it much more palatable. Definitely worth checking out after you recover from the mental wounds. I think the other thing is that misery enjoys company -- it's easier to "enjoy" when bad things happen to you in this game if you have someone to laugh about it with. :) -jesse ps. Keep up the great work on your videos -- the editing and production quality puts the rest of us to shame.

@@COOPFORTWO thanks for the kind words. Yeah I wouldn’t mind the bad beats if the story had more branching possibilities. I think you mentioned that there was little replay-ability and that is hard to swallow to replay hours or game play where you know exactly where it’s headed. You also mentioned that for some the combat might feel repetitive. That is definitely the case for me. I spent the entire time praying for no combat because it just wasn’t fun and I was just trying to make it back with some life. Had the combat felt fun and rewarded skill more than luck I think I would have enjoyed it more. I have found myself comparing this to sleeping gods distant skies a lot just because it’s the only open world type game I have played recently. With that I relished combat. It was a fun puzzle to solve that asked for skill and in the end was rewarding. The flip side is I preferred the off beat world presented in 7th citadel.

@@Neon_Gorilla The combat in this game is THE weak link. It's clear they put lots of effort into making it more interesting and a challenging optimization puzzle, but in the end the bottom line is that it feels like a different little busywork mini-game, and it takes real time to perform, which is annoying. I do think it's the nut they still have to crack. I have some game design thoughts about it that I'll try to talk about in my upcoming longer 7th Citadel discussion.. Unfortunately combat isn't something that's particularly easy to fix with a house rule.

@@Neon_Gorilla I really have to get back to Sleeping Gods, but my memory is I had a similar issue with the combat there. It's clever, it's a puzzle, but in the end it just feels like it's taking up too much of my time playing a mini-game with no mental rewards.

Just saw the new campaign, I’m curious if you will you back it? The idea of having another massive box full of cards is scaring me 😅 but I’m enjoying it so much that I’m seriously considering backing it.
@COOPFORTWO6 ай бұрын
I am backing it. I'm a bit of a curmudgeon when it comes to kickstarter, so I'm not doing it enthusiastically. I would have liked to see them offer at least 2 full threat campaigns to make all the shipping costs worth it. No one should have any fear of missing out on this -- everything important in this kickstarter will be offered for sale for years on their website after the kickstarter. So really there is no rush. There are no kickstarter exclusives that you won't be able to pick up after the campaign, and in the next kickstarter, etc. So my advice is that if you're on the fence, don't sweat it, you will have future opportunities to get all this. -jesse

@@COOPFORTWO thanks Jesse you are right and the price is similar as well, I think kickstarter has lost the exclusivity effect and the advantage of having for a discount or something that you cannot find in the retail. The shipping is so expensive. Thanks for the reply I still have few days to decide and I still have tons of content to play with so no really necessary this time. Do you think they will do another campaign in the future?
@COOPFORTWO6 ай бұрын
@@Creativepenciling It's inconceivable that they won't do another kickstarter centered around the 7th citadel.
