I'd love to hear you discuss this process from the hill country setting. I have a buck that I'm pretty sure is 6 yrs old that I finally found a bedding area that he likely uses. I've had 2 years of mostly daylight pictures of him, but never had a camera close to the beds I've discovered. I haven't been able to come up with a good plan yet.

You should check out my kill video from 2022 and the hill country e-scouting breakdowns. They give a lot of similar process based breakdowns like this. Might have to make a hill country video like this

The explanation on what direction he will travel in, with wind direction, and how far he may make it during daylight, and what tree you will climb and why is brilliant! Even though it’s not your class buck, that was a good spot to show your breakdown and it all makes sense. Great video!

If you go to Ohio this year, could you do a scouting video for there if possible? Maybe go over funnels, travel edges, and some good bedding. Similar to the video you just did in the marsh. I know it's all relatable, but for a beginner learning how to hunt the hills would be good.

I’d love to do that! Not sure if I’ll make it down for a scout trip tho. If I kill early I’ll spend an extra day doing that. I don’t have much vacation time lol

@@JacobSklenarTheWildCalling I understand that. I have a wedding and honeymoon this year. I’m going to try to go a couple of weekends instead of one whole week I did this past season. I’m hoping to get lucky on the first weekend I go so I can focus on Tennessee more.

Thank you! I’ll keep that in mind. I think the #1 factor that makes me think a bed belongs to a mature buck is how intelligent the bedding is. If he’s really hard to setup on, I think he’ll reach maturity in that area

Can you do this in a big woods setting?
@JacobSklenarTheWildCalling
@JacobSklenarTheWildCalling 4 ай бұрын
There’s not a lot of big woods by me but I can tell you it applies very similarly. Do you hunt big woods with any topography at all?
@whitewood2000
@whitewood2000 4 ай бұрын
@@JacobSklenarTheWildCalling Very little topography at all. Where I'm at I would categorize it as gently rolling hills with a bench or two here and there. I have found beds overlooking the benches but i've been focusing on clearcuts because of the edge and type of habitat they create.

@@whitewood2000 I gotcha! I’ve hunted big woods a bunch but with a lot of topography. I’ve hunted big woods without topography but not a lot. I would say they utilize transitions in cover quite a bit. Anything that breaks up the monotony is good

Do you think they enter the bedding area on one trail and exit on a different one? I know wind based but being they j hook in to watch that trail they came in on. So if they did use different trails for entering and exiting you’d have a morning set and evening.
@JacobSklenarTheWildCalling
@JacobSklenarTheWildCalling 4 ай бұрын
I think they can enter on either trail and just hook in depending on the wind at the end. Their exit is much more consistent but they’ll loop downwind when entering and those trails aren’t as defined. This buck isn’t very mature so there wasn’t much for j-hooks in the area.
@Hopeknives13
@Hopeknives13 4 ай бұрын
@@JacobSklenarTheWildCalling thank you. I’ve been monitoring a couple buck bedding areas and trying to dial them in. One spot they enter it late in morning once the thermals rise they enter it high to catch both wind and thermals and a cross wind from doe bedding. Basically they catch two doe bedding by splitting them in half. Thermals with one wind with the other in their favor. Neat setup for them but I got busted twice. Any who great stuff you’re putting out.

@@Hopeknives13 that can be really tough! Sometimes you gotta be on the same level as them and shoot them before they get your wind in those scenarios. But getting there undetected is the hard part! Appreciate the kind words man 👊🏼 good luck this year!
