The ancient Greeks already found out that the moon didn't shine by itself but was lit by the sun, and a few even claimed that it consisted of the earthly elements, instead of star-stuff. Also, when they still called planets "stars", there were fewer than 800 "stars" in the solar system. The statement remains true. ;)

I like how at 3:53 if you take the (Actual Scale) too seriously it implies that researchers regularly send a laser that's the size of the moon in width and many times the diameter of the earth in length at the moon Note that this also would imply that the retroreflectors left on the moon would be covering the whole near side of the moon in order for the whole laser to return (and probably requires a very large support so that the mirror could be flat) That's bigger than a Toyota Corola

@tidebleach8215

I never understood why we have to invest so much money on space programs. The most important reason to go to space was to beat the soviets to it. Given that the cold war has ended the only other reason I can think of now is i guess to look cool? Of course the other reason would be to colonize other planets however there is not really a good reason to do this as all the problems that could be solved by colonizing other planets (such as overpopulation and global warming) have other solutions that would cost much less money and much less time.
@Robin-jy3xz
@Robin-jy3xz 6 жыл бұрын
I can see I managed to trigger a lot of people with that comment. So, let me clarify a bit better. I do not hate americans in general, I do not hate your country (even though I would not go there on vacation, all the police brutality is keeping me away.) What I hate about the US, is, as I said, the world police role you have taken on yourself. You have this pathalogical need to start wars all over the globe, just in order to get your hands on some more oil. Starting wars and defending yourself is two different things. A lot of awesome stuff is comming out of the US, but there is also a ton of shit comming out. Also the comment about all the space debis making it a problem going to the moon is wrong. There is a lot of space debris, true, but most of it is in LEO (Low earth orbit), same place where the ISS is. There is almost no debris around the moon. Yes, you went to the moon, but that is almost 50 years ago. That is half a century. It is impressive that you went there with the technology at hand in the 60s, it is not so impressive that you are unable to do the same thing with technology that is several hundred times better now. You could have gone to Mars in the 70-80s as well, but your president at the time though it was better to spend billions developing a flying brick that was also one of the most unsafe spaceships to ever fly. Impressive, but a massive waste of money.

America went to the Moon, yes. But still use the imperial system? It is inferior compared to the metric system. America has always been filled with this pride and bullshit and often times forgets the reality of things. Yes, the US went to the Moon in 1969, but still today, some parts of the country looks like it's fitting of a third world country. It isn't really a very successful country looking from a wider perspective. Went to the Moon in what, a decade or so, from scratch and researching and building rockets. But it's been 40+ years since then! If it only took about 10 years to ready-up for a moon launch, humans should've set foot on Mars by like the late 80s early 90s! Maybe not stay there, but atleast went there, and get back. Space exploration hasn't really progressed much since the space-race era ended. It's all thanks to Elon Musk and SpaceX that it is even progressing, AT ALL.

Yes the Imperial is inferior to the Metric. We get it great point, just dont be bitching about a fucking measurement system when the USA when it does all the heavy lifting. The day America stops advancing the world, and givng away the most aid is the day you all suffer

Niom so u can life on Mars?
@Niom_Music
@Niom_Music 6 жыл бұрын
andrezi _ No, unfortunately we cannot live there, yet. The atmosphere/stratosphere (or lack there of) is too weak to keep dangerous sunrays out, unlike on Earth. And the weather is rather extreme, compared to Earth's. Though, Mars has roughly the same gravity as Earth, so that's good. But the hard thing to fix, to make the planet suitable for humans, is that there's nothing on Mars that produces oxygen. No plant life, obviously. The whole planet is like a cold baron wasteland with two frozen poles. We'd have to terraform the whole planet (just Google terraforming, if you want to know more). Basically, to make Mars more earth-like. But Elon Musk is planning several Mars mission in the near future. So it's a step in the right direction :)

andrezi _ You asked thereafter if we could live on Mars, which I answered that we cannot. And yes, it is possible to get there, the way to go is Elon Musk. He's a smarty boy and will surely figure something out.

its in earth pounds, although you can calculate the amount of pounds they would be on the moon. it would be close to a few (earth) tons if it was moon pounds
@coreytaylor447
@coreytaylor447 6 жыл бұрын
@naimad weight dosent measure the mass, weight is dependent on the density of mass, not the amount there is. gravity dictates the weight of an object, but mass is the base for it. if I didnt explain it clearly (which I probably didnt) i can go more in depth
@damirock98
@damirock98 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I know the difference between mass and weight I thought he was talking about pounds (mass) and not pounds (force) Another reason why IS is far better than imperial system: less ambiguity
