A few that got missed; 1) Getting yanked out and put on TAD (never happened to me) 2) Sleeping in your rack and then having to muster after only an hour because they call man overboard 3) Having a berthing by the damn pistons to keep you awake 4) Having your rack next to the person(s) who snores, farts, jerks off and is louder about it then the planes landing on your head,, or all of the above. The laundry wasn't such a big deal because I just said screw it and paid someone to do it for me. Money well spent. I'd still do it again. Does that make me weird?

To add a few: Cinderella liberty...a grown ass man with a curfew. Some form of chicken everyday, and weird fake burgers. Drills and stupid 1MC announcements when you are trying to sleep. Cleaning up the head in the morning on your duty day in a liberty port. Showers that are either freezing cold or hot that come out a 1000 psi, or no showers at all. people that dip and leave their spit cans all over the place. Oh someone lost a tool....everything stops...... I could keep going

When I was aboard USS Fahrion (FFG-22) they always screwed us with time zone changes. If the clock was moving forward, they did it in the middle of the night so we lost an hour of sleep. If it was moving back, they did it in the middle of the day so we got an extra hour of work.

Whoo! Extra hour for Night Check (Shift)! I was assigned to that shift during my 2nd deployment aboard the USS George Washington (Good Ol' G-Dub, Watup?!). Gotta love it...KINDA NOT! Oh, yeah, the galley lines. Dear God! One time, I witnessed 1 long snake line from Bay 3 of the Hangar Bay down to the place. Berthing? Shee-Yez! We were right underneath the "4 Traps" section!!! We could hear the thunderous thuds of jets landing during the day when we Night-Checkers tried to go to sleep.

JT It’s funny how you become accustomed to the ship noises when sleeping. I actually woke up one night because it was too quiet. For some reason the ship had gone dead in the water. It was eerily quiet.

Meagan McAdorey I'm going for the same thing, I already went to MEPS and had a good experience overall. I've been doing extensive research online for the rate and also I've looked at his videos same as NickyMGTV who has also done collab videos with JT ,he happens to be a corpsman and will probably help you watch his videos. I think it's a really good choice overall if you want get out and have a career in the medical field after your contract which is what I'm going to do. Good luck & if you have any questions message me I'll tell you what I know and also what to expect for MEPS i just went last week.

I remember doing cleaning stations on HMCS Athabaskan 6 years ago, for several weeks straight for CO's rounds before we sailed, a little bit of back story here though. So we get back the ship out of refit in the dead of a Canadian winter, along the way it ran aground that didn't make things better. the tech's who were behind the refit forgot to isolate the steam pipes and the boilers (BTW this ship was reaching 40 years of service during that time) so when we tried to get the fresh water going as and the hot water, the pipes literally exploded. So to clean we had to pull fresh water from the adjacent ships, that was always pleasant... but it gets better, during this time we were prepping for RRI's (Canadian low readiness, DC milestones, don't ask me what stand's for I honestly don't remember) the engineering department have been working around the clock 24/7 for 3 months getting the black water & fresh water fixed (massive respect for them) during that time command was so desperate that they got the whole ship's company's enlisted (including chiefs) and the able bodied injured folk (I was sporting a barely healed broken elbow, they're not allowed to that unless the CO signs off on it, which he did...) have been showing up at 0630 to clean everyday until 2230, all the way to CO's rounds which was the day before sail day. we pull it off, we passed CO's rounds and the engineers managed to get black water working the day of sail, because the CO was going to suggest zap-strapping blue rockets (portapotties) to the flight deck for the sail, just so we can make our timings. You can't make this shit up ahaha

I was in a long time ago, we didn't have laundry times, the folks who were TAD as Coop cleaners always collected laundry on a certain day from us and took it down to the laundry, one thing that sucked for me was when they issued out your long colored jerseys like red. green, yellow etc... I wore an XL because I was tall and those idiots ran out and I had to wear a freaking medium, it was so embarrassing, I had to pull the thing down to stretch the material, finally one day my Chief come up to me laughing and says I'll get you some coveralls. Do they still say sweepers sweepers man your brooms onboard?

I depends how far aft you are under Fly 3. If you’re near the arresting gear piston rooms (there are 4) forget about it. Every 90 seconds the entire area echoes with the impact of an aircraft slamming into the deck, followed by the high pitch squeal of the arresting gear machinery. The best place to be is near the ramp.

those are the worst berthing compartments. first command was under the THREE wires , hell it used to be worse before the GYM was put in at verry aft of the ship that used to be a ship berthing. Chow Line once got the serving area they ran out turkey, on thanksgiving. only saving grace later I was E6, but a curse.

Paused before it started to not be influenced when giving my top annoying things on ship: lack of space, lack of sleep, flight ops/man overboard/ General Quarters/rhib launch/unrep or anything right before chow especially if I cant get midrats and I'm missing a meal. Surf and turf meals (if you have ever had them you know you are only getting it cause you are getting screwed). Being told to skate (I am a hard worker and want to work not hide). More then anything on this list multiplied by infinity was 9/11. The reason I say that is because we felt so helpless. We did go and do plane guard in New York Harbor for The Kennedy but we wanted to go strike back right away and that call was not our to make. So we had to hurry up and wait while we were all fired up. This feeling struck us often any time any of our brothers and sisters were hurt like when the Cole was hit. It is the most annoying feeling.

You get used to it, believe it or not. It's just not the most restful sleep you'll ever have. That's why it's so important to get a decent hotel room when you hit port. It's quiet, it's private, you have a big bed rather than a rack, and most important a shower that you don't have to share with all the hot water you want and can use for as long as you want.
