Started my Toyota run with a 1983 red 4 x 4 pickup. Perfect. It was absolutely dependable until it literally rotted away. The original 22R. Since then it's been a 1988 4-Runner, a 1991 4 X 4 Hi-Lux, a little Toyota Corolla that ran until a huge tree landed on right in the middle of it and squashed it during a windstorm (paid $700 for it and probably put 100K on it), and am currently running a 97 4 x 4 with almost 300K on it of which I put on almost 200K. The little 2.7 4-banger but I've pulled a 16ft RV all over the country with it including rocky mountain back roads and it still does not use a quart of oil between changes. Runs flawlessly. I also run a Ford 4 x 4 PU for hauling wood. Guess which one I work on almost continuously.

I mean this truck is fine I guess, but it doesn't stack up to the ultimate overlanding vehicle (my '92 Toyota Camry) which has premium expedition features like: -A powerful 1.8-liter engine that goes 0-60 in a BLAZING fast 22.5 seconds -Genuine _Panafonic™_ tape deck with Jimmy Buffett's _Cheeseburger in Paradise_ stuck on repeat - A half-eaten CLIF bar in the glove compartment for sustenance on the go ...and so much more. If you beg nicely, I MIGHT be willing to sell for $30,000 U.S.

You should consider a 3.4 swap! I had a 87 4Runner 22re, it was a great engine just not enough power. I recently got a second gen 4Runner with a 3.4 and its 👌 and the engines have a history of reliability.
@jvogler_art47082 жыл бұрын
Might as well just buy a 1st gen tacoma with the 3.4. Not a fan of cheesey swap builds. Also its the 3rd gen 4runner that has the 3.4. I have one too and they're great. The 22re is best in a 2wd work truck, yes it's slow but it's a very capable, reliable engine with a timing chain instead of belt.

How do the KM3s compare to the KO2s on your Tundra? Particularly driving on snowy highways???
@DeskToGlory5 жыл бұрын
I'm sold on the KO2s for everything I drive on (including snowy highways). The KM3s are good in the snow, but definitely not as good as the All Terrains. Saying that, the K02s aren't as good on the snow/ice as the Michelin winter tires that were on a truck I recently borrowed, but everything's a compromise. I haven't had a chance to spend a whole bunch of time driving the truck with KM3s on it yet, but I'll keep you updated as I put more mileage on them.
