Mahmoud was literally the “90s Steph” before Steph was even a thing! 🤯🔥 If he had the same freedom in today’s game, he’d be a top-tier scorer easily, dropping 50+ multiple times a season! 💯 Imagine him with modern spacing and no hand-checking-he’d be even MORE unstoppable than he already was! 🙌 And let’s not forget, Stockton, one of the best defenders ever, couldn’t stop him. If that doesn’t tell you how ahead of his time he was, idk what does. 🏀💥 #90sBasketball #MahmoudAbdulRauf #StephBeforeSteph

It's interesting how the anti-zone rules does not allow the defense to move and set traps correctly, but at the same time they were more physical, the off-ball offense couldn't run their "routes" with such freedom. The NBA only needs to allow physicality and the game would improve so much, zones + physical defense, that way only the very best could score over 25 points per game (in other words, the Trae Youngs would be overwhelmed)

@@KHJ4D Naah, the extra on ball pressure would disrupt his game for sure, especially if hand checking was allowed. Trae is extremely weak and his speed is not that great, he would struggle a lot. @@RRRRRRRRR33 the handchecking is still around. U a fool if u thing its not. The game now is much faster and have more quality individually and collectivelly. If u put any star of any team with their current skill set, they would dominate, in contrary if u put any player in 90 beside MJ shaq or Hakeem, with their skill set at their time and play in this era, they would be average. It’s really a terrible comparison. Style wise, there are similarities. Consistency, efficiency, ability to dominate, all are in a landslide in favor of Steph. One thing people don’t know about Rauf is he was not a three-point shooter at all. He was a mid range shooter and an inconsistent one. This is why his three-point percentage was terrible until the NBA shamefully move the line in for three seasons to compensate for the lack of shooting skill in the league. Cracks me up when people make the comparison between these two. We’re talking about a guy who at worst is a top 12 player all time, against the guy who isn’t even top 200. There’s also a false narrative that the NBA blackballing him ruined his career. While the NBA did blackball him, and it was total BS, his game had already fallen off a cliff by the time he was exiled from the NBA. Rauf was a fun player to watch, but he was horribly inconsistent, and never able to consistently be great at the NBA level. You could argue he only had one solid year. He ain’t Steph, he ain’t even close.

You don't seem to understand that one well laid out cross is better than some person spamming crossovers hoping they work. Mahmoud's shifts in speed and the off beat movement are what is disrupting the defenders rhythm. (I don't refer to Steph as the guy who spams crosses. Despite how many combos he throws out all of them are super effective moves isolated as well that's why he is one of the best ball handlers of all time)

@williamwalsh1533
@williamwalsh1533 Ай бұрын
@knowEgo Must be an age gap between us. In my time, a point guard was someone that could run the offense and set up his teammates for scoring opportunities. Isiah Thomas (Pistons) could score at will but his highest season average was 22.9ppg. Isiah once had a season averaging 13.5 assists a game. Magic could also score when needed. His highest scoring average in a season was 23.8 but he also averaged around 12 assists ppg. Rauf was not pass oriented. He was a scorer and more like Curry then say, Steve Nash. Iverson was the same, a scorer in a little guy's body. In the 1990s there were point guards that could score (Kevin Johnson & Tim Hardaway) but it was their jobs to get their teammates good shot attempts. Isiah, Magic, KJ and Hardaway were point guards that had seasons where they averaged over 20 points & over 10 assists. Then there were other point guards like John Stockton, Mark Price, Mookie Blaylock, Kenny Anderson, Rod Strickland and Mark Jackson. These point guards had seasons where they averaged between 16 to 19 points and 8 to 13 assists (Stockton).

Imagine Abdul-Rauf in today's NBA? He'd be Devin Booker
@williamwalsh1533
@williamwalsh1533 Ай бұрын
I'm 48 and haven't watched a complete NBA game in years and I clearly favor basketball from the 1990s. However, the little that I have seen of Devin Booker, I am sure Booker is a more well-rounded skilled player than Rauf. Booker is taller and more dextrous. Booker is more willing to pass and a better play maker. Rauf was a shooter and could always free himself and create space to shoot because of his dribbling. But Rauf ain't going to the rack and dunking the ball like Booker.

You’re trippin! Booker is a jump shooter who can dunk when given the opportunity…. Rauf could do the same! You must’ve forgotten he was in the dunk contest

@@mizzutigerfan1 Spud Webb was in the dunk contest. Rauf was not going to drive the lane and elevate over someone. I haven't watched Booker much so you probably know way more in regards to his game.

Jordan was good but overrated. He didn't like running through screens to chase shooters like Reggie Miller and Rip Hamilton type players (equivalent of when Steph is off the ball). There's a reason the bulls struggled with really good backcourt shooters like the Pacers. Their 72-10 season had a loss from the Nuggets, thanks to how Mahmoud torched the Bulls. People also forget when Jordan left, the team went 54 wins (whereas with him there the previous year, they won 55). Put respect on shooters that create massive gravity, like Mahmoud and Steph. Golden State 2016 definitely would have given the Bulls trouble in a 7 game series if both teams were healthy. Mahmoud was blackballed out of the league for being Muslim. A shame.

That makes no sense. The spacing and ball movement in today's game would give Rauf ample OPEN shots. You ever watch Rauf in practice? He literally NEVER misses. And he's over 50!

@williamwalsh1533 Yes, everybody makes shots in the gym. If he could do what steph had done. He should have done it in the time he was in the league.

@@conquest_icon-f4w Different era. Also, if you compare Steph in college to Rauf then known as Chris Jackson, their stats are similar. Chris Jackson averaged 29ppg in two seasons before turning pro.
